YES!!! I'd be all over that, especially if you also include a Minmay with her helmet off in her hands (seated in the back of the VT-1)

I was hoping to find some clear vinyl glass sweeps (like the kind they use in glass shower stall installations, but I have yet to find one that fits such a thin glass as our Detolfs) https://www.google.com/search?q=glass+vinyl+sweep&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=IZwYVZ6uBpKayATBs4HwBQ&ved=0CCMQsAQ&biw=1440&bih=668

I WOULD KILL TO GET ON THIS PRODUCTION!!! But it may be a living hell if that actually comes true. I was getting the inside scoop on the live action Akira and seeing the artwork and they've got the absolute worst people working on it - they are not anime fans at all, in fact most of them didn't even want to see the original Japanimation because they wanted to do their own take on it and not be influenced by previous work (WTF?!) In fact, "they" (producers) fired Ruairi Robinson (original team) because his team was trying to respect the original material too much (he's the one that did this: - amazing mech designs, certainly not more of that SoCAL School of Hollywood Ironman mech design)I can see this happening here with Robotech too - these people/producers just don't understand that the designs are integral to the story of Macross. They feel we are a niche audience (existing fan base) and will try to pitch this to as wide of an audience as possible. Sometimes its just so infuriating to see who gets picked for these jobs - it makes no sense whatsoever!

Hey Kicker, love you quote from your wife about the M3... I finally got my e92 M3 this year, but I only got there because I only collect one of everything Your little stack is the cost of my Paint Protection Film this summer!!! Good to see you also have good tastes in cars too. I would love to see your finished display once its re-organized too.

Is that a toy, model or resin? Does it transform?
-
It's just not the dark colour, its that Arcadia has ridiculously shallow and fine panel lines that won't hold any wash at all! It started with some of the V2 1/60 VT-1 and just got worst from there on. The YF-19 panel lines are so inconsistent and fine even across the same panel that you need a Mechanical Pencil to draw on them - the washes just don't work well on the newer Arcadia stuff.

Woohoo!!! Finally got mine. NY charged me 4,700Y, but it only really cost them 3,500Y to ship it via EMS. However they declared a low 2,500Y value and it saved me $60+ in Canadian Customs & Duties charges. I'd rather pay them $12cdn for obtaining this toy for me than $60 to the government for trying to make it hard for me to get this toy! Initial out of the box impressions... Great proportions, I like it better than the YF-19 so far. My left afterburner detail was in the box - so it already fell off the feet before any transformations. Waaay too dark of a blue, will be really problematic trying to apply the 305 modex, the black pilots names and black UN SPACY on the legs (just won't show) Great pilot sculpts - wished they stayed in their seats better. Really loose air brake - deploys everytime I woosh and do a barrel roll! Panel lines are waaaay too shallow - almost none existant... hard to panel line - why bother when its that subtle?! Gun pod attaches really loosely in fighter mode (no matter how much I push the arms together - the slots just a bit too wide) Gun pod aims down too far in the front (would be nice to be parallel to the ground with the gears extended) Blue paint on the LERX really doesn't match any other blue on the plane... Really nice that they tried to replicate the feathered edge between the blue and white No broken neck syndrome of the earlier VF-0. Locks together really well in aircraft mode! I love the subject matter and design. I'm going to do a lot of work to bring the colour nearer and lighter to what's in the anime (clear coat protection of the paint will be a problem with the transformation process) - to even get any black decals I can scrounge up to show up on such a dark plane. It's a good toy (I haven't transformed it yet) but for this price, it should have gotten the colour right and tampo all the markings! (or provided water slides at the very least!). Come on Arcadia, you want to charge these prices, give us a reason more than just profits.

Yep, exactly what I was thinking too...

I had to pay 4,700Y for EMS from NY (way too expensive, but I'd easily pay way more than that to the government if I went the HLJ route) It's still in preparation since Tuesday...

Wow! EMS was 4,700Y from NY. Oh well, another Arcadia release that will require a lot of work when I get it. I still haven't gotten around to my YF-19 yet. I think I'm done with Arcadia after this! Although I haven't yet tried the salt wash method, I don't believe its shooting a salt solution at the model but using the partially melted salt as a soft mask and spraying over that in multiple passes with different colours, each time cleaning the salt residue off and re-applying. I just might have to try this to lighten the dark blue, its too bad - but this might be the one time I don't want too much tampo to have to mask around Any word if there are any waterslide decals included in this on top of the stickers? (I can only wish...)

I think Henry Cavill's acting is intentionally wooden - he talks like all the men in "Mad Men" - I think its something from the era.

I saw it last week and liked it - it was light and fun! Perfect escape for the cold winter. It made me miss a fun Bond/spy film, the Daniel Craig films have all been so dark and serious that it sucks all the fun out of the genre. Has anyone seen this trailer for "The Man from UNCLE" - it looks great! Its all the best parts of the old Bond films from the 60s - the suave Connery years complete with the dry humor I miss. I'm looking forward to this!

Great idea to try, I've thought of that too but you might have to mask out any tampo markings or be prepared to re-make some of them in decals and re-apply over. Also it involves really light/thin coats which would be really easily prone to chipping for a transformational toy. I was thinking of trying to do a light grey filter airbrush over the whole thing that would darken the white and tone down the blue at the same time, maybe we could try this light filter over a salt wash - the key would be getting a durable clear coat to seal it all in.

Wow!!! simply amazing, I'm speechless. Congrats, it must feel so good to have finally complete it. Can't wait to see you populate it and take a bunch of beauty shots.

Every time I see the word "decals" I think someone had finally made decent real waterslide decals for this naked puppy... But I always end up seeing just stickers. Come on guys, they're stickers - not decals. Sorry I'm a bit bitter about how much I paid for this naked thing and not even have the proper markings done up. On the other hand, congrats VF-18S - huge improvement over the naked stock toy! -
Not really... yeah, I've backed large areas with white decal behind, but for those designs that are large enough to cut a white decal to back, I would just mask and paint. Its mostly the tiny lettering that's impossible to cut out - so no, I haven't found any workable solution yet.
-
Finally!!! something decent... lets hope there's some more surface detailing to follow...

I've been printing my own decals for a while now, however the non-printed white is a HUGE issue. You can basically only apply the decals to a white aircraft only. All the colours (especially if your laser printing them) will be translucent and will take on the hue of whatever underlying paint colour your applying them on. Its fine when we have white Valkyries, but when you start to stray and go to other colours, they will "cast" that colour onto your decal designs. If you have a dark paint scheme then forget about printing your own decals. You need the white underneath to make your colours/design show through. The white sheet is of no use because you have to trim around your designs perfectly to not see any white carrier sheet left behind. It's too bad Alps printers went the way of the do-do. Please let me know if anyone finds a solution to this problem!

Waterslide decaling or stickering? Don't get my hopes up for waterslide decals... any news on that front?

Wow, great weathering job!!! ... for armor maybe or maybe it was found in the bottom of the ocean? Really hard to do that though, I'd love to learn how for some of the really dirty Tomcats in the final days.
