I didn't see the video so I don't know. I only apply it to the panel lines and I usually mix the grey with the white to get it much lighter for the general panel lines, then I use the grey for the deeper access panels and the black for the moveable surfaces such as the flaps, ailerons, rudder or vents (and landing gears too). Its nice to vary the colour to add depth to the various panel lines to make the paint job a bit more interesting.

Hi Gatsu, I definitely didn't use Zippo oil and I don't know what white oil is. I used my old trusty method of using low odour varsol (mineral spirits) with oil paints for my wash. I have now since moved on and I am now using clay and water based flory's wash which is even more gentle and totally inert. http://www.florymodels.co.uk/washes/

Loved those sets!!! I just rebuilt my Galaxy Explorer with my daughter a little while ago. I still had everything except I lost that darn antenna (which of course is worth the most nowadays!)

It turned out beautiful!!! I admire your patience. Did you paint or use the decals or stickers?

I know right? I thought for sure they were going to reissue the UCS as a TFA Falcon last Christmas to time it with TFA release... but they didn't. I was planning what I'd need to replace the TFA dish with the ANH one (I was so sure). Now I guess the next window of opportunity would be when Eps iX comes out in 2017... maybe or they might not care about timing it with the release of the movies at all.

Well, I bit the bullet to see what this is all about, just ordered the #05033 UCS Millennium Falcon, I'll let you know if its worth it. From the reviews of other Lepin kits, they say the plastic is better quality than Megablocs and much closer to Lego. I'd still buy a real UCS MF from Lego if they ever reissue it, but I'm sure it would be over $499 if they ever did. At $250, its worth a shot too see (especially since the real ones are on ebay for $8-9K), and especially now in case the Lego lawsuit stops them from being produced or shipped soon. I can live with the spelling mistake since all the AliExpress offerings don't even include the original boxes, I wonder how big the boxes are?
-
Wow! Thanks, I never knew. The UCS Millennium Falcon is going for between $8-9K - just crazy. For $250cdn, I think it might be worth the risk, but I wonder why all the AliExpress listings show that it will be shipped without boxes - hmm I wonder if they'd get stopped at the border or something if they had the original Lepin box?! Weird, can't seem to find any reviews of this UCS knock off specifically, any one here with experiences?

Hmm, not bad, I would prefer to always error on the side of sleekness if you were to go wrong (which is what they've seem to have done here). However I think the nose is a little too needle-like - a little more VF-1 with that droop would be nice, the canopy seems a bit far back too close to the canards. Come on Hasegawa; "...your my only hope..."

Yep, Tamiya stuff for all my masking needs. For really fine lines, I always cut my own edge with an exacto knife instead of using the tape edge - I find that one side of the tape to have a cleaner edge than the other side for some reason - but I just cut my own edge when I need a really really sharp line and not have to worry about finding the right side of the tape edge. (don't know if that makes any sense )

Yep, nothing like Tamiya masking tape - worth every penny! That's what I use. Also a few tips, make sure your airbrush mixture isn't too wet/thin, spray in light overlapping pattern (more light coats rather than a single heavy wet one). Also try to always spray from the tape side towards the plastic side, never spray "into" towards the tape edge. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35121&p=1154652

The second option kind of, unfortunately I missed the initial release and didn't know it was a limited edition thing. Now that I missed it, I find it hard to pay 2X MSRP on ebay for it. I still don't have anything for my VT-1 Super though.
-
I'd always wanted 1/72 Minmays - one for the VT-1 with her helmet off leaning around the back seat yelling at Hikaru - one for the backseat of the VF-1D (with a Hikaru in his original orange flightsuit) from the TV series.

Nice! I never knew there was an UCS Blockade Runner till now. I have the 10198 Blockade Runner and it is one of the better kits out there (although not UCS), really fun to build with my daughter and looks great too.

Thanks Gatsu for all your kudos! Alclad has since changed their Steel colour - when I did this model, it was their old steel which is much lighter and smoother. I have since gone through about 4 bottles of their new "steel" hoping that I just got a bad batch, but the newer steel is darker and more "speckly" than the old steel. Unfortunately, its just not as good. Jet exhaust is really dark, not black, but I just use it to rim the edges of the thrusters lightly, so the metallic underneath shows through and it creates a great "burnt" look. I don't think its meant to be used by itself, its quite dark as you have said. My gun metal is also quite dark, but I don't see the light violet colour you mentioned - it could be a bad batch. All the Alclads go on really thin, so surface prep is everything with metallics. On the VF-25, I also overlaid the Steel with Tamiya Yellow Clear to give it a bronzy brown tint because he's the only VF-25 that has "brown" shoes. I have a bunch of the Alcalds ranging from Polished Aluminum, Stainless Steel (bluish), DurAluminum, Dark Aluminum, Magnesium, Steel, Jet Exhaust and Gun Metal, sometimes I mix and match them to get the shade I want - sometimes I clear coat them to get a tint or metallic colour I want such as the purple gun pod. Hope that helps, just practice and practice, that's what I did and you'll get the hang of it. I just looked this site up: http://alclad2.com/how-to/ Lots of really good tips I wished I knew before I tried and learned my way around Alclad by trial and error (before the internet days!) -
That UCS Falcon is my holy grail kit - I can't believe I thought it was too expensive when it came out - one of my worst regrets! Have the UCS X-Wing (original) - people at work bought it for me and started my collection of UCS kits, the Y-Wing is amazing! Got the B-Wing, although it isn't officially a UCS kit, it is really detailed like one - got it on sale on May the 4th from Lego.com for 50% off (back in the days when May 4th sales were real!)

Hey, you don't happen to have the UCS Millennium Falcon or Tydirium Shuttle do you?
-
I hope this is a little more affordable than that Future one was... (not holding my breath, it is Arcadia, do it will be pricey)

Woohoo!!! Just got payment request too. Now I'd be able to get both this and the Masterfile book shipped at the same time.
