Can someone please just walk into Bandai HQ, and slap the entire DX design team upside the head with some sort of documentation on actual aircraft? They're doing the "TAMPO EVERYTHING" deal again, and splattering useless aircraft warning markings where they don't belong.
Don't get me wrong, I love the TAMPO - just where its appropriate (go see Hasegawa). I totally agree with you Chronocidal, its important for the markings to make sense. However apparently they consulted with Tenjin on the additional "new non-canon" markings - so he's the person to slap!
I just hope the canopy isn't frosted - I see some promo pictures with frosted canopy and the video clear without the blue tint. Too bad about the silver Bandai landing gears though - the white gears really do make it so much more realistic. Wished there were more molded details like the original 2015 promo shot that had more panels with rivet details which at this larger scale would look great.
The price is right though. :P Let's just hope we can get our hands on one.

Less than a week away PO and still no release on the official price?

Amazing set I just had to order right away!!! How would one make it closer with Lego?!? I'd love to see someone try or examples. Lego and 007 together is a wish come true for me (plus that $85 off in VIP points from the MF didn't hurt either!)
I'm just glad they didn't come up with new pieces just to make certain things work out, I hate large one piece specialized fenders for the sake of being accurate, its how you use the existing system to solve the problems that fascinates me.

If it's truly 1:48 --- I'm gonna go 1st here and throw out a guess of $250-$275 MSRP (before shipping) USD price tag on this....going by the VF-31 and Drakken pricing. Anybody wanna guess? -- If it's less I'll be pleasantly surprised!
I hope it would be that cheap and not enter the stratospheric prices of Arcadia (they've priced themselves out of my collection)

Oh man!!! I wonder how much?

Thanks!
Some of them are, yeah. I like how thin they are, but some parts are molded too shallow.
Ah, thanks! The issue isn't getting into the lines though, it's that some of the lines are so shallow as to be almost non-existent, so getting a wash in there is impossible and even drawing by hand is super hard.
Anyway, one more for the road! Roy's rides, or Meet the Fockers.
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! Did you use the Hasegawa 1/72 decals, or did you scan and printed your own in the right scale? I never got a VF-0S and would love to decal one up like that too, but I can't justify the crazy prices right now for a Premium Finish version.
Congrats!

Thanks so much for the HLJ link! Even though its a bit more initially, they usually have cheaper shipping.
Got it, going back to sleep now...

Mine doesn't have that issue either, but there are so many joints to massage - the more articulation you have, the greater the chances that something might be a tiny bit mis-aligned.
-
LOOKS FANTASTIC!!! (Those Hasegawa decals totally paid off!)

I totally get you RTKF and agree! The VF-4 is probably one of my favourite designs and I was so excited when I first heard of this 1/72 possibility. But having seen it, it just seems "off" on so many little things that the overall impression isn't very favourable in my personal opinion. I'm still going to hold my breath and wait for a Hasegawa rendition (in my fantasy). Kudos for those of you here that are making this work!

Hey Derex,
Sanding is the worst part of modeling!!! So is this stuff water soluble when wet and once its dried, it becomes impervious to water?

The video does look tempting, looks better from all the views than the box shot. I wasn't originally interested until I saw this video. It's hard for me, since I have the original UCS and the extra length in the older UCS engines didn't bother me so much, but I would have to take it down to display the new one as I have no space. I do like the smoother underside of the front head piece. Argh... my wallet doesn't thank you technoblue!

YUUUUP! Or an SSD in scale with their little SD
Chris
EDIT: For those that don’t bother looking back at recent previous page posts Bandai OFFICIALLY announced the 1/72 B-Wing coming in August.
YESSS!!! I never thought of that. THAT would be the reason to buy those tiny models. Get Bandai on that right away Chris!

Great! Now where's that big Star Destroyer they teased us with so long ago? Enough with these tiny micro-machine kits, I don't need another bbroken golf ball, give me a decent sized SD!!!

Ah thanks Lolicon, that's why... I'm usually pretty light on my weather (hate to over do it) so I get it just right or a bit under then clear coat it and it disappears - argh. I'll try to over do it next time and see if that helps. I end up dry-brushing it with white paint now to get it to show, but it doesn't offer the fine control and shading the Tamiya powders offers.

Oh yeah, definitely. Don't want any work smudging off.
It's also not that glossy in person. It's the bright lights. I need a better diffuser.
I found that when I clear coated, the Tamiya white powder disappeared - let me know if you find the same thing?

Looks great Lolicon! Where did you get the decals for the fast packs? Are they Hasegawa 1/72 scale ones?

Received: wm cheng,
Not Yet: no3Ljm,Funny, I have noticed that while the N-Y prices are a few thousand yens cheaper generally, the shipping is a few thousand yens more expensive. I like N-Y since they generally under-declare their shipments and it gets through without Customs & Duties in Canada most of the time - so that's a good savings of $50-$60 for me generally. I just got the GX-77 Gypsy Danger from N-Y, while they were Y3,000 cheaper than HLJ, their EMS shipping was Y6,600 when HLJ EMS was Y4,500. When I actually received my package, it said Y4,500 on the shipping bill. Is there a case to ask them for the shipping difference? I can see over estimating $5-$10, but over $20 seems like just profit taking.

Woohoo!! Great news, I've been meaning to get my little girl to watch this, but she can't read the subtitles fast enough and gets frustrated. I would like to have a chance to admire the artwork on screen more myself!

Some great news... I got mine from N-Y in Canada.
I'd pre-ordered from N-Y Oct 6th (9am EST) and it took 2wks via EMS (unusually long delivery via EMS) but I got it and its beautiful. I initially submitted a polite question a week after Mar 24 release date and got a canned response. But in the end I did get it, so all I can say is try to have patience - they might still deliver. I hope all of you get yours.
I can't wait to lightly weather and panel line this baby! (after I stop zooming around the house!)

Nope, I'm only Rank 1 and it was shipped out Apr 02, but still stuck in slow Canadian mail system, left Japan Apr 03 and arrived in Canada Apr 06 and its been just sitting there - argh!

Wow wmcheng, that truly a premium masterpiece! Would you be airbrushing some burnt umber on the thrusters?
Close, its a mixture of Alclad Steel with Alclad Jet Exhaust.
2 hours ago, sumyumgoy said:Looks amazing! Did you just use a regular pencil for the panel lining?
I did some Flory clay panel washes of varying greys to black and used a mechanical pencil to draw in the really light panel lines that were too shallow to hold the wash. I then smudged the panels like a post shading with a pencil shader/smudge stick with some ground graphite (leftovers from the mechanical pencil sharpener). Its easier to control than the airbrush. There's some light white dry brushing on the darker fast packs but it was too subtle to pick up on the camera, it looked better in person.
Thanks for all the kudos! Spent way too long cleaning up my workbench to just get to work - argh.
-
Thanks KB. I wish I could get to it more, but having less and less free time nowadays. Haven't done much lately other than just panel line the Macross Delta toys - they're pretty good with just a light panel wash. It's the naked Arcadia toys that needs the work and decals.

Yeah, its tough, but I still really love my 1/48s and they do take up so much room. I never sell mine as I weather them a bit. Well, when I die I might have my family sell my collection :P
Gotta think of others here too
