I think he could be using "Mecha" in place of "everything else" but Moe Driven Character stuff doesn't sell. You could compare it to US Television. I create a new hit show about Hot Sexy Doctors who talk to Ghosts at crime scenes. Every episode ends with singing contest. The shows a hit! Next season there are a bunch of copy cat shows and they are a hit too. Eventually you can't get on the air without having sexy doctors, talking ghost or a talent contest in your show.

Macross Frontier, Macross TV & Macross 7 are all guilty of using recycled Mecha footage.

Ranka's Moe factor, slurmty Shery Stripper, Klan Klan lol and She-male Alpo. These characters and more are all fan service nods to fetishes. Macross F isn't an adult only series but they pandered to all the vices. They knew what they were doing. Itano comments Is likely very true. If you want your anime to be marketable you do above.

Sure there is a good reason for Sheryl to be dressed like a stripper of the time. It isn't about fan service. It just part of the story. I think that's what some actresses say about nude scenes that they do in movies. It has nothing to do with marketing the movie.

Funny isn't it? Almost like looking at night and day. Tends (but not all the time) to be that way with the animated episodes as well. Not to say Macross TV didn't have it's moe, girlie, fan service, etc moments but if you put them on a chart from 1-10. They would be a 2-3 and Macross Frontier would Rank 9-10. Macross Frontier is kinda like Macross 7. Somewhere in there is story. You just got suffer through it and ignore either Basara or that fetish fan service. I didn't get Alpo's appeal either. Seems total self absorb. He's got two girls (and Michael in fan manga) interested in him but he barely notices it. If he didn't want them he could be a friend and pass them on to Luca. In the end he saves the day but says "Screw everyone I'm gonna fly under a real sky!" He bitches about how everyone think he's a girl but that doesn't stop him wearing his hair long with a ribbon in it like a girl. What do real pretty boys do when they want to look more manly? They cut their hair short and grow a sad looking mustache. If Alpo did that he wouldn't look pretty anymore. Which I guess was the only thing going for him.

Speaking of Minmay. Her Moe period was pretty short. By the time she's Miss Macross she is no longer treated as the sweet young girl but a celebrity. In DYRL she's actual 2 years older. Milia was 15 is she not? Sheryl is 17. Those characters would be closer to jail bait. Their physiques are more adult like and tend to dressed like adults ( or Sheryl 's case a stripper). Then there are characters like Ranka, Klan Klan & Mylene that are designed to look their age. You'll see them in cute outfits that make them seem even younger. Sure Minmay had their eye candy moments but you can count them on your hands. You'll need to go ten extra arms to count the moments in Frontier. Frontier just increased the scale. Now if you have it take a look at Macross Ace. I have Volume #2 with me. It contains several stories. We have Mikimoto's Macross the First. In it we see Minmay is various states of getting dressed and Hikaru's reaction. Yes that is fan service. Then there are other stories. One has Alto in a dress and Michael making moves on him. In another story every one is taking a hot bath. When they are dressed it is close up boobs or butt. This is pretty good illustration of the difference & amount of fan service between the two. Also difference in the type of stories. Don't forget that Sheryl figure based on the image of her. You know the one I'm talking about "Rise up!" We saw Minmay's breasts but she never was about to mount a gold bullet shaped dildo. I'm sure eventually there will be one of Ranka holding a large carrot with two hands, pretending it is a microphone. Ranka of course will be dressed like little bow peep.

In a sense she very much is but the Original Macross didn't seem like it was "The Minmay Show". Cutesy characters is nothing new. There is always at least one of them. Now there is plenty more moe there is more moe focus on them. Never got the sense that a large part of fans were into Macross too delight in the Moe factor of Mao, Minmay, Mylene, Elma, Flower Girl & Yang.

Talk about being sissies. One of the legends of Macross bad mouths Frontier and you guys get your panties in a bind. Doe his opinion matter to you guys that much? What is the appeal of that? From my understanding Moe is something with cute characters you want to adore and protect. Seems like Macross Frontier got that. Saw a lot of it in that Macross Ace magazine. Since when did we go from loving the action & drama of Macross TV & Macross Plus to loving how cute and adorable Klan Klan, & Ranka is. You guys call yourselves men? Not totally hating Moe. I'm sure there is a place for Adorable Character Anime that's not Macross. These adorable characters aren't too bad but I'm confused by how they want us to adore them. They tend to be under dressed. Do they want us to say "Oh how cute!" or "I would love to make her the mother of children that I keep locked up in my backyard."

It kinda sucks. I should have a Roy's VF-1S. Didn't grab the first one because of news about the shoulder. I recently bought Strike Fast Packs for the day when they would reissue Roy. I don't need 2 sets of Strike Fast Packs.
