Science and Technology MEGA THREAD
Roy Focker replied to Max Jenius's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It was the company owner. Went for Segway walk right off a cliff. -
Much of social media is one big jumble. You can't return to a conversation because it gets buried under a ton of other stuff or doesn't get seen at all because the algorithm isn't sharing it. Many people just post to please the algorithm by sharing to get likes or incite anger. That what Enshittification is about. In the beginning social media is very cool. It is more convenient and has a bunch of features. Once they get everyone onboard, they turn the place to shit on purpose.

I'm aware of how tacky it looks for a Moderator to make a "look how cool our place is" post. I still have to make a post about it. With the rise of social media, we saw the decline of many traditional methods of online fan gatherings. Like forums. While useful most forums are very subject specific. Many fans have multiple interests. Those who wanted to be well informed would have to visit multiple forums a day. Social media made being a fan of multiple interests more convenient. Just visit Facebook, join a bunch of Groups and read all the news about your hobby fed directly to your timeline. Then came the enshittification, AI Slop, scammers and the meme spammers. Way too much clutter. You can't keep track of things. I now find myself starting to lurk old forums of the past. Wondering if I can remember my old login information. Social media has been helpful finding locals who share the same interests but for day-to-day online interactions to learn something new and share opinions I'm seeing forums as the superior method. Anyone else feeling nostalgic for the days of online fan communities before the age of social media?

Post Skywalker Saga Star Wars Movies
Roy Focker replied to jvmacross's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I agree with the logic that this was a dead character and a post death movie of them being alive could break the universe, but they had a good actor an award-winning director wanting to make a movie - you do what it takes to make that work.- 459 replies

I don't understand what I just watched. Is this for the current audience or new audience or older audience? I can't describe the premise or tone. You could take that trailer and reedit to make trailers for at least two different shows.

General 1/18 Scale Figure and Toy Thread
Roy Focker replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That Tron set is 1:18 scale and $260? When I saw pictures of it earlier, I assumed it was 1:12 scale. $260 for that scale made sense. Not at 1:18. -

Is the Night-Viper a kit bash? For such a cool design this one isn't that impressive.- 1180 replies

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - May 22, 2026

But is it fine enough to take the entire family to the theater pay full price for tickets and popcorn on the opening weekend when you can just wait for it on Disney Plus?- 102 replies

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - May 22, 2026
Roy Focker replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It is my opinion that Lucas and others are wrong about Star Wars being for kids. You can categorize movies for 3 audiences: kid friendly, family friendly and grownup friendly. Of the 3 only family friendly has something that will appeal to all audiences. With the other two categorizes only the named audience will enjoy their experience. Traditionally Star Wars has been family friendly. Later sequels and prequels introduced extended sequences that were specifically kid friendly. I guess you could call this Fan Service for Children. We usually see it in the form of cute and funny creatures and droids getting into cartoonish situations. This trailer is showing a lot of that.- 102 replies

Boba's character assassination was result of I think them not wanting lead characters to be bad. Children are watching. We can't have him a crime lord doing criminal activity.- 102 replies

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - May 22, 2026
Roy Focker replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's what I'm saying. They're really pushing towards the more insipid parts of season 3. First 2 seasons were more for the entire family. Disney might be spending more money on CGI characters and special effects but I'm in this trailer I'm not seeing any cinematic cinematography. Whole trailer is just giving me vibes of a made for TV movie.- 102 replies

Sorry to say but that doesn't look very good. This is supposed to be a movie for the big screen. Why does all the production value look like it straight from Disney Plus? Movies are meant to be cinematic in appearance. This isn't that. Half the trailer is baby Yoda doing cute things. This tells me the target audience for this movie is really young. Why spend money at the theater for the whole family on what looks like a normal episode of the show?- 102 replies

Ditto. Cavil is bad casting physically wise. Connor was the underdog. Look at Cavil he looks like he could take care of himself.
