Best (new) Anime Series You´ve seen lately
chrono replied to Aegis!'s topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've not been following to much of anything for several months now. Basically because most of the newer stuff is just so generic in story and art style. The intial Bleach, the first 50 chapters of it, story arc will be(ie IS) pretty sweet and it well balanced story and art-wise with solid and fairly goo music. The rest is straight DragonBall Z shiznit though. Wasn't too impressed with Mai-Hime because it's abit too cliche driven. The art style is OK but it's a little lifeless sometimes. GitS:SAC is so poor in quality that it's gagging and insulting to it's creator and his audience. EMMA isn't too bad, but you've got to have a slight maid fetish to enjoy it. (is gulity) Speaking of maids the He Is My Master title is rock solid and pretty funny for the most part. Call it a low brow comedy, but it's at less enjoyable for what it is. Tsukuyomi Moon Phase is another fun little title, gotta love the style and who ever thought up the mini-vapire neko SHOULD be praised! Tengo (ala TEN TEN) is very good and I totally can't wait for the second season. Even though it's story is slightly different from the manga it still grabs you somewhat because of it's drama. -
Out of curiosity, what were these things? FV For, for me, Getter Robo(old manga & newer Armegeddon anime) has a clear cut and VERY violent militaristic style to it. Their was little touchie feelie to it. It was also drawn in a specific stlye that worked out well for it and it really helped to make it attractive. That includes the military musical themes that the anime had. They just seemed to use the 3 pilot theme more interestingly and more grittly. EVA, had the various teenaged angst, mysterious background plots, and violence that came out within the first episode. Frankly the style just doesn't grab me. The character designs are VERY run of the mill. The music is boring and the action..... well what action? Compared with anime that's now 10 years old it's just pathetic and comparing it to the action in the last Macross anime.... well that's just insulting. Once you understand that it's a story(yet again) about superkids, combiner robots, and mysterious superbeings. It's becomes old hat and something to avoid, unless your a fan. But theirs no way in hell I'll pay 30 bucks for 3-4 episodes of it!!! I'm not saying that some people wouldn't enjoy it, but I've got other things I can spend better time on.

Cyclops has always been pretty much a wimp, especially when he's compared with Wolverine. They didn't call him 'slim' for nothing. Gotta agree though that without Singer involved it's gonna feel like Terminator 3.
-
OMG! That's so tripp'n weird. I kinda like the insanity, but it does seem just A LITTLE LAME.
-
X-men less cartoony and darker? Oh that's funny. only way your gonna do that is if you do the Days of Future Past story. That's Terminator level gritty. X2 was pretty damned gritty for X-Men, and it was styled because it was so overthetop and little more then an action flick that NEEDED style not to be any lamer then it already was. Using the Juggernaut as the main villian is lacking and you are gonna have to have another villian behind the scenes manipulating him.... unless you destroy the character by giving him brains. Though using Juggie for X3 would work because it could help frame up the background for the Sentinels/Nimrods arrvial.

After watching episode 1, I've gotten the total impression that this is merely a blend between Getter Robo and EVA, but without the things that made them both individually interesting. Are their no more giant robot series that DON'T require superpowered kids anymore??? Not even worth stealing or even viewing a friends copy. Ranks equal the level of Pokemon for the most part.

Well I saw it today. ..... This is a pretty FLAT movie overall. Lottas imagery but little in the way of story or the humor I'd thought I'd be getting. The humor that was in it was dated, clearly so. Didn't like the whole love triangle part, mainly because it didn't really add much of anything. Well except to turn her character into a secondary character. I'm REALLY beginning to think that ANY book(s) not given 22-26 episodes worth of treatment will NEVER turn out great. It's beginning to worry me because someone might get their talentless hands on Issac Asimov's Foundation series and totally rape my childhood.
-
Nope. According to the returns it's tanking pretty badly. It might not even break even. 70 million maybe a reachable mark(worldwide). And just so you know alot of people who own cellphones talk about the movie to their friends before they even leave the theather. Toss in the Internet and it doesn't even take 4 hours to 'spread the news' as it were. This movie is like any other movie. People go in with preconceived ideas, ie their own minds eye viewpoint, and are widely let down.
-
If it doesn't alot of Adams dry twisted humor I'll have to pass. The mini-series was good, but damn it after seeing the incredible trailer that makes hugh amounts of fun of itself nothing less will be toleratable. Oh and it's NOT surprising at all that they gave it a happy ending, it WAS american made and as we ALL know american movies DON'T sell well if they don't.

What has Peter Jackson done with his life?
chrono replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Gotta love these.... "I HATE HIM BECAUSE HE'S SUCCESSFUL!" .... types of threads. King Kong's only being remade because who would be the person in that studio to tell Peter Jackson 'No' after making them several hundred million dollars? Let's hope that he stays remaking era re-makes and avoids making a 're-imagned' comic book movie!!! -
450 WOW! Though I can understand that for being in South Africa. I'd have to get confirmed compensation by the harddrive company before I sent that much. Unless I was running a business then it'd be a nessesity.

Huhn. I aways heard that that was the Vick Viper.

Datterboy, The best way to figure out a shape and to work out it's construction is to simply draw the shape. Not just once but several times from different views. After a little while the way you need to build it in 3D becomes much clearer. Best way to work on any BP is to get the intial bodyshape where it's VERY closer and then keep several separate saves as you build from the body outward. This way you can easly backtrack to an old mistake or carry something forward that was ruined somehow earlier. I'll get around to making a Regult soon enough.
-
Oh hell yeah! Man I SOOOOOOOO loved that movie! I nominate: Freddy He rates right up there with Pinhead, Jason(early), and Micheal Myers. But for me I'm split between 2: Crais and Scorpius.
-
The Major, You've got mail!
-
Datterboy, Worst thing about the Regult is the main body and it's area under the upper cannon. Also because of that Nanashi reference it's somwhat off.
-
Indeed a solid start. But you really need to start rounding your corners if you want added visual depth and accuracy.

I saw the second episode, but frankly found it very dry, not plodding along dry but boring dry. Some of the combat was mildly interesting in a technical sense and the characters nor the story grabbed my attention. Only thing actually interesting was the death of the workers. But hell you see enough Trek that you know red shirts are expendable. Heck I even find the name flat and underwhelming.

Actually I've emailed(twice) them using the forums email thingie. Nada response. I'll keep an eye on my email(spam catcher) and deal with it by Friday. *shrugs*

You know I'd like to but this forum has a protection scheme against directly contacting members.

It's abit early to give C&C and the shot angle isn't the best. Could you supply us with a straight on side view?
-
Thanks for the reply. Glad I didn't step on anyones toes. Anyways the leg and toes bits make sense. Now I do understand that that area of the body's shell is kinda complex with it wrapping over the top and the sides. And the picture isn't the best to compare by, that's why I asked. I'm interested mainly because I plan to eventually build my own Regult An image to illustrate what I was saying about the 'ridge' area.
-
Yep, gotta admire skill like this. Good stuff!!! I do find somethings kinda odd. Like the transistion between the side thrusters and the body and the somewhat 'sharp' ridge that seems to develop because of it. Always thought it was a smoother tranny. The 'toe' looks alittle undersized in a thicknesses type of way and not so much of a it's small type of way. I always thought that the front of the lower leg had a small egg-like taper(front-back) to it and not so much of a normal cylindrical-ness. Now I'm NOT trying to pop anyone bubble or start any agruements of these. I just thought I'd bring them up now since it's still VERY early in the build.
-
I've got to admit that is pretty durn cool look'n! Looks more like a movie prop that experimental tech.

So who do I send my model too? It's been well over a month since I asked.
