That's very true about the Ringworld and Culture universes, Mr March. The same could be said for Jack McDevitt's, William H. Keith's, James Alan Gardner , and Stephen Baxter's universes. David Brin's Uplift universe has Epic like quality's as does Ben Bova's Grand Tour universe, but are just slightly lacking in some creative depth.

The Official Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread
chrono replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Yeah you never know just how literal the company people will be with terms like 'porn' or 'suggestive acts'. But speaking of GB hentai... I stumbled on some first GB hentai. Pretty well drawn and surprisingly close to the orginal art work of the anime! -
Not seen it, yet. Probably won't either because the people writing and producing it compare it to X-Files. It also doesn't help that they are the same people who rode Trek into the ground and totally couldn't come up with something remotely orginal to save their lives. Anyways we'll see how it pans out.

SF epic-wise for me will aways be Asimov's "Foundation" series(sans the iffy last 3 works) which covers ALOT of his works under one umbrella. Tony Daniel is coming up with some good work, but it's not quite 'epic' yet.

Episode 13 was a pretty good character growth and plot advancement chapter overall. We get to see more of the other characters and more depth from existing ones. Fairly smooth transistions between character groups, but the music overall was poor and in the 2nd half suffers from that damned looped techno beat. I kept expecting it to stop or change but gods it just kept going and going and going..... GACK!!! They really need to work on that. Hollands becoming an even bigger bastard at the end of this episode. Gotta love those "love to hate'm" types! And it was nice to see what the mech's could do in thier 'vehicle' config. Tanks huh! But is it me or was the female commerical annocer(spl) in the beginning the VA for Amano from the first Gunbuster?
-
She looks alot like a P0rN star. Quality is there though! *wonders what Ryuji would be able to due with a copy....*
-
I'm curious about how you got the panel lines on the Angel Bird. Are those pastel wash or just the lights influence on the paint? I could easly see those Angel Birds being a new form of the Blue Angels. Hmmm...... Valks performing as Blue Angels.....
-
Well if your looking for a story why even look at a VIDEO GAME movie? That's all I'm gonna say on that! AC is little more then, what seems to becoming squares/enixs main idea of a marketing ploy, a long advertistment/music video.
-
That is VERY VERY cool! I'd like to see a Apache style weapons system in addition to that large assed screen. *...wonders how hard it would be for a Gunbuster config to be built...*
-
Rodavan, this is looking sweeter and sweeter with every update and without a doubt be one of the most quality Starfury's built to date! It'll be even MORE awsome when you finally get it 'printed' and molds built for the kit! *hint, hint*

Not much to show because I've haven't been motived enough to work on it. That and I had problems getting the rear landing feet cut-out cleanly. Kept on giving me nearly garbage results. Got it worked out and looking pretty damned solid. Also have the missile doors built in and fully movable. Started and stopped working on the side indents for the thrusters because I don't see any easy solutions that don't radially change the area. If anybody has any references of statues/toys that have detailed rear landing gear I'm VERY interested in seeing them!!! Frankly the PM sketchs don't make sense. Also decided upon and have started researching for my next project(the Salan), however since I am totally unable to take any screen captures I have to rely on this forum for help.

Well the Escaflowne series is more industrial 'smooth' tech then organic. In a way it's simply stylised tech. But if your gonna use EVA material then you should also use RahXephon material and possibly Z.O.E. as well. But frankly all of those are well away from the Invid style that your looking at.
-
Damn right it's like Macross porn! Jay, sorry but that's pretty much all of the exterior detail images that Perfect Memory has. Since your into such a large project it may well be worth your time to hunt down a copy for yourself. By the way in that last color image that I posted you can see mecha scattered over the shoulder. It's a neat shot and really gives you an idea of just how blasted large the Macross is.
-
Another good source of 'organic' looking quasi-mecha is Masamune Shirow's work, not the movies but his books. They show a great understanding of biomechanics and that's probably one of the key features of organic looking mecha. Just gotta be careful because if you stay with a ball type of joint they all start to look the same.
-
Never really thought of the Invid as 'organic', until they 'bleed'. They've always come off as more 'smooth' then 'organic'. But then again there is a fine line of distinction between the two, so it's near really easy. Probably the key feature that makes the Invid stand out is the utter lack of the typical panel lines that you see in other mecha. And is the largest difference between them and the Zentraedi mecha.

Silly scale scan. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v648/chrono2005/SDF5.png

Chrono, Are you up for emailing some scans? I have most of the SDF ref materia that's on the web. I went out and bought Design Works to trick out my valk. I know these kind of books are a godsend for canon fanatics. 326180[/snapback] Yeah I see what you mean. Virtually nothing on the english part of the web, including most of my reference sites, have those images. More then abit surprising given just how many scans that have been taken from PM! So yeah I'll dig out my scanner and get them loaded up to the net. I'll post links so everyone can grab them instead. Here's 2 that I got with a google: http://www.tvdvd.fr/tf1video/Robotech/Image/macross-193.jpg http://pwp.netcabo.pt/CoA/Graphics/Macross/macross.jpg The first image is a canon colorized version of one of the references I was referring to. Which leaves only 4 scans for me.

*respect* Really great job so far regardless of the proportions. You've captured quite well the design and the smoothness that you've added works very well, though it may come back to bit you in the end. What is your poly count so far and are you wroking in Cinema or Max? Also just how much detail are you planning to give her because several of us have the Perfect Memory(pages 139-141) book which has some EXCELLENT examples of surface detail. Keep us updated on your progress!!!

Totally dig the movie idea, but animation?? I'm seeing this in the bargin bin at most, old FF move stinker, and then maybe not because of it's material(look mommy it's a cartoon). If they dumped some money and effort into it then maybe this would've been an ass-kicking movie. Gotta agree that having Joe Mad coming on to the UA scene is VERY wrong! The guys turned into a mere concept artist(he's lost his old style) and after that CRAP batman cartoon he's not someone who should be drawing the book. Lee, Silvestri, Perez, Thibert, Choi, maybe Joe Q., Turner, or John R Jr(i could stomach him) yeah. I'd rather have the artist would did that one (older)Limited Series of the Inhumans though. They'd match up REALLY well.

For the most part it IS a generational agruement. But one based on what the perceiption of maturity is. My parents, who are know in their late 50's and mid 60's, have nearly always felt that once you become an adult ALL of your responsiblities shift towards 'family' completely ignoring any of your wants and needs for the sake of someone else. But they percieve that their really isn't any difference between cartoons and anime, because they both grew up in a period when cartoons were comic based. Which is frankly funny given how socially manipulative the 70's-80's cartoons were with their candy coated 'PC'-isms. My dad othen asks why I don't have anything 'funny' in my collection. I always tell him the truth. "I'm not into comedy." Besides what passes for humor in Japanese culture is not nessasarly funny to most non-Japanese. Anyways I've found THE perfect counter question for when I'm asked this question. "What are the differences between the fantasy of animation and the lies about reality told by regular film?"

Definatly NGE with it's plotting and overall story so far. Especially episode 3! Newer, late 90's, Getter Robo with the eyes and it's outrageous action scenes. Steel Angel Kurumi, with Nono equalling Kurumi in many ways. Episode 2's White robot reminds me of a mix between RahXephon and Z.O.E. Without the silly codpiece. Nono's waitress uniform looks like something Anne Millers would have. -
I'd be easy, if I was fully trained in electronics, to add a pair of 'pen' laser to it and maybe a 'real' flame breath weapon. I would add a small Ipod to it and set it up to ID specific people and play certain types of music when it 'saw' them. Or set it up to roam the office and play annoying music when people are standing around in some areas. I'd get one if it had a MechaGozilla conversion for it though!!

Oh does she ever! bsu legato, the manga should be coming out within the next 2 months, looks like they'll be using the orginals series covers style too!, and TOTALLY expect the anime to follow!!!

Will you attempt panelling like Trek or keep the finish monotone? And where are you gonna place the Spacy symbol at?
