OK so its a thing... as far as English and other translations... but when the movie premiered in Japan [in 1995], did the error originate in Japan? If so, Why? I'm on the position that the error wasn't Japanese in nature (but later on) but it's intriguing if it did...

a Couple days ago on FB, UN SPACY did a post about Isamu's call signs in the OVA and Movie of M+. In the OVA, when testing the YF-19, he was called Alpha-One. In the Movie, he was called Eagle-One (at least in the Spanish dub). I can't personally remember any difference (especially when i saw the movie last year with my kid) but was that dual designation an American script error or was that duality also in the original Japanese version? and if that's true, why did the Japanese version do that?

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
TehPW replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
You are implying that this Galaxy (if not this universe) was a dumping ground for missing Protoculture Amazon products? That's a big dip into Pandora's Box (to actually conjecturize the Protoculture day-to-day goings on)... Now if you can come up with a way to sell Toys & models running with that idea, there's your next Macross series (on Netflix)? -
*CLAPS* The irony...

Godzilla Minus One - November 3rd 2023
TehPW replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Does that mean Thunder_thighs with the new Godzilla-alt search term on Rule-34? -
I wonder. Is the reason Mon Mothma was on Yavin because she no longer had a job (with the disestablishment of the Imperial Senate) or had she been on the lamb since around or before Rogue One?
-
So NOBODY even wants to try to change the Zentradi MO (aka Mission Statement: We get out of the anti-Supervision business and get into the Destroy really, really dangerous Protoculture stuff (to protect the galaxy)? Give them a new mission? There is no chance of diplomacy with the Badolzas that all run their fleets?

Yeah, that might be the one lament i have about the several artists i posted links about: Some aspects are specular (and some aspects pedestrian). I'm sturggling to find the one video that includes changes in view angle during the pre-nebula battle (like the Reliant was about 45 degrees above the Ent when it appears on their view screen). Its things like that, that made the trek Otaku in me to scream in glee. The L-374 clip i loved save how the Constellation flees by rotating so mechanically and listless...

There are several very talented CG artists who have to done either fan clips or edits of clips... Quantum Designs AZ (13) Mutara: The Chase - YouTube (13) L-374 - YouTube Delimited Productions (13) #13 "Blind as a Bat" - Mutara Battle Finale (Star Trek Wrath of Khan CG REDUX) - YouTube JTVFX Then you got this oldy... (13) Star Trek Continues E08 "Still Treads the Shadow" - YouTube Not there are some flaws (some so so tiny to be effectly non-existent) and there is one clip i cannot remember who did but was so excellent with view management... all all these gets Chocholate Chip Cookies...

and this *was* a IRL circumstance (how the super parts would not fit on a VT/E frame)? Because wouldn't it (IG) be easier ON the airframe to just change it (either enlarge or lengthen the front & back sections)?

Seto, Lt. Meero isn't dumb: She actually said that the ISB countermeasures will cause more people to opposite, to that effect.
-
One complaint: So many No Steps across the top. Are all those body plates so flimsy, they cannot support someone walking across the airframe?
-
You forget: How many Grand Cannons on earth (and the moon) was being built/excavated at the time of Eps 27? Had the UNS had the time, maybe their plan (Defense of the Orbital region by Offense 360 beams) Might have worked...

can i share a couple? after watching that very old episode, I don't think 1st gen VFs are even remotely as challenging as a bred-to-fight Zent soldier in a "fair fight" (the weakness being the pilot, not the machine)

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
TehPW replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
Seto, you mentioned in the Battletech Clanners thread that there are no true black hats in Macross. Is this group in AL!!!!!! used as a Macross Grey hat, like all other protagonists in the Macross series? I also find it hilariously ironic: Heimdall is a political group (from the Lyran Commonwealth faction of Battletech) that exists to serve as a check to any excesses of Loki, the Lyran Commonwealths official secret police Heimdall (organization) - BattleTechWiki (sarna.net) Is there a concise review of this movie, front to back? Google... actually is useless on this subject. -
That's actually a common theme in Battletech (or any fictional setting) but you are kinda wrong. The Zentradi, in general, are a reoccurring threat (often only mentioned in passing or implied) as well as the Anti-UN (later known as General Galaxy). What Macross lacks, compared to, say, Star Wars, is it's Palpatine and Darth Vader; Micronauts's Baron Karza; Stefan Amaris or The Word of Blake faction from Battletech. It's never gone particularly political, mostly because it was a japanese IP meant to sell toys and model kits. Yes, SW & BT/MW sell figurines/minuatures too but both settings have far more political polish than Macross ever had... Now i dont know if that's good or bad...
-
Wait? Whut? The Clans are supposed to be all Black Hat wearing A**holes (save Clan Wolf, who wear very fashionable GREY hats, per Stackpole Fiat as i understand). You want to even try to interduce Battletech story concepts into the Macross extended universe? *cracks knuckles* I'll just let TEX, from the Black Pants Legion explain the Inner Sphere (and everything else). WARNING: pROFAnity is used, liberally. (185) BattleTech 101: The Great Houses of the Inner Sphere - YouTube (185) Battletech/Mechwarrior Lore : The Amaris Civil War / Collapse of Star League - Part 1 - YouTube (185) Battletech/Mechwarrior Lore : The Amaris Civil War / Collapse of Star League - Part 2 - YouTube Seta is extremely accurate (and i'm shocked that he's familiar with the setting). The only way a UNS/NUNS society could develop a direction tangent equal to what The Clans requires a story macguffin: a misfold into the past. Even then, you need at lot of things to happen... Actually that idea would be funny: A society based on Destroids?

He wants to be the next Capt Neeter (or something Imperial Officer). That's why his ambition is so wet, it drips. That's why he's such an asshat. Now that Box that Seto bashes as unimportant will be important because what have we NOT seen yet in 3 episodes so far? actual IMPs. Kassa is so unimportant to the Empire (that means Safe, as far as the Empire is concerned) that they subcontract their security requirements to rent-a-cops. That box (the Macguffin for this story) is what gets actual IMP interest (that is, why the Vamp Imp chick from the promos shows up presumably in Esp 4 or later).

Okay, if we had Variable Fighters in real life....
TehPW replied to cheemingwan1234's topic in Movies and TV Series
+1000. One thing never depicted was minor defects (unless the plot required it, examples being when Kakazaki had hull damage and was ordered to RTB or What's his face from Delta going excessive on his maneuvering propellant in Delta), really nothing storywise in dealing with the background maintenance. The stories also never dove into details like squadrons (names, numbers, airwings, etc), all of that is fandom speculation, save a small number (Pink Peckers, anyone?) There is some use to having a variable fighter on your inventory (how many F-14s can reach lower earth orbit?) but like Seto said, maintaining that asset would be excessive, in terms of parts manufacturing, the materials used in crafting, the training devices*, the GSE involved (which might be specific to the VF only thus a space sink on a carrier)... * because the variable nature of the machine, you would need to either build a fake city in order to be able to train Urban Combat as a curriculum or forcibly remove civilians from a city zone (Rhode Island? EVERYBODY needs to move out of state, NOW).- 14 replies
