Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
TehPW replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
On Zent Fems: What would it be if she was, ahem..... THICC? It's probably Khan Klang I'm thinking off, actually. o>O Pen you have WAAAAAAY too much time. Alpha Centauri = Rigel Kentarus in the battletech setting. Somewhere along the line, the name has been changed twice (I just can't find a reason why, but it's not without precedent: Carver V = Liberty and the Comstar/WoB Hidden 5) But that art you did: Screams!!!! -
Ok.... The Clans... 20? 18? 17? First off, there's the elephant in the room dressed in grey with a name type that says Joe Smith, Hyperspace Navigator... The Clans (or ANY BT faction) could NEVER be a threat to a Colony fleet or a colony world because the manner in which BT vessels travel between systems (Jumpships travel between systems, Dropships travel to/from the Jumpships to the planet in question). It would be far too easy for two Gitmo Stealth Carriers to hold both the Nadir and Zenith Jump Points plus a third holding near common L1 points at the colony home world. In order to make the Clans into a viable Macross Protagonist, you need to change the tech used, the methodology in how they get around. To expand this notion of how easy 3 gitmos can hold a system, you only need 6000 Gitmos to embargo the entire Inner Sphere. The notion of the Clans being better bag guys? that's need some proof checking... Please, MODS: Lock down the thread, because the guy who originally started this thread, hasn't said &^%$ lately about it. (Plus id like to PUBLICALLY Condemn Sketchy for his very provocative explanation on the Politics involved that we discussed in PM. Excellent response from him and quite surprising...)

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!

yeah, the docks... That seems far more plausible (and gives an excellent explanation to the empty space under the vessel: You park an Oberth in there)... -
It's clear as day how the Empire views non-humans just by listening to Dr Mengles talking about the sound clip of Children (alien or otherwise)...

AIMD Additive increase/multiplicative decrease - Wikipedia No, not that (but when i think about some of the places i worked at over my career, maybe some of the other divisions suffered from that) AIRCRAFT INTERMEDIATE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT (AIMD) (tpub.com) anyway, that term (AIMD) had to come from a Sailor talking about work in public (because unless someone got to actually visit the Carrier inport at that time, i find it incredulous that the production staff would coin the phrase ARMD out of their butts and literally just a single letter difference). (Honestly, we'll get back to the Clans soon enough)
-
So when the concept of Galactic Empire was coined (and i mean the literal Japanese words, not the English translation), they thought about Japanese history when they coined the Protoculture? o.O That could be taken one or two ways (and that distinct leans towards a political discussion, a BIG NO-NO in common discussions) PM Sent, Sketchy.
-
Ok, lets do a thought process on those terms. 1) WHEN exactly, date wise in production, was the term coined. 2) How old was the individuals at that time. 3) How often was regional nations discussed in news (and which ones)? Mind you, I'm thinking the same thing as how other concepts creeped into the setting (ARMD = AIMD, VF-84's colors at that time). Galactic Empire was a term that was first coined in Star Wars and maybe they used the word as a literal concept?

Star Trek TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT - pre-Paramount+ TV Series
TehPW replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm currently under the weather so i don't feel the urge to verify this but did the Klingon Death Scream originate on TNG early enough that the possibility of it being depicted in VI could have occurred, had the knowledge pass from the TNG film crew to the VI Film crew? What kind of reaction would 1990 audiences would have to it? (More importantly, what if they intentionally did not do it?) -

Condolences to the NOK. I was still in school so she wasn't a huge impactor from my POV (and because i cannot recall any other entertainment item she was in, she probably was another Hollywood one-hit wonder...)- 10 replies

Seti... Someone else did a speculation:

The violence has to be neutered, based on the intended audience i.e. Its not Kenner Toys bank rolling the show, its Tacos, cars (and maybe feminine hygiene products)... Could you imagine a R-rated original trilogy (id rather have 1~3 mind you)? Actually rated R WOULD BE more like the Auronauts Trilogy... 😃
-
Space: Andor! Of course, it's from the Auronauts... LOL....

Its funny. Is Sebastian's POV of Macross Galaxy possibly based on his own bias (based on his nationality, which might not be Japanese)? Because i do agree with his position that the cyberminds of Galaxy are not even remotely grey with their intent. They were no different from any other fictional (or non-fictional, to which many fictional foes are derived from) human faction with the simple goal of wanting POWER over other humans. That's been the basis of all the major Black Hat factions in Battletech, regardless of who was the Line Lead of the company at the time... Mods, this might be avery good time to put the cabash on this topic. It has clearly derailed and leaking highly toxic chemicals into all our blood streams...

This comment will be harsh (and quite critical of my fellow 'Muricans very specifically) but i need to get this off my chest: It's funny: As a Veteran, whenever I make a call to the VA or respond to a call from the VA, the first thing I hear is questions about and the phone number to call, about Suicide Prevention...

There is an unspoken reason why costs would be prohibitive to field the VF-22 in large numbers: Proprietary technology that requires specialized (Private Contractors) technicians to do certain tasks. In RL examples, modern Farming Equipment (and some big rig trucks) are examples of how people curse the products they own because they themselves aint allowed to fix their gear. The F-35 JSF or the infamous LCS Freedom and Independence-class ships are also examples of that plot twist (I'm so glad I retired before the transition of legacy Hornets to Lightnings occurred as I heard horror stories about F-35 Peculiar Support Equipment). Training is going to specific, not matter what platform the location requires (and unless it's proven that its economical to ship trainees across worlds/systems for training on the end-type of unit they will work on, each world or colony will do their own thing for training (likely following what happens on Earth for example of procedure first before deviations). It's not gonna matter if AD3 Jones on Macross Butthead is trained to put A into B using the C tool and AD3 Maxipad on the planet Beavis is trained to put A into B using his face. Both Jetmechs are gonna do it their training, originally based on Earth but adapted to their unique location. here's a random thought: Fasanomics. Some sick &^%$ should create a list NECs (Navy Enlisted Codes*) for each Valkyrie engine currently or previously in production. Would that require 4 or 5 digits? * NECs are arguable the same as MOS's but ridiculous more specific (closer to the AF than anything) but day to day, you're still AD3 (or Petty Officer) Jones and Maxipad, when being mustered at 7am. Example, I held like 6 or 7 NECs in my career, being trained on *deep breath* Cyrogenics, Shore GPUs, Shore Hydraulics, Sea GPUs, Shore Towing and Pushbacks and Sea Crash Cranes (both CV and LH).

You fail to mention the resort is COMPLETELY EMPTY of people, humans or aliens. Not even IMPs are present... The end music is the most painful: you literally feel Andor's grief and confusion (what to do?)

at 3:51 THIS scene seems to be a scene very similar to the scrolling (from down to up) scene of fighters outside the SDF-1 in Episode 27. But its clear its supposed to be from DYRL but in every version i have viewed i never seen this before. was this made for a re-release?
