  1. Just started a couple shows: Tide-Line Blue - first two episodes were okay, lots of boat/submarine action Popotan - wow, this one is totally dumb, but has nudity/fan-service so I'll probably finish it High School of the Dead - zombies + fan-service = entertainment
  2. Thanks for the recommendation - I have Najica on my shelf and will crack it open. Yeah, this was a great movie. Awesome visuals and terrific fight scenes. I really liked the ending too.
  3. Most recent was: Strike Witches Season One - the closest I've seen of a perpetual panty shot, the pervert in me loved it, but the plot was weak (beware the lolicon) Dance in the Vampire Bund - this was awesome and a nice surprise (beware the lolicon) Halo Legends - it was all right, I didn't play the games much and had no expectations Check out my anime review blog (address is in my sig) for more.
  4. avoiding the current Yamato sale at HLJ

  5. Yeah, that's the point. Tell them a huge amount of macross fans all want the valk you prefer!

  7. Slick, I like where this is all going. Hopefully we'll see some additional variants from M7 and VFX.

    YAMATO

Yamato brought us a new detailed version of the VF-1 with their original 1/60 line in 2001. We didn't have any real options other than the chunkies (vintage, bootlegs, etc.) and a line of nostalgia before then. Bandai put out M7 valks, but they always seemed like kid toys to me while Yamato was aiming at the mature collector. Yamato's M+ valks seem crude by today's standards, but were revolutionary at the time. They took the game to a whole new level with the 1/48 valks and really hit a home run with collectors. The popularity and cash proceeds allowed them to revisit the M+ line and do it right. Now we have a revised 1/60 VF-1 line and they're milking it for all it's worth. Being a for-profit business I can't fault them for trying. We finally get to see quality two-seaters at the very least. The current economic situation and a general over-saturation of VF-1 toys hasn't stoppped them too much (but production for these toys must be planned well in advance). By now all of the canon valks have been produced in 1/60 v2 and now the only options left are very obscure, weathered, and non-canon (all will probably be relatively limited). I would collect everything they offer if money weren't an issue. It's probably a holdover from the drought years when no new Macross toys were produced and a new bootleg was big news. Back then we hoarded anything we could find. Despite all the various iterations and one-offs the excitement still hasn't died down for me. We're all incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to buy the valks we love in one form or another.
  9. Suprisingly good production values. If this movie doesn't turn into another League of Extraordinary Gentlemen I'll be happy. While that movie also had a decent budget it didn't really capture the original feel of the work. I enjoyed it as a decent ride, but didn't take away a lasting impression. Watchmen's epic storyline requires a well-developed script to convey its message and I hope they have one. I'm really looking forward to this movie regardless
  10. Huh, random project. The robot looks a little weak though
  11. I'm shocked at the MPC armor prices. Man, how did I miss that? They were like $20 a piece when they came out for months (maybe years). Now they're sought after collectibles? WTF! Course, if I were Toynami I would reissue them in a heartbeat. They could make some decent $$$ before demand dropped back down. Maybe they could license Yamato's Garland and box it as the RT movie mecha
  12. My order came last week. Pretty quick turnaround. I picked up Southern Cross and the rest of RT Remastered *ducks* Yeah, I know...but for $10/ea. I couldn't pass it up. They came with little Alpha and Macross morphers. Instant ebay fodder, but there's an extra box to hold the series along with the Legacy discs.
  13. I've ordered from these sales several times, at these low prices I couldn't resist! The dvds that came were of two kinds. Some had their UPCs slashed with a cutting tool. I prefer that since it is barely noticeable and doesn't really make that much of a mark. The other is where the UPC has a hole punched through it. The hole is about the size of a pen or pencil tip (not very big), but it does distrupt the packaging more than a slash. They will punch through the UPC on a box set, but not the dvd(s) inside. Everything is still sealed and I justify the disfigurement by saying how often do people look at the bottom of a box set?
  14. Older anime recommendations: Aura Battler Dunbine Megazone 23 New Cutey Honey Blue Gender New stuff: Zaion (short & affordable) Paranoia Agent Master Keaton Mezzo
  15. They've been doing a lot of figures lately and maybe the shift is moving more toward that area. It seems easy enough for them to do reissues since the molds exist and the collector's market has put a premium on the valks. I definitely hope they keep reissuing until they become more affordable!
  16. I think the winner gets the bookends as well. That would explain the high price. Those are going for a couple hundred on evil-bay.
  17. Liefeld should be an inker. There's no doubt his finishes are good, but the underlying structure/backgrounds are non-existent. His name generates a buzz as evidenced by this thread and how people have such a strong reaction to any project where he's involved. The work may be fugly, but if it moves books he'll still be around. Lee was my favorite artist for a long time. His Uncanny X-Men work will always be the most influential. Better artists have come since and he lost quite a bit when his style became 'over-polished' with heavier outlining. The cross-hatching craze is all his fault too, but weren't we all clones of his at one point or another? Art Adams just fades in and out of the industry as far as I'm concerned. Nothing remotely consistent since the '90s. He's a great artist, but how is he going to leave his mark? Kick-ass covers for a reprint series? Come on, man! Get back to work! The Authority run several years ago was a good start.
  18. My GF is pretty understanding. After seeing all the unopened toy boxes crammed in my closet and not bolting for the hills she would have to be. She helped organize my collections by getting me a curio display case and an awesome bookshelf that houses my entire 4K+ comic collection. She even read the entire Sin City series (all 7 tpbs) before watching the movie!
  19. Sounds good. It was a visually striking series, but I thought they could have done more with it. Hopefully this second OVA will improve on the storyline. Way to many shows have an invincible main character. I blame Tomino and Gundam.
  20. That's awesome!!! Very nice work on the paint scheme, it looks toit! I second the red, Autobot heatshield just to see how it looks. Put in a TF colored pilot, too!
  21. Does Kintaro save the world in the manga? I wonder if there's any anniversary stuff going on for GB? Figures of the girls in the series would be awesome!
  22. *shock* The animation design looks exactly like the comic. I'll give Spawn some credit for being an interesting idea, but the story never really progressed. He just goes around ripping people's balls off, while TMC at least pays for them.
  23. Hey folks, I am missing a little round nubbin that Yamato uses to cover screws and stuff. It's from a 1/48 Hikaru 1A and located on the top of the plane near the backpack. You can't see it in battroid or gerwalk, but fighter mode just isn't the same PM me if you have one to sell/donate or if you think you might have one and need a picture of the valk to make sure. Thanks all.
  24. That's news to me. I just picked up the DC discs and I don't plan on getting this remaster set. I can't justify spending another $100+ on a series I've already watched several times and I'm perfectly happy with the original black box. Nice try, ADV!
  25. I would love to sign up for a custom artbox by Paul. Looks like a good idea for both Macross TV and M+.
