  1. I didn't really like Trigun either. Vash was too goofy to take seriously. I probably shouldn't have watched it dubbed. Felt the same thing with Trinity Blood.
  2. I just panic bought two sets each of the unpainted VF-1A and VF-1J at HLJ. Couldn't help it. I have zero modelling skills and no time to actually build these kits, but figured they might appreciate in the future (especially since people are actually building/modifying them every day). One of the 1As will be an Alaska Base custom.
  3. Just visited Angolz and noticed their prices increased. VF-17D is now $318 (up from $295) VF-17 fast packs are now $62 (no discount) VF-19 Fire is now $180 (up from $165) I'm sure a few more items went up, but I don't remember the previous prices.
  4. The FP combo is cheaper than buying them separately I think. That's what I picked up. Just got my first panic packages today - VF-19 Fire and Sound Booster. The Fire Custom is pretty darn impressive. Are the V2 1/60 YF-19's this good? I have a V1 and feel like it's going to fall apart if I touch it again (after reading Graham's disintegrating shoulder post).
  5. Just finished watching Dan Doh!! Let's go Smiley Ball! Smile shot!!
  6. Interesting to note HKC has increased prices slightly on several of the Macross items still in stock since I ordered last weekend. VF-19S Blazer HK$1099 (was HK$1049 ~+$6.50) VF-19P Planet Zola HK$1949 (was HK$1899 ~+$6.50) VF-19F HK$1949 (was HK$1799 ~+$19.50) Unassembled VF kits HK$529 (was HK$499 ~+$3.90) All of the items I ordered are still in stock (only the VF-17D has sold out as far as I can tell - at least from HKC), but my order would be +$40.30 today vs. last week.
  7. No more $98 Gamlins at Angolz
  8. Looks like the VF-17D is out of stock at HKC today. Still available at Angolz for $295. Both still have the VF-17D with fast pack.
  9. HKC ticked up the price slightly on the unassembled VF-1S/A/J kits - they were HK$499 last week. The VF-19F is out of stock when I checked today.
  10. The first rule of Panic Club is to order first and ask questions later. Like "Why did I just spend $1500 when I need to pay rent in five days or get evicted?" and "If I get divorced does my wife get to keep half of my valkyrie collection?".
  11. The Alaska Base was never released. Awesome custom with the unassembled VF-1A kit! I'm going to have to pick one up and try it myself...or ask someone else to do it who actually knows how to paint a model. Maybe if I don't have to paint those damn red lines on the legs. Would love to get a VF-1D kit to paint in CF colors too.
  12. in full 'Yamato just shut down!' panic mode

  13. Got the shipping confirmation today for my panic buy from HKC. I was a little worried for a minute, but everything shipped. Now the only valk I still need is a DYRL Focker. Got the TV version, but not exactly alike as the recent posts show. I really wish Yamato had released the VF-1A Alaska Base before going down for the count. The green would have been such a nice addition to the TV display.
  14. I felt the panic over the weekend and booked an order at HKC: VF-19 Fire VF-19S Blazer VF-19F VF-19P Zolan Patrol VF-17S VF-17D w/super pack VF-17 super pack VF-1S unassembled x2 Picked this up from ebay (hobby locus cancelled my first buy-it-now and had to order from basicabc) VF-19 Sound Booster I'm looking forward to everything except the sound booster. Sheesh! Does it play Fire Bomber songs at least? The VF-1S unassembled kits were a last minute addition. I'm planning to customize one for each of my kids someday. My daughter loves pink, purple, blue, black & white. It's going to be tough designing a valk color scheme with those colors!
  15. Tide Line Blue was just okay, mix of comedy and submarine action. I would have liked more serious action, but it had a nice message.
  16. I'm watching the first Aquarion right now (just finished episode and agree - it's not as good as I had hoped. I can't really pin down a reason. Hoping it gets better as the series progresses.
  17. I enjoyed IR and completely agree with the lord of the flies comparison - reviewed it here: http://dubsub.blogspot.com/2011/01/review-infinite-ryvius.html Getter Robo Armageddon was awesome. Just full-throttle action with robots smashing each other and monsters the whole way. Cool, thanks for the recommendation on Scrapped Princess. I've had the collection on my shelf for awhile and will actually watch it.
  18. This sale was soooo tempting. I put all the valks I wanted in my cart, but it was $900! Ended up only getting the Cavaliers and Movie CF. The VF-1S w/option parts and VF-1S unassembled almost made it in there too. Then reality kicked in.
  19. Finished watching Mushi-Shi recently and really enjoyed it. The slow pace and slight creepiness were really fun. Ginko was definitely a cool character (probably because he smoked constantly) and I really liked the concept of the Mushi as an allegory (or should I say metaphor?) for man vs. nature. I just started watching Blassreiter and it's totally jarring in comparison. Might have to set it aside for awhile and switch to something more mellow. Here's my review: http://dubsub.blogspot.com/2012/09/mushi-shi-anime-review.html
  20. I've seen that post before and it's still one of the funniest things I've ever read related to comics. Liefeld continues to get work to this day and is going to write/draw/crap upon three DC comics this year. He's always been a hack artist, but can throw down an exciting visial story despite the obvious lack of feet (women with bent spines, ridiculous costumes/weaponry, giant boobs on guys, etc). It truly boggles the mind. I have to disagree about Jim Lee - he was awesome back in the '90s, but his style suffered once he became a higher up at DC. His art is simplified and just doesn't have the same raw energy to it. Silvestri is still pretty good (raw energy) although he's a big studio head too. The only thing I can say about comics these days is - hope you like them digital. Does that mean old pamphlet comics will increase in value since they aren't printing new ones anymore? Hope so.
  21. I finished GXP recently and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. Despite the simple slapstick comedy and mild fan-service it was better than Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki IMHO. Being a full 26 episodes long helped characterization and the last few episodes were worth it. Episode 24 (I think) was my favorite when Seina finds the mecha robot.
  22. Right Stuf (especially their holiday sale), Ebay auctions, and streaming from Netflix or Crackle
  23. I just watched Macross II dubbed last night after reading this thread and it's baaaaaaaad. The dub was awful too. The dub vs. sub topic is a neverending debate. I think it depends on each individual's viewing preference and how they consume anime. Often I'll put on a show while working on something else and have it playing within sight, but in the background. I prefer dubs because I don't have to stare at the screen and can concurrently accomplish something else. In the back of my mind I know the original language + subs are more appropriate, but it doesn't fit my consumption method. I totally agree original language and voice actors are better (with some exceptions) than different language script + dubbing. When I have time to focus on just watching anime then my preference is subs, but that happens less often with kids (and they can't read yet). Of course the way the industry is going these days we may be watching all of our new anime with subs only.
  24. I like the old Akira dub as well. Kaneda's voice was hilarious and he really sounded like a dumbass punk. I wanted to punch his face in for being such a jerk! The Pioneer dub cleaned up his act and I'm not a big fan.
  25. Depends which version you watched (2003 vs. 2010 US release) and if it was dub or sub. I've heard the English dub (from either release) changes some key phrases from the original Japanese dub and the voice actors (Anna Paquinn & James Van Der Beek) sound older. The 2010 version has 'dub-titles' which follow the English dub instead of the Japanese dub. The background music gets amped up too. Laputa is one of my favorites because it's pure adventure and has some cool designs. It can be a little goofy (especially the pirates), but has a good story and is a less dark than Nausicaa. Nothing can touch Spirited Away.
