Yamato 1/60 VF-11b under development
Vostok 7 replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I would be OK with making it as deep as possible and then painting it black (with a gradient to the edge to signify shadow) to give the illusion of depth. The problem is, yes, the fans are in the lineart, but they're not about 5 inches from the edge of the intakes as they are on the Yamatos I understand why they can't put them back farther (because of the hinge and having to hide the flexible joint effect), but I'd rather the illusion of depth rather a weird fan molded to a flat plane of plastic that's completely visible from all angles. So I was thinking about this the other day. We know that the VF-0s were a "test-bed" of sorts for the VF-1 and that they were both made pretty concurrently, but the VF-0 was made in much smaller numbers. In universe, it seems that the VF-1 just completely replaced all the VF-0s and all the VF-0s just "disappeared". But that's pretty wasteful for the UN to spend all that money making a variable fighter they only used for one year as a stop-gap before the VF-1 was released. I would hypothesize that once the VF-1 was released and the bugs were worked out of the thermonuclear reactor engines, the VF-0s were subsequently upgraded with systems and engines from the VF-1s and kept in service for at least a little while. Like Block 6 VF-1s they would be called "VF-0x Plus" models, i.e. VF-0A+, VF-0S+, etc. etc. Single seat models like the -0A, -0S (commander) and the -0C (fixed delta wing, single seat) would be standard fighters, probably used in some special field (like for aces who had the most seat time in them and were more effective with them). The two seat variants, like the -0B (swing wing, two seat) and -0D (fixed delta wing, two seat) would become combat trainers at least until the -1D was delivered and probably still afterwards in some units. This just makes more sense rather than just mothballing all the VF-0s (even though there weren't many) within a year of release. Then of course, by the time that the late-war Block 6 'Plus' VF-1s began to be delivered (3-4 years after the deployment of the original VF-1), the VF-0 models would finally begin to be mothballed. Similarly, I would imagine the SV-51 was upgraded and used by Soviet Bloc units (in assistance to the UN since in Macross lore the Soviet Union is a member of the UN) until every unit was issued VF-1s. More than likely the 6 SV-51 two seaters (which assumedly would be called SV-51Us) would be kept in service for a reasonable amount of time. Vostok 7

I would assume it's Sukhoi Variable (though, depending on context, Variable in Russian may not start with a 'V'). Otherwise, it would be Su-51, or even more accurately, it would be SuIAIDo-51 or SuDoIAI-51 (see: LaGG), though most properly, assuming each company involved had their own variations, it would be prefixed by whatever company sold it to the military, I.E. Soviet Bloc countries would use an Su-51, Middle Eastern countries would use an IAI (insert Israeli name here) and Germany and other European countries would use a Do xxx (see: Sukhoi/HAL FGFA). And actually, following standard definition, couldn't the VF-1 actually be classified A/FV-1? I think it would fill both the attacker and fighter roles. Vostok 7

I found this on my FTP the other day. Made it when the first prototypes of the Alpha "super"posables were being shown: Vostok 7

That would be nice Hopefully it also means we get the VT-1 Super Ostrich, VE-1 ELINTseeker (those two would require a minor resculpt of the nose, cockpit and canopy) and VFER-1 Funny Chinese (which is just a VF-1D with similar gear to the ELINTseeker, just simpler). I'd buy each and every one of those. Since they obviously designed the new 1/60 to be two seater friendly, I can only hope that they milk it for all it's worth, considering there aren't THAT many two seater VF-1s. Vostok 7

You know one thing I just noticed looking over the Max-1S... Is it just me or is the seat WAY too far forward? It looks like poor Max' head is in the windscreen! According to the lineart the seat should be more in line with the canopy's cross bar. The -1D is more accurate with the cockpit in that respects (wonder if the new 2seater friendliness is the reason). Vostok 7

The -1D doesn't have a "dip" in the chest-plate where the back panel is like the single-seat VF-1s do. VF-1A VF-1D (notice it's "straight" across the top of the chest) This effectively conceals the "proud fuselage" in the neck of the normal models. Otherwise, the head would have been too sunken into the chest like it is on the original 1/60 Also, like it or not, the fighter is pretty accurate to the lineart: The nose is just a little stubby and the canopy too wide (which is why the original 1/60 is super-close in fighter mode), but otherwise it's pretty close. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I remember the same thing being said about the 1/48s. AND the FIRST 1/60s. Vostok 7

Yamato 1/60 VF-11b under development

+1. I don't mind "sacrificing" a little accuracy in the Battroid (since the 1/60 is practically perfect in Battroid, especially compared to the 1/72) for a better Fighter. Vostok 7 -
Ah, yes, Tommy Yune. I remember now. Vostok 7

CF for me, sorry. But that's a dang good deal. Vostok 7

Yamato 1/60 VF-11b under development

Too bad it's got the fast packs so we can't see the tailfins. Interestingly, they seem to stick a tiny bit out of the legs compared to the painted prototypes we've seen. Maybe they increased the size? I sure hope so. Vostok 7 -
No, there are definitely people who've watched the Japanese Macross and still think Robotech is better. Lots of them, in fact. The aforementioned Doug Bendo is one. In fact, there are people who swear Robotech was the original (usually the books are cited) and Macross is just a cheap Asian copy with a simplified plot line. There are a LOT of clueless people out there, don't fool yourself. But I do agree, had Carl Macek and HG not gotten a bee up their collective butt about Yamato attempting to sell Mac+ Valks in the US so many years ago, most of the people here would not have such a negative opinion of them. Indeed, before then there were a lot of cross fans. It was that event that was sort of a watershed for the community. It was further cemented by HG's (and Toynami's) handling of various things (most recently BBTS). Fact is, had they either supported Yamato's efforts in the US or just totally ignored it, people would not be so vehemently against HG and Toynami. Essentially, it was them that brought this upon themselves. Vostok 7

Hah, "indenting" the back hatch fixed the problem on the 1/48. I can't believe I missed that before. I must have done it before on my Low Viz I and then forgot when I got my Low Viz II Vostok 7

I was wondering about that. Is it supposed to indent in slightly like on the VF-0s? That's probably my problem. I thought the hinge at the bottom was supposed to friction fit it. I thought the "chair" piece was just a filler to make it look more accurate or something, didn't realize it's a structural piece. As for the VF-0, I hate to get rid of it and try to get another. This one was hard enough to get and they're getting scarce seems like. I think it's fixable. Worst case, I could try getting a replacement through Over-Drive or something. I have to say, other than a slightly loose shoulder socket, this is the best VF-0 I've had for Battroid mode. It's only the fighter mode which is a little weird. Usually, most Yamato's I buy are strong in Fighter mode and suck in every other mode Vostok 7

Just got my VF-0A finally. Has a small problem (other than a few loose joints that should touch up with some nail polish or something). One of the tail fins "overextends" and is too floppy. By overextending I mean the tiny little lip of a stop at the bottom has bent out of shape and now the fin falls towards the leg further than the other side (which is solid). How could one fix this? It's really loose too, just flops back and forth which would be easy to fix, but I'm at a loss on how to fix it falling the other way. Then, on my 1/48 VF-1A (Low Viz II), when in Battroid mode, the back panel with the backpack clip falls backwards, especially when fast packs are mounted. There's NO tension in the joint at all. It locks in place in fighter mode just fine, though. How could I fix that? Maybe I should just take the things apart on an exploratory mission and see what I can fix Vostok 7

  Well, good to have you here. Sorry my post brought such vitriol to your blog but as I said, I didn't intend that, it was just an unfortunate byproduct. As you can tell, we get a little heated here about Robotech/Macross comparisons. Read through the HG Disputes threads for a little more background Vostok 7

*sigh* If only the Toynami Alpha wasn't such a lame piece of junk, and the Beta didn't have a limp stubby (apparently symmetrically diseased?) penis for a cockpit... Vostok 7

Wow, that TV Q-Rau is fantastic. Vostok 7

I hope there will be a Max -1A. That's still my favorite 1/60 v1. It's the only one I've kept other than the -1D and CF -1A's. Oh, and the Super Millia I have for my Millia shrine Vostok 7

I think there was more articulation in one tiny CyberJet than in most of the G1 offerings combined Vostok 7 -
