Back on the old forums shortly before the switch I posted my MiG-45 Valhalla project. Well, it's long gone along with the old forum, but I found the images I made the other day and thought I'd post them. It all started with this sketch: The MiG-33, NATO Reporting Name: Victor was supposed to be the Soviet "version" of the VF-1A, made cheaper and more simply (and therefore more rugged and easier to maintain) in the true Russian fashion. The first ground for the MiG-33 actually broke long before Macross Zero, and I've had to adjust some things since then, but despite having dropped the project for around 6 years, I plan to resurrect it with a good bit of well educated fanon The MiG-33 evolved into the MiG-45, NATO Reporting Name: Valhalla: Shown here as a teaser lineart in SVFA-307 297th Black Wolf Squadron colors: And the full lineart: As you can see, it's essentially a -1A head with a fixed ballistic cannon (can't remember the bore at the moment, I believe it was based on a standard Russian aircraft cannon) instead of an elevation-adjustable laser cannon. The ammo feed is in the back, the ammo would have been stored in the chest section of the battroid (or the fuselage of the fighter). I never got around to designing the fighter, something I plan to do now, and I might adjust the head (I want to make it more VF-0A-ish). Here's the squadron logo: And here's the Black Wolf Squadron's VF-1A's color scheme: Hopefully I'll get to work on this a little more and finally flesh it out a little bit Stay tuned for some back history on the MiG-45 in general! Yamato 1/60 VF-11b under development

Nope, not kidding, never had any GBP armors for my Valks. Now, if Yamato had ever made Stampede armor or a Full Armor GERWALK... Vostok 7 -
Yamato 1/60 VF-11b under development

What in the world is that grey cover inside the battroid's chest? Never seen that before. Vostok 7 -
Yeah, some good stuff there Especially for when I'm off work... Vostok 7

I have a feeling that fan made trailer is about 96% cooler than anything Hollywood will actually make Vostok 7

Indeed, we don't know what really happened to the SV-51. It definitely didn't seem to be a test vehicle like the VF-0. But Canon states that only 32 of the CFs were made and probably only a handful of the 'Gamma' Ace variants (I think the Macross Compendium states there were four VF-0S' made, so probably a similar amount of 'Gamma' SV-51s were built). That's why I say that probably not every single SV-51 was in AUN service, but we don't know. When Macross Zero came out while I was designing my MiG-45 project (which I haven't moved further on ), the fanon I came up with said that the Soviet Union was so angry at Sukhoi for selling the SV-51 to the AUN that they canceled the SV-51 project and instead gave everything to Mikoyan i Gurevich to make a variable fighter, which became the MiG-45, NATO Reporting name: Valhalla. Then, when the Soviet Union was approved to license build VF-1s for the UN, this was also given to MiG. Though I'm working through the fanon that there was a little more to the situation than was on the surface and that the Soviet Union was actually getting money from the AUN AND the UN to fund several overtechnology projects (not just variable fighters and mecha) at the same time, all of which benefited the Soviet Union and the UN Spacy in general once SW1 started (since the AUN sorta died off when SW1 started). From what I've seen, the VF-4 is one of SK's designs that practically REQUIRES a heavy amount of anime magic to work. Most of his designs only require anime magic for proportions and things, but with the VF-4 it seems like whole assemblies come out of anime magic, like the head for instance (if you look at the pictures he posted, there's no way the head wholly constitutes that tiny little triangle between the beige inspection panel (I assume that's an ejection port for the pilot in Battroid mode) and the wings. Unless the wings slide backwards and outwards a little bit. Vostok 7

I know why there was no VF-0 in any of the other series (conveniently the files were kept secret until Macross F was made AFTER Macross Zero ), but as Mr. March said, I was asking in-universe. Vostok 7

THANK YOU!!! Especially the one with her getting out of her Q-Rea...  Vostok 7

Don't get me wrong, I love the classic VF-1, but there's something really gorgeous about the VF-0. And I love the -0A head design, it's a little more 'interesting' than the old-school -1A's head. Vostok 7

I did some more reading and according to the Macross Compendium the VF-0 had been in development since 2002 and the first examples were flying by 2004. So I suppose it wasn't a 'one year deal' as I had initially thought. The VF-1 was also planned at the same time but the designing wasn't even complete until 2005, with the VF-X-1 first flying in 2007. So, essentially, to compare to RW time frame, the VF-0 and SV-51 were generation 4.5 fighters where the VF-1 was a full generation 5 fighter. (see: 4th Generation Fighter) I wouldn't say that the technology used on the VF-0 was 'completely obsolete' by the time the VF-1 was delivered. It's been pretty clear that the VF-0 was nearly a match for the VF-1 except for being HUGE (and therefore less maneuverable and more fragile) and having underpowered engines and slightly less advanced equipment (weapons are slightly smaller and slightly weaker, avionics are slightly weaker, etc.). But that doesn't mean that the airframe wouldn't have been upgradeable. Comparing again to RW, you see aging airframes constantly updated with the latest and greatest. Most fighters in the US inventory for example are designs that are going on 30+ years old, but they have been constantly upgraded to stay up with current technology. Vostok 7

Yeah, the Blue Angels use a FA-18B two-seater for ridealongs. And the Russian SV-51 team would be the Swift Knights Vostok 7

You have a point. It's just sad that such beautiful designs (both the VF-0 all variants and the SV-51) were 'one time use only' so-to-speak. I'd imagine some hung around as "museum" pieces or something. Though, the program was kept secret for some time I understand. Vostok 7

Why -1Js and not -1S'? And why the whole team? -1Js were for air team leaders and squadron leaders, the -1S was limited production for squadron leaders and Air Group commanders. If anything, the team leader of the Angel Birds would fly a -1J and the rest would be -1As. Vostok 7
-
And destroids too, I guess, don't forget destroids! Vostok 7
-
32 SV-51 'CFs', 6 SV-51 two seat trainers and an unknown number of tuned Ace variants. That's total production though. Remember, Sukhoi, Dornier and IAI were companies in countries under the control of the UN (At least the Soviet Union was specifically a UN member at that time, and Sukhoi was the primary behind the SV-51) so how the AUN got a hold of them in the first place is an unknown, and if they had them ALL is also unknown. It would have been a pretty major flub up for Sukhoi to sell their total production of revolutionary Air-Superiority Variable Fighters to a faction against the governmental organization they are supposed to be a part of! Vostok 7
-
Just as I thought, in translated to Russian words, IAI would only be IAP (Izrail' Aerokosmicheckoy Promyshlennosti), so no V there. Unless Dornier and IAI were working under an umbrella company together with Sukhoi, but all the information we have lists them together. Which is why I imagine it just stands for Sukhoi Variable. Vostok 7

Generally I would imagine that the Angel Birds would fly -1As. Demonstration teams usually fly the most stripped model (for lightness, quickness, acceleration and handling). Since the Valks are pretty much the same across the board save for the head lasers and slight avionics differences, I'd imagine the "stripped" -1A would be the best choice. Vostok 7
-
Usually they would just be spelled as they are in latin characters since company names aren't usually translated in that sense. At most they would transliterate the names into cyrillic as best possible. Dornier being a name would definitely only be transliterated. IAI is possible for translation since those are separate words that form a name, but even still being a company name it usually wouldn't be translated out. I'll look it up and see what it comes up with. Vostok 7

We desperately need more macronized Klan Klan art. I mean, I get the whole loli appeal to Klan Klan, but I feel dirty looking at this thread Vostok 7

That's what I'm thinking, which is why I hope they make EVERY two seater VF-1 that was out there, and maybe even some non-canon color schemes. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense to sacrifice some accuracy in the one seaters just to cater to the 3 or 4 versions of two seaters possible (if sticking strictly to canon, not including the one -1D repaint). I wonder if it's time to give up hope for a VF-0D/VF-0B yet Vostok 7

Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.3
Vostok 7 replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Wow, styrofoam packaging. Looks like Bandai did it's homework! I'm not going to buy the VF-25S until I see if they ever make the Full Armor mode. I might get the VF-25G, though. Especially now that I see it's got styrofoam packaging!! Vostok 7 -
Ah, I see where you were going with the FAST/Strike = Attack. But I mean, wouldn't a Battroid be "Attacking" a Zentraedi? Vostok 7
-
Attack is a pretty broad term. Look at most aircraft designated "Attack", F/A-35, F/A-18, A-10, AV-8B, etc. etc. Most of them use the term "attack" in the sense of ground attack/support, which both the Battroid and GERWALK modes of the VF-1 would fill in spades Vostok 7

Yeah, but there was some time between the start of SW1 and when that happened. And that's assuming they stayed atmospheric-only fighters. If they had been upgraded, there's no reason they couldn't become fully space capable like the VF-1, considering they already were partially space capable for a limited time period. Vostok 7
