The Playmates one isn't bad. Vostok 7

I liked the look too, but I agree, the lens flare was a little ridiculous at times. Hazardous work environment or what, with all those lights right at eye level! Vostok 7

So I broke down and threw my money into Sony's billion dollar hole. I don't have it yet, wifey bought it for me while visiting her parents (Oregon, no sales tax, YAY!) and she's not back yet. Not a bad deal, got the 80gb version with Motorstorm and Resistance included and a free second wireless controller for $399 and then an HDMI cable. I probably got raped and they'll probably drop the price by $200 within a couple months as is per usual whenever I buy a Playstation product, so this thing better be worth it! Now, is GT5 coming out sometime this century or...? Vostok 7

*BZZT*, Bethesda had nothing to do with it. Bethesda owns all of Fallout, but Interplay was recently rebooted and has rights to sell the original games (anything pre-FO3), with Bethesda's blessing (though rumors are flying that Bethesda may kick Interplay totally out of the picture - Interplay has no rights to Fallout anymore but was licensed by Bethesda to make a Fallout-based MMORPG, however they haven't started work on it and don't seem to be intending to so Bethesda is starting legal proceedings to pull the plug. How this will effect the previous titles is anyone's guess). The new Interplay website has been selling FO and FO2 and FO:T for a few months now, they just put it on CD. So it wasn't for legal reasons, it was because it was really Interplay. I assume Black Isle was on there simply because they were the developer. However, I don't know why they call it the "Fallout Trilogy" when Tactics isn't considered canon in the FO universe and isn't a direct sequel of any of the FO games. I assume it's just a crappy way to get publicity from FO3. I never played the original games, but I love FO3 so I picked up the set just to check out what the hype was about. I appreciate the old fans saying FO3 "isn't Fallout", but really, I feel FO3 is better in a lot of ways. First person 3d makes it more "personal" in my opinion. This is why I also enjoy Bethesda's Oblivion when I'm not generally a RPG fan. Vostok 7

Yay Millia! Is it just me or does that battle pod just look too big? Like two or three times too big? Vostok 7

That's MUCH better. At the 700-900m mark a single nacelle is bigger than the original Constitution! Vostok 7

I'm tempted to get the Helldiver because I love it, but I just bought the CMs OVA Ingram and Brocken on the HLJ sale. Hopefully CMs will come out with a Helldiver, otherwise I might have to get that WHAM one!! Vostok 7

Actually, they used several Anime model kits to kitbash ships as well (most notably the original model for the USS Stargazer which used several Valkyrie parts as well as two Ertl Enterprise A kits). Straight from the horses mouth, so-to-speak, not just a "wiki": http://groups.google.com/group/alt.sf.scal...D1%26&pli=1 http://groups.google.com/group/alt.sf.scal...5ccfbb747308334 http://groups.google.com/group/alt.sf.scal...c2e76a01e2c4b9a http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/2009/01/11/...bash-pictorial/ <---- Pictures of the original Stargazer model seen on Picard's desk. As far as I understand, Pike was never on the Kelvin. He only said he did his dissertation on the Kelvin. Vostok 7

Pike said he was capable of being Captian in 4 years and having his own ship in 8. When he boarded the shuttle to join Starfleet, he told Pike he'd be captian in 3 years. Taking the Kobyashi Maru test (and passing) is essentially like going to Westpoint here on Earth, it's a fast track to being an Officer. On top of that, it wasn't "Starfleet" that promoted Kirk, it was Pike. He saw extreme potential in Kirk and so made him FO in his absence (Spock being Captian at that point). With Pike gone that became essentially set in stone. Kirk then got Spock out of the captian chair with his emotional gambit (spurred by Spock Prime), became a hero, and then the Starfleet, with now-Admiral Pike's recommendation, made Kirk permanent Captian of the Enterprise. Considering that it was an "armada" of primarily rookie filled ships sent to Vulcan (since it wasn't seen as an actual threat), and most of the rest of Starfleet was tied up in another system, promoting those who have shown extreme potential for leadership wouldn't be uncommon. Uhura for instance was promoted to Lieutenant within a few minutes of the ship leaving dock. Also, we don't know the beginning ranks of everyone. Kirk's rank is never mentioned (so calling him a cadet or ensign is a little incongruous). Look at the fact that McCoy was promoted to head of Medical simply because one guy was killed shows that he was apparently already second in command of Medical even though he was just as fresh out of the Academy as Kirk was. So no, I found no fault with Kirk's "meteoric" rise to Captian. We also don't know totally what Spock Prime's hand was in the situation either. Vostok 7

Holy geez, I ~NEED~ all three VF-0s. Too bad they're so teeny. I wish someone would make decently scaled fighter only toys Vostok 7

Your assumption is correct. My understanding was that the YF-21 outperformed the YF-19, but the main issue was the brain interface. So, they retooled the YF-21 to have a standard control scheme, made some improvements (my understanding was the FAST packs became integrated) and called it the VF-22. Vostok 7

I would also add 3) The absolute lack of information. The first one was hyped extensively and had previews, pictures, everything all over the place. Now we get to Ray and it's zippo, not even a peep. Vostok 7

So I saw the trailer before Star Trek. Unfortunately, this is going to be a suck fest. Did anyone see the scene in the trailer where the two power suit guys are dodging missiles? Yeah, I remember seeing that scene the first time when the movie was called Transformers. The trailer was pretty good up until that point, then it felt like I was watching a trailer for the next Asylum film. PASS. Vostok 7

OK so further thoughts time. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Definitely one of the best movies I've seen in some time. The characters were nailed (Pine as Kirk did an excellent job and I think Urban as McCoy was definitely a highlight). The movie had GREAT action. I loved how they threw in the references to primarily TOS and the original movies in such a way that fans would get them, but they were still good jokes to even non-fans. Perfect way to keep the nerds, without losing the "uneducated" at the same time. Someone needs to compile a list of the homages! I loved Sulu not being able to get the Enterprise to warp, an excellent reference to the Excelsior in STIII. Some small details I LOVED was the increased realism in space. Several space scenes had minimal noise (or muted noise) which I felt was great and refreshing, since most sci-fis are filled with noise in space. Also the debris floating around (such as when the Kelvin is hit but is sitting after the captain boards the Narada, for instance) was another nice touch of realism. Some have complained about the iPhone bridge, I didn't have a problem with it. I thought it was well done. Also, Chekov's accent didn't bother me, considering he was younger and fresh out of the academy compared to the Checkov we see in the TOS and so on and so essentially hasn't "unlearned" his accent yet. I do agree about the engineering. It was a nice effect and gave a better sense of realism than the original Treks, but definitely was much too big and industrial. Also the logistics nightmare of the fact that everyone has to go through all those low beams to even get to the shuttlebay was a little odd. Another issue was the fact that the Starfleet base on the ice planet looked like a set from Lost. But other than that, it was a great movie. Also, I have to say I wasn't a HUGE fan of the new Big E. I definitely want to see more of the other ships seen around the Starfleet base and other scenes! Some really neat looking designs there that I hope we see more of!! All in all it was a great movie. Definitely one of the best prequels/reboots/etc. etc. I've ever seen. Vostok 7

OH MY GOD. I just finished watching. This is definitely the best Trek ever and just may be the best sci fi movie in some time. As aside, Year One and Land of the Lost look like riots. Must see. More Star Trek thoughts when I get home. Vostok 7

I haven't seen it yet, waiting for the crowds to die down, but I'm glad that people are liking it. Personally I like the idea of this new Trek being a tabula rasa, so to speak. As Chronocidal said, there's a lot of potential. Maybe even a new TV series? How cool would that be? It's interesting to see a Trek with an alternate universe that isn't just a minor change on the old norm (such as the Imperial "Mirror"verses), but one that shatters all conventions and pretty much destroys standard canon. Let's just hope they can keep this one going with a minimal use of time travel and holodeck malfunctions. Please. No more holodeck malfunctions. Vostok 7

See, this is why I say it's all about your feelings over the various shows. I grew up with the movies, so I prefer the movie designs. You grew up with TOS, so you prefer those designs. Etc. etc. Someone who grew up with Voyager and DS9 are going to prefer those. And so on and so on. I also agree on the Ambassador Class. I wish we had see more of it and it's generation. @myk: To be fair to the Constitution, the original Enterprise was intended to look like NASA rockets with a flying saucer. From what I understand, that was Roddenberry's intention. Besides, of course the Constitution and Refit Constitution are going to look like "a bunch of tacked on parts" considering they were kitbash models In the long run, I actually prefer most of the "non-Hero" ships, especially designs like the Miranda Class and Nebula Class, for instance. I agree. The Galaxy Class has always been an ugly duckling IMO. The bulbous saucer, the fish mouth deflector, the completely undersized warp nacelles... No thanks. My favorites will ALWAYS be the early "Movie" era ships, the Refit Constitution, the Miranda Class, the Excelsior Class (and even the Refit Excelsior from Generations), etc. I always thought those had the best design aesthetic. I guess it all chalks up to what you remember the most fondly. My fondest Star Trek memories were watching the movies. My dad and grandpa and I would always go see them when they first came out. Also, the first model I ever built was a huge Ertl Enterprise-A/Refit that I absolutely loved so that probably played a major part. Vostok 7
