Honestly, I like it better than EVE. The mechanics are better IMO, but it's not as "deep" as EVE is. STO is more of a knock out a few missions when you have some time, get ships, tinker with ships, shoot some Klingons, etc. etc. kinda game.

Hehe I was doing some enemy sensor contacts in the Sirius sector with my T3 cruiser, going soloing against the big Klingon groups with no problem, and I was watching the T1s trying to do what I was doing when I was taking a break during down time and I was counting to my fleet as they went down By the third one I decided to go help out Ah, I remember those days.

Check your C:/users/public/games/Cryptic Studios/star trek online/live/screenshots/ That's where the game deposits them when you hit printscreen. Replace Users with Documents and Settings if you're not on Windows 7 (or Vista?)

Already saw a couple Tier 4s tonight. Now that I've hit Commander I'm taking a break for a little bit until Head Start begins. I could try to push for the next level but no real reason to do that work and then just have to do it all over again. Still working here. They were having server problems, so maybe try again? Here's my new ship, a Cheyenne Class (modified with lots of Dakota and Stargazer Class parts), the U.S.S. Idaho Falls, NCC-93227 At the Guardian of Time... On a mission with a buddy.

Yes, you can put on as many phasers as you want but watch your power levels. Once you get to three or more you start draining your power pretty quickly. Don't be so quick to downplay torps. As far as the servers going down with no warnings and things, just remember everyone it's still beta. And yes, I know it's "really close to release" but being that it's beta (and the response has been more than they anticipated), there's bound to be some down time.

You also seem to get tons more skill points for both your bridge officers and yourself when teaming.

Yeah, I had no problems with that mission. Unlike a Patrol mission I did in Alpha Centauri against Reman and Hirogen where I had to re-do two systems at least three times before it acknowledged it And if you were a smuggler on the run from the Federation, wouldn't you have a pretty highly upgraded ship? And Klingon BoP's can pack a punch. Yes, they are "easy" but they're pretty stripped down too. If you notice that freighter has crap for weapons but a strong hull and shields. Perfectly acceptable for someone stealing equipment from the Federation IMO.

Not a clue, but there's a lot to expand on. Currently playable are the Federation and the Klingons. At the moment, the Klingons are pretty much PvP/PvE only with no real storyline. The Cardassians and Romulans are planned playable factions that should be opened in the near future and will more than likely be similar to the Klingons though some have rumored that there will be a fleshed out story with at least one of them. At some point fleets (STO's version of Guilds) are supposed to be able to have their own starbases and custom ships and custom uniforms and the like but we'll see. Full ship interiors are supposed to be mapped out at some point as well. So really, this is a pretty early version of the game, like any first release MMO. If there's enough support, there's MUCH expansion that could be made. I doubt it will ever be like EVE as far as the sandbox-ness goes but IMO it's better than EVE in many ways.

Make sure you apply your skill points. It will say you've leveled up to 11, then apply your skill points through the skill window and the Admiral will ask you to return to Starbase and after you talk to him you will get your new ship (well, you have to go get it from a vendor but it will be free).

New ship is 11, and you get your first one free. After you get a new ship you start leveling and making money pretty quickly. And yes, it is relatively boring and repetitive but do as many of the story missions as you can (not the patrols or the secure or the exploration missions, but the one that progresses your story) and it's MUCH more interesting. Also, now that the different sectors are opened up there's much more interesting stuff to be found. I'm on the Romulan front right now and it's an absolute blast. Just had a mission where I was double crossed by a "federation" agent. There's also a very cool time travel mission. I've even had to repeat a couple missions due to a bug and I didn't even get bored with them. So, in a word, it gets better.

It appears that Cruisers got tweaked to be better tanks too. I can take on way more ships than I could before as long as I keep up my proper shield management.

For some reason I get crap for drops. It's gotten a tiny bit better since the upgrade but still I pretty much just get batteries and maybe some MkII equipment I can't use anyway. Blargh.
