  1. Inside Out has an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. In addition, it's competing against Anomalisa, Boy & the World, Shaun the Sheep Movie, and When Marnie Was There in the Best Animated Feature Film award.
  2. The Hateful Eight has three Academy Award nominations: Best Supporting Actress - Jennifer Jason Leigh Best Original Score - Ennio Morricone Best Cinematography JJL might bag her award, Morricone may or may not beat John Williams, and 70mm cinematography may not guarantee a win - especially against The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Sicario.
  3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has five Academy Award nominations: Best Original Score - John Williams Best Sound Editing Best Sound Mixing Best Film Editing Best Visual Effects As far as these go, Williams has to worry about Ennio Morricone's score for The Hateful Eight. All the technical awards will be a free-for-all between this film and The Revenant, The Martian, and Mad Max: Fury Road.
  4. The Martian has seven Academy Award nominations: Best Picture Best Actor - Matt Damon Best Adapted Screenplay Best Sound Editing Best Sound Mixing Best Production Design Best Visual Effects It'll probably bag the Best Adapted Screenplay award, but everything else will probably go to The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, or Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  5. Sly has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for this year's Academy Awards. Unless Tom Hardy's performance in The Revenant is better, it's an easy win for Rocky.
  6. Here's a surprise: Mad Max: Fury Road has 10 Academy Award nominations: Best Picture Best Director - George Miller Best Sound Editing Best Sound Mixing Best Production Design Best Cinematography Best Makeup and Hairstyling Best Costume Design Best Film Editing Best Visual Effects Too bad it'll lose most of them to The Revenant.
  7. Oh yeah, that hasn't been discussed here yet. Saban is currently working on a Power Rangers reboot film, which is slated for a March 24, 2017 (originally scheduled for January 13) release. The film will be directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), with the screenplay by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Star Trek Beyond). Being a reboot, the film will be all about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers lineup, with the following cast: Dacre Montgomery as Jason Scott/Red Ranger Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor/Black Ranger (now an Asian like Adam Park in season 2) RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger (now a Black nerd?) Becky G (Latina pop singer) as Trini/Yellow Ranger (now a Latina) Naomi Scott (Maddy Shannon in Terra Nova) as Kimberly Hart/Pink Ranger No word on who will play Tommy Oliver/Green Ranger, as Jason David Frank is too old for this installment. 12. Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo (First Blood) "I could have killed 'em all, I could kill you. In town you're the law, out here it's me. Don't push it. Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe. Let it go. Let it go." A Vietnam War Veteran who wanders around Hope, WA, after discovering that the last of his comrades has died of cancer. When he is wrongly arrested by Sheriff Will Teasle for vagrancy and abused by the police, Rambo snaps and escapes into the forest. After Chief Deputy Art Galt is accidentally killed when he falls off the police helicopter during the manhunt, Rambo offers to surrender, but the police push his limits when they open fire at him. Soon, the town becomes a war zone when the Army National Guard are called in to take him down.

  15. Just a couple of days ago, Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group purchased Legendary Entertainment for US$3.5 billion. Just how big is Wanda Group? They own AMC Theatres in the U.S. and Hoyts Cinemas in Australia, as well as several hotels and shopping malls worldwide. What does this mean for Legendary? $$$ to finally make Pacific Rim 2, as China was the largest market for the first film. This is the hope that Guillermo was talking about.
