I was expecting this to be a Gladiator ripoff. Guess I'll save my $7.50 for Shrek 2 instead.

Gokusen ( ごくせん ) NTV/VAP, 2002-2003 Aired on a few foreign-language stations in the U.S., but that's about it. Not Rated (Suggested 13-Up). Contains violence and mature situations. Cast - Yukie Nakama (Naoko in Trick) as Kumiko "Yankumi" Yamaguchi - Jun Matsumoto as Shin Sawada - Tomohiro Waki as Teruo "Kuma" Kumai - Shun Oguri as Haruhiko "Uchi" Uchiyama - Hiroaki Narimiya as Noda - Yuma Ishigaku as Minami - Kazuki Sawamura as Shinohara - Misaki Ito (Natsumi in You're Under Arrest drama) as Shizuka Fujiyama - Yuko Nakazawa as Nakashima-sensei - Ryosei Tayama as the principal - Katsuhisa Namase as the vice-principal Synopsis Fresh out of college, Kumiko "Yankumi" Yamaguchi becomes a math teacher at Shirokin high school. Unfortunately for her, she's assigned by the school board as the homeroom teacher for class 3-D, which happens to be the class of delinquent students. When the class attempts to make a living hell out of Yankumi's career, they fail as her persistence and aggression gain her respect. However, little does anyone in the school know that Yankumi is actually heir to the Oedo Group - one of Tokyo's most powerful yakuza clans. If anyone finds out that Yankumi is a yakuza member, her career as a teacher could be in jeopardy. Lowdown Before the anime came out, I discovered this live-action adaptation of Gokusen last year when I was flipping channels one Sunday night. A local station that specializes in foreign-language programming had this J-Drama on its Japanese timeslot. Despite not having subtitles, I was hooked on the series. Maybe it was the hokey slapstick comedy that made me stay tuned to it. Or maybe it was because it had not one, but two hot J-Drama actresses in the form of Yukie Nakama and Misaki Ito. It wasn't too long before I picked up the original manga and read through it. Just how different is the live-action Gokusen when compared to the anime and manga versions? Much like GTO, many of Gokusen's rather racy moments which involve nudity and adult jokes are nowhere to be seen in the drama adaptation (mostly because J-Drama shows are targeted to a more general audience than anime shows). Yukie looks perfect as Yankumi, but her yakuza character is severely downplayed. Misaki is hot and all, but she somewhat doesn't fit the role of Fujiyama-sensei, who's supposed to be a complete slurm. All the students are very close to their manga counterparts except Uchi. In the manga and anime, Uchi is supposed to be a level-headed dork; in the drama, he's a silent person who easily gets into fights. The vice-principal is a dead ringer for the anime version, except that he's missing his hard hat. Yankumi's underlings Tetsu and Minoru have their names completely mismatched from the manga. And there is no Fuji the bulldog in the drama. (As if they'll do a CG/plush doll like Toei did with Luna in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.) Because of Fuji's absence, Yankumi no longer hides the fact that she's a skilled fighter. As for the story itself, it's not perfect. Yankumi's role as a yakuza ojou takes up less than 10% of screen time. As a result, most viewers practically forget that she is a yakuza, except when she accidentally uses yakuza jargon on her dialogue. Gokusen also has a pleasant soundtrack composed by Michiru Oshima (Fullmetal Alchemist, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon), accompanied by an upbeat ending theme by V6. Gokusen may not resemble the manga or anime, but it's still enjoyable anyway. Download the fansubs here. Rating: B Links NTV's Official Gokusen Homepage (Japanese) Reference Anime News Network

SPOILER ALERT!!! Do not read further unless you've reached episode 30. Usagi-chan tries to explain to the rest of the class that she didn't hurt Mio. Ami-chan and Naru back her up. One classmate says that when the Yoma appeared, Usagi-chan ran off and left Mio alone. Mio then says she'll quit show business if Usagi-chan wants her to. In the end, everyone in class has lost their trust in Usagi-chan. Outside Crown Karaoke, Motoki looks at two tickets for the movie "Finding Kame" (from the people who brought you "Lord of the Kame: Return of the King"). He plans to take Mako-chan out for dinner and a movie. At that moment, he sees her and rushes back into the lobby. He shows off his two movie tickets, but she just shows him her pass and proceeds to the karaoke rooms. In the Sailor Senshi HQ, everyone undergoes the same special training from last week's episode. Meanwhile, at the Dark Kingdom, Queen Beryl calls out Kunzite. She knows that he's recovered parts of his lost memories. She warns him not to be reckless with his comrades. In London, Mamoru is once again paid a visit from Zoicite. The next day in school, Usagi-chan is brushed off by her classmates. During lunch, Naru talks to Mio about her story of being hurt by Usagi-chan. Mio gives Naru a deadly stare. Later, at a recording studio, Mio is performing a song when Minako-chan's presence causes her to mess up the recording. She runs to the main lobby to talk to Minako-chan, who questions her appearance at Juuban Middle School. She then asks where she attended school before transferring, causing Mio to break down and cry. The production staff then starts questioning Minako-chan. Back at school, classmates still brush off Usagi-chan, but are excited to see the nerdy teacher who appears on every other episode. Usagi-chan then meets up with Mio, who thinks she gave Minako-chan a bad impression. Mio then proposes to set up a live concert to help clear up Minako-chan's image. Later, flocks of students take their seats at the mini concert hall, awaiting the appearance of Minako-chan. Mio mentions that Ami-chan and Mako-chan won't be attending the concert. They notice that it's 5:45, and Minako-chan is nowhere to be found. The lights go on and the crowd cheers for Minako-chan to appear. It's past 6:30 and the crowd is chanting for Minako-chan. Mio says Minako-chan may have stood everyone up by no-showing. "MINAKO! DAKARA?!" ("Where is Minako?") is the chant coming from the crowd as it's five minutes to 7:00. Usagi-chan and Mio are extremely worried. Mio offers to go onstage and apologize to the crowd, but Usagi-chan stops her and tells her she'll go. Usagi-chan goes behind the mic and tells everyone that Minako-chan isn't around. The crowd responses with "MINAKO! DA-ZE?!" ("Where is Minako?") chants as Mio laughs at the sight of Usagi-chan losing more of her friends. Then suddenly, the lights go out. Music is being played outside the concert hall. Everyone rushes to the front entrance to see the commotion. Minako-chan: "Sorry I'm late!" Minako-chan has just arrived with her band. Mio's plans have been foiled. As the crowd goes crazy, Usagi-chan detects the presence of a Yoma. She sees the same one that got away last week and runs backstage to confront it. The Yoma traps Sailor Moon in a web, but once again, the Mystical Silver Crystal within her glows and breaks the webbing with the Moon Stick. Sailor Moon finishes off they Yoma with the Moon Twilight Flash. After the concert, Usagi-chan meets up with Minako-chan. Mio once again confronts Minako-chan, asking why she showed up. Usagi-chan finds out that Mio never planned on having Minako-chan appear. Minako-chan also tells Usagi-chan that her friends weren't invited either. Mio explains that she doesn't want Usagi-chan to be all alone. Usagi-chan tries to cheer her up. She then receives a call from Mako-chan. She says goodbye to both Mio and Minako-chan as she runs off. Minako-chan then warns Mio not to do anything to Usagi-chan again. Next time on Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon In order for her powers to awaken, Mako-chan must overcome her fears, which includes going out on a date with Motoki.

SPOILER ALERT!!! Do not read further unless you've reached episode 5. Episode 5: Buddy Murphy 「バディ・マーフィー」 To make a long story short, we're introduced to the show's new mascot Murphy K-9, who has a nasty habit of raising one hind leg and releasing coolant on anyone. He's also the Sentai main weapon, as he transforms into the D-Bazooka. And the whole scene where Umeko-chan misplaces her SP License is hilarious. Dekaranger Robo ( デカレンジャーロボ ) Bandai, 2004 Imported by T-West, Inc., Carson, CA Contents - Box 1: Patrol Striker - Box 2: Patrol Gyrer & Patrol Armor - Box 3: Patrol Trailer & Patrol Signer - Lemon-flavored candy in each box The DX Dekaranger Robo is a thing of beauty, but let's face it - it's too freaking expensive right now. For fans of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger looking for a much cheaper alternative, look no further than this three-box set by Bandai's candy division. And at US$4.29 per box, it's a steal. If you have experience in assembling Gundam model kits, this set is a no-brainer. You basically open the box through the perforated lines to unwrap the instructions printed behind. Assemble all parts, apply stickers and you're good to go (unless you want to paint the thing as well). And in the usual candy toy tradition, each box comes with a chewable candy pill as a reward for finishing this little project. Now to talk about the toy itself: Each Dekamachine has a gimmick feature as seen in the TV series: Patrol Striker has manipulator arms located inside the quarter panels and its rear wheels can mount either the Judgment Sword or Gyrer Wappers (handcuffs). Patrol Gyrer's rotors are adjustable and store the Gyrer Wappers when not used. Patrol Trailer has a compartment that stores the Signal Cannon and blade portion of the Judgment Sword. Patrol Armor has floodlights that double as the Judgment Sword's hilt. Patrol Signer has the sign board that swivels to any position and displays either the SPD badge or a red X. Combine all five Dekamachines to form Dekaranger Robo, which has over 15 points of articulation. Despite lacking the DX toy's detail and lighting effects, this robot is capable of doing a lot of standing poses that its bigger brother can't do. Of course, the ball joints on the hips may be a bit loose, but there's nothing a thin coat of nail polish can't do on a situation like this. Overall, the candy toy Dekaranger Robo is loads of fun, yet light on the wallet. The boxed sets are available at most Japanese supermarkets in the U.S. Detail: B+ Features: A- Articulation: B+

The VF-19P turning red isn't a magical thing. When the poachers nuke the main space whale, it splatters blood all over the VF-19P in battroid mode, which is why parts of it are still colored white in fighter mode.

Earlier tonight on RAW: - Shawn Michaels has been suspended for attacking Triple-H in his match against Shelton Benjamin. Well, that's one egomaniac out of the ring for a while. Unfortunately, Benoit has to defend the title against HHH next week. - I tell you, WWE has no respect for cruiserweights. Batista must've legitimately injured Tajiri. - Matt Hardy ver. 1 was preparing for his match against Val Venis, but Kane appeared on the TitanTron. For a minute, I thought Kane abducted Venis and was gonna have his way on him. - Eugene made his debut. What's with WWE handing out Eugene signs all over the arena?

Dude, you gotta submit that to Engrish.com.

Nice, but I'll take a B-Wing if there is one available.

1. Glue is not necessary in assembling a PG kit, but it helps, as long as you don't glue the servos or joints. 2. PG kits aren't difficult to build. They're just time-consuming due to the hundreds (sometimes thousands) of small parts. 3. PG kits are model kits, so I wouldn't recommend handling them like toys.

Figure 17 - Tsubasa and Hikaru ( フィギュア17 つばさ&ヒカル ) OLM/GENCO/AT-X/Bandai Visual, 2001-2002 AnimeWorks, 2003-2004, 2005 Directed by Naohito Takahashi (Steel Angel Kurumi, Berserk) Running Time: 46 minutes per episode Rated 7-Up (Should be 13-Up) for graphic violence and mature situations. Tsubasa Shiina is a 10-year-old girl who recently moved to Hokkaido to live with her father. In school, she is very quiet and unsociable with her classmates. Then one night, she witnesses a UFO crash in the forest near her home. She rushes to the scene and finds the pilot, codenamed "D.D.", in a barely stable condition. Also in the scene is a Maguar, a hideous alien that hatched aboard D.D.'s ship. As the Maguar is close to taking Tsubasa's life, an alien lifeform fuses with her body to form the mysterious battle armor Figure 17, which shortly destroys the alien threat. The life form takes the name Hikaru and turns into an identical twin of Tsubasa. As time passes, Tsubasa becomes more open to everyone around her, thanks to her new twin sister Hikaru. However, with Maguar eggs scattered all over Hokkaido, their ability to form Figure 17 is needed to keep the alien threat in check until D.D.'s comrades from his home planet arrive. Story: A At first glance, I didn't know what to expect from Figure 17. The first half of episode 1 focuses on Tsubasa and her inexperience with living in a rural environment. Then it suddenly changes when the alien subplot is introduced. Tsubasa and Hikaru become a human-sized Ultraman to fend off the evil aliens, then they help each other cope with everyday life. Still, I find Figure 17 very enjoyable with its remarkable storytelling and likable characters. Of course, each episode runs at roughly 46 minutes, but that means better story and character development. Check it out when you have a chance. Animation: A+ When it comes to quality animation, you won't expect less from GENCO (Azumanga Daioh, Please Teacher!) and Oriental Light and Magic (Steel Angel Kurumi, Comic Party). Figure 17 is filled with rich, lively colors blended with outstanding character designs by Yuriko Chiba (Steel Angel Kurumi, Buttobi CPU/I Dream of Mimi) and some of the best digital effects ever seen. Soundtrack: A A wonderful musical score by Toshihiko Takamizawa and theme songs by The Alfee make the Figure 17 soundrack an add-on to your playlist. Cast Figure 17 features Akiko Yajima (Dorothy in The Big O, Relena in Gundam Wing) as Tsubasa, Fumiko Orikasa (Chise in SaiKano, Pacifica in Scrapped Princess) as Hikaru, Yuko Kato as Kenta, Rikiya Koyama (Jubei in Ninja Scroll: The TV Series) as D.D., Kikuko Inoue (Belldandy in Ah! My Goddess, Mizuho in Please Teacher!/Please Twins) as Orudina, Ryoka Yuzuki (Armitage: Dual-Matrix, Ino in Naruto) as Asuka, Kyoko Tsuruno (Chisa in Fancy Lala) as Sho, Masamichi Sato as Hideo, Jun Mizuki (Naota in FLCL) as Tomoyo, Rie Kugimiya (Alphonse in Fullmetal Alchemist, Cyberdoll Rena in Hand Maid May) as Mina, Yukimasa Obi (Zero in Candidate for Goddess) as Atsushi, and Yui Horie (Re: Cutie Honey, Naru in Love Hina) as Sakura. The English dub by Bang Zoom! Entertainment isn't perfect like the Japanese dialogue, but is tolerable. Featured voices include Kay Jensen (Witch Hunter Robin, Haruko in FLCL) as Tsubasa, Willow Armstrong (Minawa in Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful) as Hikaru, Lex Lang (Space Pirate Captain Herlock The Endless Odyssey, Gineas in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team) as D.D., Mia Bradley as Oldina, Jeff Garcia as Kenta, Julie Anne Taylor (Meia in Vandread, Moe in Omishi Magical Theater Risky Safety) as Asuka, Kirk Thornton (Gato in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083, Bart in Vandread) as Hideo, Dave Wittenberg (Kei in Please Teacher!, Kaoru in Ai Yori Aoshi) as Shinji, and Julie Maddalena (Dita in Vandread, Hikaru in Magic Knight Rayearth) as Sakura. DVD Extras: A- While the first disc just has a textless opening sequence, discs 2-6 feature a behind-the-scenes look at the series, featuring interviews with the staff and cast of Figure 17. The Bottom Line For an anime that not too many people talk about, Figure 17 is an excellent title with its down-to-earth storyline and outstanding animation. Worth adding to your collection. Well, if you noticed episodes 29-30, Nephrite isn't around, but everyone else in the Dark Kingdom is, including Queen Beryl. So it probably has to be Nephrite. Besides, Mio crushed her ice cream because Nephrite might actually have a thing for Endymion.
