  2. Why not make a live-action Lemmings movie?
  3. For a long time, I thought Omar Sharif (Dr. Zhivago, Ali in Lawrence of Arabia) was dead, until my mom bumped into him at a hotel in Egypt about 10 years ago. Was she lucky, as she had told me he was her all-time favorite actor.
  4. Thanks. I got to meet the band after the show, and they're really cool in person. Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet Anette. She reportedly had a cold that night.
  5. Here are some sample videos from their latest album Dark Passion Play: The current lineup with vocalist Anette Olzon is somewhat of a musical cross between ABBA and Metallica. The old lineup with then-vocalist Tarja Turunen mixed classical opera with goth metal (and some Rammstein on the side). Here are some clips of the old lineup: Nemo Wish I Had an Angel Creek Mary's Blood (featuring Native American musician John Two-Hawks) They do covers too: (Gary Moore cover) (Pink Floyd cover) (Megadeth cover)

  9. I didn't know Toynami existed in the '80s.
  10. I had that movie on VHS at one point. It's hugely disappointing due to its bad pacing and obviously low budget. And most of the actors looked nothing like the characters.
  11. Nikki Sixx was once dead for at least five minutes after overdosing on a number of drugs.

  13. Wow...this review thread went way off-topic, especially with the rampant quoting of Megaforce posts.

  16. Crying Freeman ( クライングフリーマン ) August Entertainment, 1995 Not available in the U.S. (for reasons unknown) Directed by Christophe Gans (Silent Hill, Onimusha) Based on the manga by Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub, Lady Snowblood) and Ryoichi Ikegami (Sanctuary, Mai the Psychic Girl) Running Time: 102 minutes Not Rated (suggested R). Contains graphic violence, nudity, sexual situations and profanity. Cast Mark Dacascos (The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, The Chairman in Iron Chef America) as Yo Hinomura/Crying Freeman Julie Condra (Mark's wife) as Emu O'Hara Byron Mann (Ryu in Street Fighter: The Movie, Detective Sung in Dark Angel) as Koh Tchéky Karyo (Bob in La Femme Nikita, Jean Villeneuve in The Patriot) as Detective Netah Rae Dawn Chong (Squeak in The Color Purple, Claudia in Highlander: The Series) as Detective Forge Masaya Kato as Ryuji Hanada Yoko Shimada (Mariko in Shogun, Mieko in The Hunted) as Lady Hanada Mako (1933-2006) (Kanemitsu in RoboCop 3, Nakano in Highlander III: The Sorcerer) as Shido Shimazaki Synopsis One morning, while painting the landscape on the hills of San Francisco, CA, a Canadian woman named Emu O'Hara witnesses the murder of a Yakuza member at the hands of a man who sheds tears after each kill. He introduces himself to her as "Yo." Because of this, Emu is marked by Chinese Mafia rule as Yo's next victim. When she returns to her hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, members of the Shimazaki clan and an Interpol agent named Netah are on the scene in hopes of using Emu as bait to lure in Mr. Yo - infamously known in the crime world as "Crying Freeman." Yo's mission is further complicated when Emu reveals that she is in love with him. As a result, Yo must now protect Emu from both the Shimazaki Clan and "The Sons of the Dragons" - the Chinese Mafia that brainwashed him and trained him to be the perfect assassin. Lowdown Time and time again, it has been proven that manga and anime titles do not translate well in western cinema - especially during the manga/anime boom of the 1990s. During this time, Crying Freeman generated a cult following here in the U.S.; but in France, both the manga and anime were so popular, the people over there decided to adapt it into a live-action film. And so, with the cooperation of the city of Vancouver, BC, Canada, along with Tohokushinsha and Toei Co. Ltd., the French came up with this movie. And what a disappointment it was. First off, certain key characters had to be westernized to keep up with the limited budget while filming in Vancouver - namely Freeman's lover Emu (played by American actress Julie Condra) and the detective Nitta (now Netah, played by French actor Tchéky Karyo with a slurred American accent). Second, many of the actors delivered sub-par performances. Byron Mann, who already crippled his career in Street Fighter: The Movie, gave a really bland portrayal of Freeman's partner Koh. Julie Condra is really hot, but she just can't act. Veteran Japanese actors Yoko Shimada and Masaya Kato and the late Mako practically wasted their time on this film. As for the storyline, it's a disaster. It destroys everything Freeman is about. In the manga, Freeman is supposed to be an indispensable asset to the 108 Dragons, regardless of his mistakes. The movie, however, shows him as expendable to the Sons of the Dragons. In that case, why all the time spent on tattooing and training him in the first place? Is there at least anything good about this film? Actually, there is. The fight scenes are very well choreographed and filmed, and you get to see the potential of Mark Dacascos' martial arts skills outside Only the Strong and Only the Brave. The highlight is Freeman's final battle with the Hanada clan at his home. So overall, Crying Freeman is a disappointing adaptation, but surprisingly entertaining as a martial arts film. 21. Krull ( 銀河伝説クルール ) Columbia Pictures, 1983, 2008 Directed by Peter Yates (Bullitt, Murphy's War) Written by Stanford Sherman (Any Which Way You Can, The Ice Pirates) Running Time: 121 minutes Rated PG for violence. Cast Ken Marshall (Eddington in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) as Prince Colwyn Lysette Anthony as Princess Lyssa Lindsay Crouse (Professor Walsh in Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Princess Lyssa (voice) Trevor Martin as The Beast Freddie Jones (Thufir in Dune, Dallben in The Black Cauldron) as Ynyr Francesca Annis (Lady Jessica in Dune, Jacqueline Kennedy in Onassis: The Richest Man in the World) as Lyssa, Widow of the Web Alun Armstrong (Garrow in Eragon) as Torquil David Battley (1935-2003) as Ergo the Magnificent Bernard Bresslaw (1934-1993) (Varga in Doctor Who) as Rell the Cyclops Liam Neeson (like nobody here knows who he is...) as Kegan John Welsh (1904-1985) as The Seer Graham McGrant as Titch Robbie Coltrane (Zukovsky in GoldenEye, Hagrid in the Harry Potter series) as Rhun Michael Elphick (1946-2002) as Rhun (voice) "This it was given me to know, that many worlds have been enslaved by the Beast and his army, the Slayers. And this too was given me to know, that the Beast would come to our world, the world of Krull, and his Black Fortress would be seen in the land; that the smoke of the burning villages would darken the sky. And the cries of the dying echo through deserted valleys. But one thing I cannot know: whether the prophecy be true, that a girl by ancient name shall be queen, that she shall choose a king, and that together, they shall rule our world, and that their son shall rule the galaxy..." Synopsis In the distant planet of Krull, the evil entity known as the Beast makes his presence known by planting his Black Fortress and invading the lands with his army known as the Slayers. Prince Colwyn and Princess Lyssa are to wed as a means to unite two rival kingdoms against the Beast. The ceremony, however, is disrupted by the Slayers, who abduct Lyssa and leave Colwyn for dead. Aided by the elder warrior Ynyr, Colwyn journeys to retrieve the legendary weapon known as the Glaive. They are soon joined by the magician Ergo, the cyclops Rell, the blind clairvoyant known as the Seer and a band of escaped criminals, as they embark on a perilous adventure to seek the Black Fortress and use the power of the Glaive to stop the Beast from marrying Lyssa and enslaving all of Krull. Lowdown It's a classic tale of good vs. evil - a young hero goes on a quest to rescue his damsel in distress from the villain. The difference is its setting, which takes place in a medieval timeline mixed with futuristic elements. And if this feels like a role-playing game, there's good reason - Krull was originally planned as a Dungeons & Dragons movie. However, during production, the D&D license was dropped. What a shame, as the real Dungeons & Dragons film really sucked. This 1983 film boasts tons of breathtaking set designs, outstanding cinematography, dazzling special effects and an epic orchestral score by James Horner (Braveheart, The Rocketeer). The acting itself is, at most, average. As a matter of fact, a couple of characters had to be re-dubbed with different voices for reasons unknown. Nevertheless, Krull is still a fun movie to watch after all these years. And for under $10, it's a steal. Pick up Krull today. It's one of the best guilty pleasure films ever made. Rating: B+ DVD Extras: B- To celebrate the film's 25th anniversary, Sony Pictures remastered it in High Definition. The result is vibrant picture quality and rich colors not seen since the film was issued on laserdisc ages ago. The Glaive has never been shinier. On the other hand, the extras are limited to two types of commentary - Cast & Crew and Behind-the-Scenes. In addition, the DVD includes a digital copy of the film you can download to your laptop or PSP. "A girl of ancient name shall become queen. She shall choose a king, and together, they shall rule our world. And their son shall rule the galaxy." References The Internet Movie Database Wikipedia
  22. Here's a better idea for a live-action Robotech: Why not employ the director and production team that did the film ? At least HG will save a ton on production costs.
  23. Sorry to hear about your Firehawk.
  24. The fourth installment of The Fast and the Furious film series premieres on Summer 2009. Directed by Justin Lin, who did The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast and Furious reunites the core cast of the first film - Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster. Sung Kang, who appeared in Tokyo Drift, will also make an appearance. Officials at Universal Pictures claim Fast and Furious is the true sequel to the first film. And judging by initial plot summary postings found online, it seems that the disastrous 2003 sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious may be declared non-canon. As for the cars, no doubt that this new film will be filled with candy-coated ricers. All that aside, both the new Nissan GT-R and Hyundai Genesis Coupe are supposedly making their screen debut on the film. What a waste of a perfectly good Buick GNX, though...
