  1. How can you talk about J-Pop without SCANDAL? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOTQ6Bf33tc And here's some AKB48 for good measure.
  2. Ranger Key Series: Gokai Gun (ゴーカイガン) Bandai, 2011 Made in China Requires two AAA batteries (not included) Contents Gokai Gun Gokai Blue Ranger Key The Gokai Gun is the Gokaigers' personal sidearm, resembling a flintlock pistol commonly associated with classic pirates. And for those who want to cosplay as their favorite Gokaiger, this is a must-have accessory. Once you insert the batteries, flip the power switch located on the right side near the barrel and the gun fires up with the Mobirates ringtone. Unlike other sound-emitting toy guns, the Gokai Gun's speaker is where it should be: at the tip of the barrel. This results in a more realistic feel to the sound effects. Pulling the trigger emits one of three different blast sounds. Holding the trigger for two seconds activates the voice of narrator Tomokazu Seki (Yzak in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, Keisuke in Initial D) yelling, "Gokai ni ikuze!" ("Let's Gokai!"). The gun is very well-detailed with a nice glossy red finish topped with a brilliant teal frame surrounding the silver Gokaiger logo and mechanical details on the sides. There's also a nicely-painted red Gokaiger logo with a gold ring on the chamber release button in front of the trigger. It would've been completely perfect if not for the messy sprue flashes on the bottom end of the gun. Included with the Gokai Gun is the Gokai Blue Ranger Key. Most fans would find this odd, as Gokai Blue is more of a swordsman. But since the Gokai Yellow Ranger Key comes with the Gokai Sabre, what can you do? The main feature of the Gokai Gun is its Final Wave mode. Press the chamber release button to pop open the top cylinder. And just like the Mobirates, insert any Ranger Key and half-crank it clockwise. (Unlike the Mobirates, the Gokai Gun, Gokai Saber and Gokai Spear will emit the same sounds, regardless of which Ranger Key is used.) Push the chamber back into position and Seki's voice yells, "FINAL WAAAAAVE!!!" before the gun emits a charging sound. Pulling the trigger changes it into the Gokai Blast sound, which plays every time the trigger is pulled until the Ranger Key is ejected. Although it's designed mainly for kids, adults will have no problem wielding the gun. And unlike the super-deformed Gokai Sabre (and other Super Sentai toy swords released in the past decade), the Gokai Gun looks and functions like the actual prop used in the TV series. Maybe it would've been better if it had some LEDs to further replicate the Final Wave effects, but that's just a minor nitpick. It is my favorite Super Sentai gun next to the D-Magnum set of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger. I tell you, this series has been putting major dents on my bank account. Hopefully, by the end of the year, I'll complete the cosplay set with the Gokai Sabre and the Gokai Buckle. Detail: A- Features: B+ Articulation: N/A
  3. Jani Lane (1964-2011) - Heaven really isn't too far away...
  4. The Hasbro Masterpiece Rodimus is now available at all TRU stores in the Metro Manila area for Php 4,000 (roughly US$90).
  5. According to the Japanese Wikipedia, the movie has the Tupolev Tu-16 and Sukhoi Su-27, but they were portrayed via special effects - which did not blend well with the F-15J live footage. At least they didn't use old American fighters and pretend they were MiGs.
  6. I feel the need, the need... for speed! Oh wait - wrong movie. Best Guy (ベストガイ) is a 1990 film made by Toei in cooperation with the JASDF. Apparently, the title of "Best Guy" is a rank higher than "Top Gun" in Japan. From what I've read, the movie, to no surprise, flopped at the box office and received poor reviews. Still, it's cool to see the F-15J in action for a change. Just by watching this sample clip, one can't help but insert Maverick, Goose and Iceman's random one-liners in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEt3CKfji0M
  7. Ah, on the contrary, Voltron Farce's animation was outsourced to Toon City Animation Studios in the Philippines. Toon City on Facebook Toon City Animation, Inc. Looking for 3D FX Artists
  8. Goddamn, that's horrible. But then again, it's Philippine animation, so I'm not surprised.
  9. "Is there somewhere quieter we can talk? We're inside a chopper! And I can't stop looking at your dick!"
  10. I cooked up a Gunbuster AMV yesterday, but unfortunately, I cannot host it on YouTube or Facebook due to the copyright police. So for those who have MegaUpload accounts, you can download it on the link below. Due to some limitations on my editing software, the video ended up having a jittery framerate. Hopefully, I'll be able to produce a corrected version later this year. EDIT: MegaUpload is dead.
  11. The SDCC exclusive Lion-O figure looks sweet, but I don't see any justification to its price tag.
  12. On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 24: "Foolish Earthlings" (愚かな地球人) Legend of the Week:None Villain of the Week: Action Commander Senden Gokai Color of the Week: None Past Sentai of the Week: Denji Sentai Megaranger (Power Rangers in Space), Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger (Power Rangers Ninja Storm) and Mirai Sentai Timeranger (Power Rangers Time Force) After being jettisoned as garbage by the Zangyack Empire, Jellacit becomes a "pet" of a takoyaki stand owner. Meanwhile, Action Commander Senden attempts to conquer Earth using propaganda. Jellacit from the Carranger tribute episode returns, which means this filler episode displays parts of episode 14's slapstick comedy. Other than that, the Action Commander of the week is typical fodder and the ending is shockingly f*cked up. Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 25: "Pirates and Ninjas" (海賊とニンジャ) The Hurricanegers return, and they want their Ranger Keys back.
  13. After years of ignoring this show, I decided to check out a few notable episodes. Quite frankly, I don't like Tsukasa at all. He is a pompous, arrogant prick who doesn't deserve to be called a Kamen Rider. If there's any reason for me to watch the whole series, it has to be Natsumi-chan. The Decade/Shinkenger crossover in eps. 24-25 actually worked pretty well - mainly because the Shinkengers are a much more interesting bunch of characters and Decade really needed them to make the show watchable. As with current Kamen Rider and Super Sentai shows, both shows had their movies (Kamen Rider Decade: All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker and Samurai Sentai Shinkenger: The Decisive Battle, respectively) play back-to-back in theaters. Here's a clip of the cast members interacting with the audience between the two movies. Kotoha-chan is so kawaii! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIUcRNSDomI Perhaps the other saving grace of Decade is the return of Tetsuo Kurata as Kotaro Minami/Kamen Rider BLACK/Kamen Rider BLACK RX in eps. 26-27. He hasn't aged well, but it's great to see the original BLACK suit back in action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKNidQZ8aVI
  14. As usual, Hot Toys spared no expense on making their 1/6 Captain America figure as film-accurate as possible.
  15. No Man's Land Orion Pictures, 1987 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Home Video, 2003 Directed by Peter Werner (Moonlighting, Call to Glory) Running Time: 107 minutes Rated R for graphic violence and profanity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB-JbooeUtI Cast Charlie Sheen (who can't find a job these days) as Ted Varrick D. B. Sweeney (Lt. Phil Lowenthal in Memphis Belle, Doug in The Cutting Edge) as Benjamin "Benjy" Taylor Lara Harris as Ann Varrick Randy Quaid (Tim Daland in Days of Thunder, Russell Casse in Independence Day) as Lt. Vincent Bracey Bill Duke (Mac in Predator, Trask in X-Men: The Last Stand) as Malcolm Synopsis Rookie cop Benjy Taylor is assigned to go undercover and investigate a string of Porsche thefts and the murder of a detective, with millionaire and Porsche enthusiast Ted Varrick as the prime suspect. Using his extensive mechanical know-how on Porsches, Benjy becomes close friends with Ted and becomes romantically involved with Ted's sister Ann. He is, however, torn between his friendship and his mission. Benjy: [looking at a Ferrari] "How about this one?" Ted: "Italian trash. Besides, I only steal Porsches." Lowdown Many critics have claimed that The Fast and the Furious is a ripoff of the surfing movie Point Break. What they failed to mention is that there was an earlier movie that The Fast and the Furious ripped off: No Man's Land. Let's face it - aside from a few differences, both movies have the exact same premise: an undercover cop investigating a string of thefts involving cars. But unlike The Fast and the Furious, No Man's Land is a Porsche fanatic's wet dream (and a nightmare for some). The first-generation Porsche 911 (1964-1989) has the advantage of being an immortal classic, unlike the throwaway ricers of The Fast and Furious film series. It never has and will never go out of style, even if this movie reeks of '80s retro. And while the car chase scene involving a Porsche and a third-generation Camaro is short (and somewhat implausible for the Camaro to catch up, according to some car enthusiasts), it is very intense - with absolutely no need of CGI crap to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The car scenes are good, but what about the story and characters? Well, it's no different from The Fast and the Furious. You have your cookie-cutter good guy and bad guy characters with generic acting. All of these sub-plots of grand theft auto and murders seem like afterthoughts. And this may sound wrong, but Lara Harris looks like a female Steve Buscemi. In short, the film is not an award-winner of sorts. Just a fairly good rental for the casual car nut and something to keep the hardcore Porsche enthusiasts busy. Rating: C References The Internet Movie Database Wikipedia
  16. Actually, Nolan would've made the Riddler perfect on screen by simply casting Guy Pearce. All Pearce has to do is incorporate elements of his character from Memento.
  17. Let's not forget that Luke Skywalker was trespassing in the Wampa's property.
  18. Francesco Quinn, Voice of Dino, Passes Away - Very sad news, especially since the movie came out just last month. R.I.P. Francesco.
  19. Julie Newmar is still the best Catwoman.
  20. Here's a teaser pic of my SRC Shinkenoh from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger.
  21. +1 on that. You can't just put an animal as the bad guy. Besides, he was provoked into eating in that movie. What next - the two lions in The Ghost and the Darkness?
  22. Sebastian Shaw (X-Men: First Class) "We are the children of the atom. Radiation gave birth to mutants. What will kill the humans will only make us stronger." The former Nazi scientist and Hellfire Club leader is undoubtedly the most evil of all villains in the X-Men film series. He singlehandedly manifests Magneto's angst and hate by killing his mother and subjecting him to numerous experiments. Two decades later, he manipulates the U.S. and Soviet union in an attempt to trigger World War III and wipe out humanity for mutantkind to take over.
