Nope. It's cheaper to get a completely new laptop than to repair one that old. -
On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 46: "Hero Eligibility" (ヒーロー合格) Legend of the Week: Kazuki Yao (Dark Schneider in Bastard!!, Iketani in Initial D) as Ninjaman (voice) Villain of the Week: Action Commander Juju Gokai Color of the Week: None Past Super Sentai of the Week: Ninja Sentai Kakuranger (Mighty Morphin' Alien Rangers) and Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan (too '80s for Power Rangers fans) A week has passed since Ninjaman moved into the Gokai Galleon to see if the Gokaigers are worthy of the Kakurangers' greater power, but no progress has been made among the crew members. But as the Gokaigers continue their quest, Action Commander Juju casts a spell on Doc, Gai and a few bystanders, sending their hatred out of control. Well, it's about time things started picking up, after a mediocre recap episode. Those aching for some ninjutsu action will be pleased by the Gokaigers using the Kakuranger suits and Ninjaman becoming a giant as the Kakurangers' greater power. It's just too bad that Tsuruhime's guest appearance was only for the last minute of last week's episode. And on that bombshell, the legend tributes come to a close. Now for the next step, which is to retrieve the last five greater powers from Basco. Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 47: "The End of Betrayal" (裏切りの果て) The final confrontation between the Gokaigers and Basco ta Jolokia begins with the privateer turning his back on his own pet Sally.

Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown Stage 6 Films/Mandalay Pictures/Sony Pictures Entertainment, 2011 Directed by Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite, Spawn) Running Time: 103 minutes Not Rated. Contains graphic martial arts violence, nudity, sexual situations and profanity. Cast Michael Jai White (Blood and Bone, Jax in Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) as Case Walker Dean Geyer (former Australian Idol finalist) as Mike Stokes Alex Meraz (Paul in The Twilight Saga) as Zack Gomes Todd Duffee (ex-UFC fighter) as Tim Newhouse Scottie Epstein (another MMA fighter) as Justin Epstein Evan Peters (Todd in Kick-Ass) as Max Cooperman (reprising his role from Never Back Down 1) Jillian Murray (Liara in Mass Effect 2) as Eve Laura Cayouette as Vale Lyoto Machida (former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion) as himself "Big" John McCarthy (UFC head referee) as himself Synopsis Four troubled youths - Mike, a college wrestler who resents his father for leaving his mother; Zack, a former boxer who is forced to retire after sustaining a torn retina; Tim, an MMA fighter struggling to help his mother make ends meet; and Justin, a comic book store clerk who is frequently bullied - undergo training from former MMA star Case Walker, with three of them aiming to participate in an upcoming underground fighting event called "The Beatdown". However, the event is jeopardized when one of them sets up Case, who is on parole after having spent time in jail. Lowdown Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown marks Michael Jai White's directorial debut, and it completely makes the first film tap out. Why? Because unlike the first film, this one has more emphasis on MMA and features actual MMA fighters. I've said before on my previous review of Never Back Down that choreographing mixed martial arts fights is silly and just takes away the realism, but here, the fights are actually well-rehearsed with proper camera angles to show how to apply and reverse holds. The film also shows how various arts such as jiu-jitsu and capoeira blend with MMA. White's fight scenes are also superbly shot, despite being pretty minimal. In a nutshell, Never Back Down 2 is a good rental for those who want a decent MMA film. Just don't mind the generic main characters and watch the fights. Super Robot Chogokin Shinkenoh (スーパーロボット超合金 シンケンオー) Bandai, 2011 Made in China シンケンオー天下統一! "Shinkenoh, Tenkatoitsu!" ("Shinkenoh, United Under Providence!") Contents Shinkenoh (シンケンオー) figure Extra hands (x4) Daishinken (ダイシンケン) sword Hiden Shield (秘伝シールド) Splitting "Slash" (斬) effect parts with stand The first Super Sentai robot to get the Super Robot Chogokin treatment, Shinkenoh is the Shinkengers' primary mecha - formed from the five giant animal Origami. As with all SRC figures, Shinkenoh is non-transformable, but it boasts diecast metal parts, extreme detail and articulation not found in the Deluxe or Minipla versions. The sculpt makes the figure very close to resembling the robot suit used in the TV series while retaining characteristics of the DX toy such as folded hinges and some of the animal heads tucked in. The figure has over 25 points of articulation, resulting in all kinds of crazy poses you can think of. Almost no detail is spared on this figure, with every panel having a different texture like the DX toy. And like most SRC figures, Shinkenoh is compatible with any Tamashii Stage display stand. Shinkenoh's sword Daishinken is finely crafted with a metallic finish and an illustration of the five Origami etched on the blade. The Hiden Disk clips on the back or left shoulder, or can be held on the left hand. The figure's double ball-jointed shoulders enable it to hold the Daishinken with both arms for the Daishinken Samurai-giri (ダイシンケン侍斬り) finisher. and to fully replicate the finisher, the figure comes with a display stand that holds a sign that reads "斬" (slash) and can be posed to split the kanji. Unfortunately, for the retail price of 5,040 yen, that's all you're getting in the package. Gokaioh and Dekaranger Robo have more bells and whistles (as well as bonus effect parts for pre-ordered units) at the same price. As a result, many online retailers such as HobbyLink Japan have slashed the price to 4,080 yen. If you can find a better deal than that, get it. Otherwise, if you love giant robots and samurai, then don't hesitate to pick up Shinkenoh. Detail: A- Features: B- Articulation: A

And now for the other side of this review: Power Rangers Samurai Toei Company, Ltd./Saban Brands, 2011-2012 Based on Samurai Sentai Shinkenger by Toei Company, Ltd. Running Time: 22 minutes per episode Number of Episodes: 40 Rated TV-Y7FV for martial arts violence. "Centuries ago in Japan, Nighlok monsters invaded our world. But samurai warriors defeated them with power symbols passed down from parent to child. Today, the evil Nighlok have risen once again and plan to flood the Earth. Luckily, a new generation of heroes stand in their way. They are the Power Rangers Samurai." "Go Go Samurai!" Cast Alex Heartman as Jayden/Red Samurai Ranger Najee De-Tiege as Kevin/Blue Samurai Ranger Erika Fong as Mia/Pink Samurai Ranger Hector David, Jr. as Mike/Green Samurai Ranger Brittany Anne Pirtle as Emily/Yellow Samurai Ranger Steven Skyler as Antonio/Gold Samurai Ranger Rene Naufahu (Emperor Grumm in Power Rangers S.P.D.) as Mentor Ji Paul Schrier as Farkas "Bulk" Bulkmeier (reprising his previous role from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers) Felix Ryan as Spike Skullovitch Jeff Szusterman as Master Xandred (voice) and Octoroo (voice) Ricardo Medina, Jr. (Cole/Red Ranger in Power Rangers Wild Force) as Deker Kate Elliott as Dayu (voice) Derek Judge (Blueheads in Power Rangers S.P.D.) as Serrator (voice) "Rangers Together, Samurai Forever!" Lowdown Okay, I'll make no bones about it - I've hated Power Rangers ever since Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers hit the airwaves back in 1993. And it's not just because I grew up watching original Super Sentai titles such as Choudenshi Bioman and Hikari Sentai Maskman. Sure, there's the ever-catchy theme song, but the acting by the Power Rangers cast members is horrible, the scripts are cheesy in a bad way and the fight scenes just don't match up with those of the original Japanese footage. I've tried to give at least one season a chance, and that was Power Rangers S.P.D. in 2005. Unfortunately, it pissed me off more than anything with its bastardization of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger's elements. So when Haim Saban bought back the rights to the franchise from Buena Vista Entertainment in 2010, I thought perhaps he would give it a fresh start with Samurai Sentai Shinkenger - which is undoubtedly one of the best Super Sentai titles ever made. I thought wrong. Power Rangers Samurai is a really bad attempt at being a faithful adaptation of Shinkenger. The main problem with that is the fact that nearly all of Shinkenger's elements are culturally impossible to simply port over to a western environment. First off, why are these gaikokujin samurai in the first place? You can come up with a thousand theories on why Americans are carrying around Japanese mythical powers passed down for generations, but I just don't see it. The premise of a samurai lord and his vassals works in Japanese cinema, but in an American setting, it doesn't make sense. Some characters had to be changed to better suit a western audience; most notable is Kevin the Blue Samurai Ranger, who is a former Olympic swimmer instead of a kabuki actor. As a result of this alteration, at least one episode loses a punchline that was originally delivered by Shinken Blue. Another example is Antonio the Gold Samurai Ranger, who is simply a fish vendor with no ambition in life compared to Shiken Gold. Another problem lies in one of Shinkenger's most important elements: the kuroko. These stagehands in black are the lifeblood of the Shinkengers' operations, from setting up the battlefield to simple household chores. In Power Rangers Samurai, however, they don't exist, making one wonder who the hell is helping Mentor Ji clean up after the Rangers? And then there's the acting. As I mentioned earlier, acting is usually horrible and the script is egregiously childish in every Power Rangers series, but this lineup makes you grind your teeth with them just reading the cue cards and hoping no one would notice. The characters themselves are pathetic - Jayden makes The Fuccons look lively with his wooden acting, Kevin has no personality, Mia is pretty boring, Mike is a complete dork, Emily is cute but too "blonde" for her role, Mentor Ji just stands there chanting philosophical phrases and Antonio is undoubtedly one of the worst actors ever. Oh yeah, and just to entice the old fans, Bulk returns to the show and is teamed up with Spike, the son of his best friend Skull. Their slapstick vignettes are lame as ever. So once again, it'll be a long time before I find a Power Rangers title I can actually tolerate. Maybe their future adaptation of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger won't be so bad, I hope. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been restyled with the corporate grille design. In addition, the engines have been tweaked to generate more power (271 bhp for the 4-cylinder and 345 bhp for the V6) and there's the new 8-speed automatic transmission. Last year's version still looks better, though.

Saban has not yet made any confirmation on adapting Gokaiger into the Power Rangers' 20th anniversary title, but according to Hyper Hobby magazine, Toei is already working on it. The Legend War is being re-shot minus the teams before Zyuranger (Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers); it is unknown, however, if Dairanger will be omitted as well, as Kiba Ranger (White Ranger) was the only suit used in season 2 of MMPR. There's also the issue of people who became different Rangers through the years. Tommy Oliver (played by Jason David Frank) alone has been five different Rangers (Green Ranger in MMPR1, White Ranger in MMPR2 & 3, Zeo Ranger V in Zeo, Red Turbo Ranger in Turbo and Black Dino Ranger in Dino Thunder). The other remaining issue is the fate of Tensou Sentai Goseiger. Whether or not the series will be adapted is still in the air. Toei to Re-Shoot Power Rangers 20th Anniversary Legend War

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (侍戦隊シンケンジャー) TV Asahi/Toei Company, Ltd., 2009-2010 Currently being exploited by Saban Brands as Power Rangers Samurai Directed by Shōjirō Nakazawa, Satoshi Morota, Noboru Takemoto, Katsuya Watanabe, Hiroyuki Kato and Takao Nagaishi Written by Yasuko Kobayashi (I My Me! "Tenkagomen no Samurai Sentai... Shinkenger, Mairu!!" ("The Samurai Sentai authorized by divine providence... Shinkenger, going forth!!") Synopsis For hundreds of years, the samurai of the Shiba House have protected mankind from a band of evil spirits known as the Gedoushuu. Several years after being sealed away, Doukoku Chimatsuri sends his Ayakashi and Nanashi army to once again wreak havoc on Earth, causing the combined grief and suffering of mankind to slowly raise the levels of the Sanzu River for the Gedoushuu to stage a full-scale assault on humanity. To combat this threat, Takeru Shiba, the 18th Head of the Shiba House, must assemble all of his vassals to form the Shinkengers. Lowdown Not too long after Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger got me back into Super Sentai, I decided to check out the back catalog to see what I missed after Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger. And with that, I discovered a new favorite in Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. Shinkenger takes all of the great parts of Super Sentai and mixes it with Japanese culture and epic Samurai Cinema, resulting in a show that is uniquely Japanese with its excellent array of characters from the firm leader Takeru to the extremely kawaii Kotoha-chan to the annoying yet badass Genta. No doubt that the production team worked really hard on developing this series, having researched on Japanese mythology to flesh out the show's villains and mystical elements. Originally, I was not impressed by the suit designs, but after watching a few episodes, they grew on me quickly. The Shinkenger suits take a very minimalist approach to the Super Sentai style while incorporating traditional Samurai elements at the same time. Plus, the helmet designs are based on the kanji of the members' mojikara (or the natural element of their abilities). Having them armed with Shinkenmaru katanas results in some of the most awesome sword fights you'll ever see. As for the mecha, the show has its share of overkill and clusterfrakks, but it all comes down to Shinkenoh, the Shinkengers' main unit and undoubtedly one of the most badass giant robot designs ever made. And let's not forget the music. The series has a remarkable array of BGM tracks, but they're all topped by the badass opening theme by Psychic Lover (Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, Witchblade). In short, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger is undoubtedly one of the greatest Super Sentai titles ever made and a milestone in Japanese entertainment. It's just too bad Saban smeared all over this epic with their Power Rangers version. Tekken: Blood Vengeance (鉄拳 ブラッド・ベンジェンス) Digital Frontier/Namco Pictures/Asmik-Ace Entertainment, 2011 Bandai Entertainment, 2011 Directed by Yoichi Mori Based upon characters from the best-selling Tekken video game series by Namco Bandai Running Time: 92 minutes Rated PG-13 for martial arts violence and mild language. Cast (Japanese) Maaya Sakamoto (Hitomi in Escaflowne, Lunamaria in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny) as Ling Xiaoyu Yuki Matsuoka (Osaka in Azumanga Daioh, Nana in Elfen Lied) as Alisa Bosconovitch Mamoru Miyano (Light in Death Note, Setsuna in Mobile Suit Gundam 00) as Shin Kamiya Ishhin Chiba (Chiba in Detective Conan) as Jin Kazama Masanori Shinohara as Kazuya Mishima Unshou Ishizuka (Guld in Macross Plus, Jet Black in Cowboy Bebop) as Heihachi Mishima Akeno Watanabe (Witch Hunter Robin, Chachamaru in Mahou Sensei Negima!) as Anna Williams Atsuko Tanaka (Motoko in Ghost in the Shell, Claudette in Queen's Blade) as Nina Wiliams Ryotaru Okiayu (Treize in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Rai in Super Robot Taisen OG) as Lee Chaolan Hidenari Ugaki (Argo in Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Fujimasa in Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki) as Ganryu Taketora (Gouki/Akuma in Street Fighter IV) as Panda Cast (English) Carrie Keranen (Cutie Honey, Caska in Berserk) as Ling Xiaoyu Christina Vee (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Kanaria in Rozen Maiden) as Alisa Bosconovitch David Vincent (Van in GUNxSWORD, Assassin in Fate/stay night) as Shin Kamiya Darren Daniels as Jin Kazama Kyle Hebert (Gohan in Dragon Ball Z, Ryu in Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind) as Kazuya Mishima Jamieson Price (Chad in Bleach, Duke Red in Metropolis) as Heihachi Mishima Tara Platt (Barasuishou in Rozen Maiden, Temari in Naruto) as Anna Williams Mary McGlynn (Motoko in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Julia in Cowboy Bebop) as Nina Williams and Mokujin Kaiji Tang (Shiro in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha) as Lee Chaolan George C. Cole (Burning in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, Jan in Flag) as Ganryu Synopsis High school student Ling Xiaoyu is recruited by Anna Williams of G Corporation to transfer to Kyoto University and gather information on a student named Shin Kamiya. Meanwhile, Jin Kazama, the current head of the Mishima Zaibatsu, sends Alisa Bosconovitch to the university for the same mission. Though they do not know each other's true motives, Xiaoyu and Alisa become close friends. However, their friendship is put to the test when Shin is captured by an unknown assailant. Story: D+ To say that Tekken: Blood Vengeance is better than the live-action Tekken movie is like saying the sun rises and sets everyday. But that's about it, as the storyline is nothing but filler between the games Tekken 5 and Tekken 6. It's obvious that the production team spent more time on the artwork than the story, as the pacing is shoddy and Shin is simply wasted throughout the film. And for a fighting game movie, there really isn't a lot of fighting, especially when the two main characters have only one match. The final battle between the Mishima triad (Heihachi, Kazuya and JIn) feels forced and has practically nothing to do with the fighting element of Tekken. Given that it was written by Dai Sato, who was best known for writing episodes of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Cowboy Bebop, you would've expected something within the same caliber. Animation: B+ Without a doubt, the CG animation is pure eye candy, but it's no different from the cutscenes of your typical PS2 or PS3-era Tekken video game. And just like Resident Evil: Degeneration, you have the sudden urge to pick up your game controller. The character designs are typical Tekken fare, but for a robot, Alisa looks livelier than most of the characters. Soundtrack: C The film uses a generic synthesizer orchestral BGM, which is hardly noticeable throughout the film. It's pretty disappointing that Namco Bandai did not use any techno music that's synonymous with the game series. Sub vs. Dub The English dub by Bang Zoom! Entertainment is fairly competent, but their scripts do not match the characters' mouth movements, resulting in a pretty cheesy dub presentation that's not as funny as a cheap kung-fu movie. The Bottom Line It's Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children all over again with all filler and no punch. Stick to the video games instead. Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
areaseven replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
After over 15 years of avoiding it, I decided to bite the bullet and watch Escape from L.A. Now I wish I hadn't. The movie takes everything that made Escape from New York an epic masterpiece and threw it out the window. Aside from the updated opening theme song, there is nothing redeeming about this movie. The secondary villain is a cheap Che Guevara wannabe, while the primary villain is just meh. Even Bruce Campbell's short appearance as the Surgeon General of Beverly Hills can't save this trainwreck. No wonder I had a hard time convincing my former roommate to watch Escape from New York over a decade ago, as he got burned by Escape from L.A. -
The anniversary thing isn't the only reason why Saban would skip Goseiger. It's also supposedly the challenge of adapting Goseiger without offending any religious fanatic, as the main characters are "angels". Before casting calls for this year were halted, there was a rumor that the PR version of Goseiger would be called Power Rangers Mega Force with a script adaptation of Denji Sentai Megaranger to replace all angel references to the series. So far, these are just rumors. We'll have to wait until Saban makes an official announcement. In the meantime, I'll be looking forward to Go-Busters later next month.

Figuarts line. As with Gokai Red, both Gokai Blue and Gokai Green feature the same amount of detail and articulation, with glossy helmets and bodies in a matte finish. Strangely enough, the gold accents on Gokai Blue are not as bright as those on the other Gokaigers. Alongside the standard accessories of extra hands, a Mobirates phone, two Ranger Keys, a Gokai Gun and a Gokai Sabre, each figure comes with their gimmick parts set. Gokai Blue has two unique Gokai Sabres: one double-bladed and the other triple-bladed. This allows collectors to replicate the scene in episode 4 where he borrowed all of his shipmates' Gokai Sabres to execute the Final Wave Five Blade Style Blue Slash. Unlike the regular Gokai Sabre, the Gokai Cylinders on these units are easier to remove. Gokai Green comes with Navi, the Gokaigers' robot parrot navigator. He has articulation on the head and wings, though the ball joints on the wings are very loose. And just like Gokai Red, pre-orders of Gokai Blue and Gokai Green come with their respective Gokai Darin units. These are ship's wheels with seats that are colored to match the corresponding Gokaiger. Both figures fit perfectly on their seats and controls, and the wheels allow closed Ranger Keys to be inserted in the center. As usual, Bandai has delivered yet another excellent pair of action figures for this series. Now to wait for Gokai Yellow, Gokai Pink and Gokai Silver to complete the set. Tell me about it. I'm having too much fun with Gokaiger. Hope this series doesn't suffer from the Goseiger curse, wherein it fails to live up to the expectations of the previous show (like Tensou Sentai Goseiger did after Samurai Sentai Shinkenger). As a matter of fact, rumor has it that Saban will not adapt Goseiger at all and skip to Gokaiger for the next Power Rangers series.

On this week's episode of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 45: "A Confused Ninja" (慌てん坊忍者) Legends of the Week: Kazuki Yao (Judau in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Smith in Gunbuster) as Ninjaman (voice) and Satomi Hirose as Tsuruhime Villain of the Week: None Gokai Color of the Week: Blue Past Super Sentai of the Week: None After remembering a clue left by Domon in the Timeranger tribute episode, the Gokaigers return to Negakure Temple and free Ninjaman from the jar he was encased in for the past few years. As he was not part of the Legendary War, Ninjaman is briefed on the events from the war to the Gokaigers' quest on Earth to search for the Greatest Treasure in the Universe. However, he refuses to hand over the greater power of the Kakurangers to the crew. The much-anticipated Ninja Sentai Kakuranger (Mighty Morphin' Alien Rangers) tribute has begun; unfortunately, it's nothing but a mere series recap. Not a good way to start the year. Hopefully, things pick up on part 2 next week. Next week on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Episode 46: "Hero Eligibility" (ヒーロー合格) The Gokaigers must now prove themselves to Ninjaman to be worth of the greater power of the Kakurangers.
