  1. To celebrate The Rock's 8th WWE Championship reign, here's The Great One doing yet another concert: The Rock Concert Returns at the 20th Anniversary of RAW
  2. I actually watched Van Helsing for the first time last night. I don't know if it's the outdated CG, the pretty bland storyline or the actors' attempt at emulating the vintage style of horror acting, but it was overall a very dull film. So yeah, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is so much better. P.S.: Still love what the producers did with the milk bottles in the beginning of the movie.
  3. The hate is strong on this one. Whatever. It's still a fun movie. Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 15% - "Alternately bloody and silly, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters fails as both a fantasy adventure and as a parody of same." And here are a couple of reviews:
  4. I still consider the first movie to be one of the worst adaptations ever made, but I'll go ahead and watch Retaliation in hopes of fixing the mess of the first, regardless of how much of a train wreck it will be by itself.
  5. Just finished watching this movie, and I have to say that it's a complete guilty pleasure film. Complete cheesiness mixed with mindless blood and gore. It's the perfect movie to check your brain at the front door and simply have fun.
  6. For the past five or so years, Honda has been teasing us with talks about the next-generation NSX. The biggest reveal at that point was Tony Stark's NSX Convertible concept in The Avengers. Last week, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Honda unwrapped the latest concept design of the new Acura NSX. The new car will be powered by a mid-mounted, direct injection V6 engine mated to Acura's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive) system. Power through the engine and two electric motors on the front wheel results in AWD handling and improved efficiency. Acura is expected to start production on the new NSX in 2015 at a new plant in Marysville, Ohio. 2013 Acura NSX Concept Meanwhile, what would Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno do for the first new NSX?
  7. Well, we also have Oblivion and After Earth this year. Though their plots are different, the premises are similar. In Olympus Has Fallen, Morgan Freeman plays the Speaker of the House. When the White House is taken over, he becomes acting President throughout the rest of the film, so he's more or less reprising his role.
  8. Nah. People these days expect action movies to be like The Bourne Identity, with their cerebral plot twists and equally nauseating camera work to hide imperfections in the special effects or fight choreography (or to simply piss off viewers). Or maybe something like The Fast and the Furious films, with their flashy colors and equally annoying choice of background music plus whatever CG effects they can throw in.
  9. Throughout all this mess, isn't The Asylum working on something to capitalize on these two movies like they usually do?
  10. According to Box Office Mojo, Van Helsing made over US$300 million worldwide - almost twice its US$160 million budget. However, it's considered a domestic flop, as it only made US$120 million in the U.S. And to no surprise, the critics hated it (23% on Rotten Tomatoes). So yeah, unless Universal is intent on making a better version, why bother?
  11. I might as well post this here instead of starting a new thread about it (for now). Last year, Universal Pictures signed Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman to a two-year contract. The screenwriting duo behind Transformers and Star Trek will be working on the reboots of Van Helsing and The Mummy. Tom Cruise has been attached to the Van Helsing reboot as the star and co-producer. In addition, Rupert Sanders, fresh from his directorial debut with Snow White and the Huntsman, is in talks to direct the new Van Helsing. Orci, Kurtzman Sign Two-Year Universal Deal BREAKING: Rupert Sanders Circling Universal's Tom Cruise-Starring Van Helsing
  12. Personally, I think the new American Airlines livery is pretty 'meh', considering I've never flown with them in my entire life. It is bland compared to the iconic "silver bird" livery they used over the past four decades, but it's not as bad as United Airlines' current "identity crisis" livery.
  13. This year, we'll have not one but two films with the exact same premise: terrorists raiding the White House and holding the President hostage, and one guy going Die Hard to save the day. First off, coming March 22 is Olympus Has Fallen, directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, King Arthur) and starring Gerard Butler (Leonidas in 300), Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Dark Knight), Morgan Freeman (like nobody here knows who he is...), Rick Yune (Johnny Tran in The Fast and the Furious) and Ashley Judd (Charlene in Heat). In this film, a North Korean terrorist group led by Kang (Yune) takes over the White House and threatens to kill the President (Eckhart) if the government does not meet their demands. Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Butler) goes on a one-man mission to take out all of the terrorists and save the President. Then on June 28 is White House Down, directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Stargate), written by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Rundown) and starring Channing Tatum (Magic Mike, Duke in G.I. Joe), Jamie Foxx (Ray, Django Unchained), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel in The Dark Knight, Elizabeth in Donnie Darko) Jason Clarke (Dan in Zero Dark Thirty) and James Woods (Mike Toreno in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas). In this film, a paramilitary group led by Stenz (Clarke) takes over the White House and threatens to kill the President (Foxx) if the government does not meet their demands. Secret Service Agent John Cale (Tatum) goes on a one-man mission to take out all of the terrorists and save the President. Of these two movies, which do you predict will be better?
  14. Any comment on the most recent airline logo change? American Airlines Rebrand
  15. Remember the Lotus on steroids that Hennessey cooked up last year? Here's the Hennessey Venom GT setting a new Guinness World Record for fastest accelerating car.
  16. All I wanted from The Last Stand was a simple action movie, but it delivered more than that in spades. It's got a huge body count, non-stop carnage, white-knuckled car chases and Jaimie Alexander . All is right with the world.
  17. Flight Club (23 December 2012) - Remember flying small balsa wood planes back in the old days? May attempts to re-live those glory days by flying a balsa wood replica of the Slingsby Swallow across the Bristol Channel (as the English Channel was off-limits at the time).
