  1. Just finished watching this film. It's pretty good, though it's far from what most viewers expected. It adds a lot of alien and sci-fi elements not seen in the previous movies, while at the same time, expands on the human element of Kal-El. Russell Crowe's portrayal of Jor-El is somewhat opposite of Marlon Brando's version; while Brando has told Kal-El never to interfere with Earth matters, Crowd tells him he is destined to inspire the human race. Amy Adams is by far the most energetic actress to play Lois Lane. Michael Shannon lacks Terence Stamp's charisma as General Zod, but makes up for it with brute force. Perhaps the weakest link in the film is Henry Cavill. While it's expected that he'll never top Christopher Reeve, Cavill is just too stiff in his acting, resulting in a somewhat lifeless portrayal of Superman. Hans Zimmer knows he can't top John Williams, but his orchestral score is adequate, though it's mostly rehashes of his works from Inception. Overall, it's nowhere close to the Richard Donner films, but it's still a very good superhero movie.
  2. Faster than a speeding bullet? Probably not. More powerful than a locomotive? Least likely. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Don't think so. Nevertheless, Chrysler brings you the one-off Ram Man of Steel Power Wagon. The cross-promotional campaign includes a special print ad illustrated by Superman: Earth One's Shane Davis. 2013 Dodge Ram Truck Man of Steel
  3. For the first time ever, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger share top-billing in one movie. Escape Plan has them both trying to figure out how to break out of the world's most secure prison. The film premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 18 and in the Philippines on October 9; it opens on October 18 in the U.S. Official Site
  4. On this episode of Hikounin Sentai Akibaranger Season 2: Episode 8: "Delusional Beauty War" (妄想美闘) Special Guests: Yoshinori Okamoto and Seiji Takaiwa (veteran suit actors) The Akibarangers begin their search for General Two all over Akihabara. Meanwhile, General Two upgrades his last monster into a male form with the fighting abilities of past Super Sentai villains. One thing you must admire about this series is its appreciation of people behind the scenes. Here, we learn about Yoshinori Okamoto, who portrayed many of the Super Sentai villains of the 1980s. Just as Kazuo Niibori dedicated his career to making the best Super Sentai Reds, Okamoto complemented the scene with the most formidable arch-rivals. Because of this, we're treated to some really good - but otherwise hilarious - fight scenes between Super Akiba Red and this week's monster. And as an incentive for fans to buy the new S.H. Figuarts Akibarangers, they show off their new Outrageous Bazooka. Next time, on Hikounin Sentai Akibaranger Season 2: Episode 9: "Delusion Number Two" (妄想弐號) The Akibarangers and General Two square off once again. Good boys and girls shouldn't watch.
  5. Marvel Heroes is a free-to-play MMORPG for Windows and Mac by Gazillion Entertainment and Secret Identity Studios. It opened on June 4. Here's the awesome cinematic opening featuring Uatu the Watcher vs. Doctor Doom. Official Site
  6. Quite possibly the best promo this year.
  7. Despite having collected US$150 million at the box office, it looks like this film's marketing was an Epic Fail. Epic landed in 4th place on opening weekend, displaying an example of bad timing as Furious 6 and The Hangover Part III opened on the same day and Star Trek Into Darkness continues to rake in ticket sales. Critics have not been kind to the film, either, as it's rated at 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. Some critics have deemed Epic to be too derivative of FernGully: The Last Rainforest. Such a shame, as it did look good on the trailers.
  8. Despicable Me 2 is the upcoming sequel to Illumination Entertainment and Universal Studios' 2010 animated blockbuster Despicable Me. Returning to their voice roles are Steve Carell (Andy in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Michael in The Office) as Gru, Russell Brand (Katy Perry's ex-husband) as Dr. Nefario, Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly) as Margo, Dana Geier as Edith, Elsie Fisher as Agnes, and director Pierre Coffin as the Minions. Kristen Wiig (Vicki St. Elmo in MacGruber, Ruffnut in How to Train Your Dragon) also returns, but plays a new character named Lucy Wilde. Joining the cast are Benjamin Bratt (Det. Curtis in Law & Order), Steve Coogan (Octavius in Night at the Museum 1-2), and Ken Jeong (Leslie Chow in The Hangover I-III,Jerry Wang in Transformers: Dark of the Moon). Al Pacino was originally cast in the film, but was eventually replaced by Bratt at the last minute The film premieres on June 12 at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival before a wide release on July 3. 9. It looks like M. Night Shyalaman should quit directing. Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 12% - After Earth is dull, ploddingly paced exercise in sentimental sci-fi -- and the latest setback for director M. Night Shyamalan's once-promising career.
  10. As this week's episode of The John Cena Show was in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, it was "Bret Hart Appreciation Night".
  11. For a while, TNA had the potential to give WWE a run for its money. It had all the new stars and some of the best in-ring action with the X Division. Then it all went down south when they brought in Hogan and Bischoff. Because of those two, all the younger talent were forced to job to the veterans. It's become WCW all over again - but with a lower budget. And yes, the whole Aces & Eights gimmick needs to go. What's the point of having a biker gang whose members can't even ride bikes?
  12. Walt Disney Pictures announced that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is in the works. Johnny Depp has already confirmed his return as Captain Jack Sparrow; how much he'll earn for this is currently unknown. Geoffrey Rush will also reprise his role as Captain Hector Barbossa. For this project, Disney hands the director's chair to Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, the duo behind the Academy Award nominated film Kon-Tiki. For those unfamiliar with that movie, watch the trailer below: The new Pirates film has a projected release date of July 7, 2017. Raise a Black Flag! A New Pirates of the Caribbean Film Is Coming Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Gets Kon-Tiki Directing Team
  13. I think I picked the wrong time to watch wrestling again after a six-year hiatus. I swore to myself that it was over for me after the Benoit incident, but I decided to give the WWE another chance this year. And unfortunately, things have gotten worse because of this PG era. Worse is that the WWE won't do anything about Cena because he's raking in the sponsors. He can't turn heel because of his affiliation with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. And he won't drop the title right now because Ryback simply has no charisma. Oh yeah, does WWE even create new Superstars anymore? It seems that every WrestleMania over the past decade has been headlined by the same people: HHH, Undertaker, The Rock, HBK*, Edge*, Y2J, Cena. CM Punk is practically the only one in the new generation that's consistently headlined a WrestleMania, but that's it. The Miz has been relegated to pre-show matches this year. Sure, there's buildup over The Shield, but where will that go by the end of the year? At least the WWE is doing significantly better than TNA. *Yes, they're retired, but they were part of the same headline all these years.
