  1. Box Office Numbers Currently, Man of Steel is the highest-grossing Superman movie (third-highest behind Superman I-II if adjusted for inflation), but can it break the US$1 billion barrier faster than Iron Man 3 and the last two Dark Knight films?
  2. Just watched Olympus Has Fallen, and yeah... there really isn't anything here you haven't seen before. So here's a checklist with spoilers (as no one here's gonna bother watching it): North Korean terrorists disguised as South Korean tourists: CHECK Insanely high body count: CHECK Cheesy CG effects to disguise the fact that film was not actually shot in Washington, D.C.: CHECK Morgan Freeman as acting President for the whole duration of the film: CHECK White House loaded with top-secret weaponry: CHECK Terrorist's demand for U.S. military to pull out of Korean DMZ: CHECK Terrorist tortures President and Cabinet into revealing access codes for all nuclear silos so they can self-destruct them and nuke the entire country: CHECK Terrorist uses taekwondo to fight hero: CHECK Terrorist shoots President: CHECK Hero uses deactivation code within 10 seconds of self-destruction: CHECK So if you're looking for a generic action flick, Olympus Has Fallen ranks high on the rental list. Otherwise, just watch the Die Hard movies again.

He was best known as Williams in the 1973 martial arts blockbuster Enter the Dragon before starring in a string of kung-fu and Blaxploitation cult films in the 1970s. R.I.P. Jim Kelly. 7. I finally got to watch this movie, and this is the first time ever that a Hong Kong Jackie Chan movie has bored me to death. CZ12 brings absolutely nothing new to the table. Instead, it recycles every trope used in nearly every Jackie Chan movie such as a bumbling female lead paired with an equally airhead foreign chick, a fight/chase scene that involves avoiding an exploding object, etc. I usually don't mind if the script of a Jackie Chan movie is very shallow, but this one is simply too flat and the action doesn't make up for it. And the film's climax done with green-screen and CGI is a clear sign that Jackie Chan's stunt action days are over. Simply put, CZ12 is the weakest of all the Hong Kong-based Jackie Chan films. Hell, it's almost as bad as the American-produced Disney's Around the World in 80 Days, The Tuxedo, The Medallion and The Spy Next Door.
  8. I reviewed this movie in the original MW Automotive Thread when it hit theaters in 2007. Since then, it's been mostly forgotten by everyone other than the fact that it was a disaster both commercially (US$8 million at the box office) and critically (0% on Rotten Tomatoes). But the real story goes beyond the movie, as it directly contributed to the U.S. recession. "How?" you ask. Here's the short version: Daniel Sadek was a third-grade dropout from Lebanon who migrated to the U.S. in the 1980s. After years of working at gas stations and car dealerships, he broke into the subprime lending business and set up Quick Loan Funding in 2002. Within a span of five years, Quick Loan Funding approved US$4 billion in subprime mortgages while Sadek took home US$5 million every month. And with that money, he bought houses and every supercar available in the market at the time. He even flew a private jet to Las Vegas every weekend to play poker. While he was enjoying his lavish lifestyle, he was engaged to soap opera actress Nadia Bjorlin. Looking to show off his supercar collection and help boost Bjorlin's acting career, he produced this US$26 million film, using money directly from Quick Loan Funding. Among the expenses was the intentional destruction of a Porsche Carrera GT in the film's final race scene. In addition, actor during a fundraising event to promote the film (Sadek simply posed in front of the wrecked supercar for photos). Needless to say, this movie went belly-up, and so did Quick Loan Funding, as majority of the homeowners who borrowed from the company defaulted on their mortgages. In the aftermath of the company's closure, Sadek broke up with Bjorlin and was forced to declare bankruptcy following a string of lawsuits. For more info on his lifestyle, watch the CNBC documentary House of Cards. And so, I present to you... Redline. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trnEqSPm1_g
  9. Actually, Atlanta was among the cities mentioned that were hit. Houston got hit as well before America's failed attempt at nuking the ship above it. Also, toward the end of the film, there's a scene of downed alien ships near what's left of Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
