Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time II: The Quickening
areaseven replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As Kingsman: The Secret Service has kicked off the spy film season, it's time for another topic. What is the worst spy film of all time? I nominate this atrocity of a film. The Avengers (not the Marvel one) was one of the top spy TV series in the 1960s, with unforgettable performances by Patrick Macnee as John Steed and Diana Rigg as Emma Peel from 1965 to 1968. All of that went down the drain because of this horrid 1998 remake. Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman were miscast as Steed and Peel, respectively. Sean Connery just can't be a villain. This film was a box office bomb (US$48.6 million compared to its US$60 million budget) and a critical failure (5% on Rotten Tomatoes an 12 out of 100 on Metacritic). On the bright side, Thurman went on to star in Kill Bill while Fiennes became the current M in the James Bond 007 series.- 854 replies

Moonraker has always been silly since day one. Jaws was one of the most feared henchmen in The Spy Who Loved Me, but more than half of Moonraker ended up being a live-action Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner.

The Magnificent Seven: A Remake of a Remake
areaseven replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Seven Samurai is one of my classic favorites. I don't remember ever watching The Magnificent Seven in full when I was young. So like everyone else (especially Marlboro people), this is what I know of The Magnificent Seven.- 33 replies

Director Antoine Fuqua (King Arthur, Olympus Has Fallen) will reunite his Training Day duo Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington to reboot The Magnificent Seven, the 1960 Western remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 epic Seven Samurai. Also on board the project are Chris Pratt (Quill/Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, Emmet in The Lego Movie) and Hailey Bennett (Mandy in The Equalizer, Cora in Music and Lyrics). While we're still anticipating the release of this film, check this out. In 2011, a group of friends did a non-stop James Bond 007 marathon from the 1954 Casino Royale to Quantum of Solace. Here are the scores: Casino Royale (1954) = 5.00 Dr. No (1962) = 6.50 From Russia with Love (1963) = 8.20 Goldfinger (1964) = 10 Thunderball (1965) = 5.86 Casino Royale (1967) = 4.00 You Only Live Twice (1967) = 6.30 On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) = 9.30 Diamonds Are Forever (1971) = 4.71 Live and Let Die (1973) = 6.67 The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) = 2.50 The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) = 9.33 Moonraker (1979) = 7.75 For Your Eyes Only (1981) = 7.50 Octopussy (1983) = 7.23 Never Say Never Again (1983) = 7.69 A View to a Kill (1985) = 5.50 The Living Daylights (1987) = 6.67 Licence to Kill (1989) = 7.56 GoldenEye (1995) = 9.25 Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) = 5.18 The World Is Not Enough (1999) = 7.76 Die Another Day (2002) = 4.14 Casino Royale (2006) = 9.89 Quantum of Solace (2008) = 5.42 The group later on saw Skyfall and gave it an 8.27 average.

The WWE and Pro-Wrestling Thread 2
areaseven replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Luke & Butch were much better as the Sheepherders in the indy feds. It's too bad WWF severely dumbed them down for the sake of kids' appeal. In the case of Demolition, there was bad blood between WWF and Bill Eadie (Ax). After Eadie left the WWF in the early 1990s, he made an attempt to resurrect the Demolition team in the indy feds before WWF slapped a C&D on him. He then unsuccessfully sued the WWF for the rights to the Demolition name. Another complication is the legal status of the Demolition theme song. It seems that singer/songwriter Rick Derringer holds the rights to the song, and he's in not-so-great terms with the WWE. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why Piledriver: The Wrestling Album II has never been reissued since its first release in 1987, and why WWE has to re-dub Demolition's ring entrances on archive footage.- 715 replies
