Finished detailing the MG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.3.0 GFT. As my first MG kit in over a decade, I'm very impressed with how such an iconic design has evolved as a model kit. Sure, many modelers have accused this kit of being an upsized RG kit, but while both kits look the same, the inner frame assembly is completely different. For the panel lining, I used gray Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color, then cleaned off the excess with Meguiar's PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish on a cotton swab and microfiber towel. Now I'm wondering if I should pick up the 2.0 or any of the older MG RX-78-2 Gundam kits.

The MG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.3.0 GFT (4,628 yen at Gundam Front Tokyo) is a gloss recolor of the standard MG kit, so yeah, it's a bit of a letdown in terms of exclusivity. But it's still a fun and involving build. Despite some small nub marks, I'll leave this as a straight build and then apply gray panel lining and decals as a memento of my visit to Tokyo last month.

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time II: The Quickening
areaseven replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Robert Rodriguez has been hailed as one of the most influential filmmakers in the past two decades, having written, produced, and directed masterpieces such as The Mexico Trilogy, From Dusk till Dawn, Planet Terror, and Machete. Some even consider Spy Kids (just the first film) as one of his best films as well. Then there's one film he decided to make because his kids literally wrote it. What was he thinking? Oh yeah, Taylor Lautner's in it too, so it's automatically on this thread.- 854 replies

WORST Sci-Fi TV series of all time.....
areaseven replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
After some extensive reading, it appears that Galactica 1980 was ABC's way of giving the series a slow and painful death, as well as an F-U to the fans who protested over the original series' cancellation (especially some poor 15-year-old kid who committed suicide because he was obsessed by it). With that in mind, here's a quick rundown of Galactica 1980 for your viewing displeasure.- 279 replies

WORST Sci-Fi TV series of all time.....
areaseven replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
At least Galactica 1980 got shot down after one season, and it was easily forgettable. Small Wonder went on for four seasons, leaving many viewers scarred for life.- 279 replies

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
areaseven replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
My very first console was an Atari 2600 (black 4-switch version), which my parents bought in 1984. I had less than 10 games on that console before it conked out. But my all-time favorite back in the '80s was the Commodore 64. Back in the day, Electronic Arts had sweet "album cover" packaging for their games, and I spent a chunk of my allowance on Skyfox and Skyfox II: The Cygnus Conflict. Good times.- 6750 replies

Time for a little show-and-tell. This is the 1/144 GFT Gunpla Factory RX-78-2 Gundam. It's sold exclusively at Gundam Front Tokyo at Diver City Tokyo Mall in Odaiba, Tokyo for 500 yen (you get the head parts runner for free if you pay 1,200 yen for a ticket to the Dome-G theater and Gunpla Museum. What you essentially get is an updated version of the FG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam, color molded and ready to assemble with no need for nippers. You also get an unpainted and unassembled box. For 30 minutes, you can hang out at the Gunpla workshop and use their Copic markers (sadly, they didn't have gray) to color the box cover and double-sided tape to assemble the two halves. I'm not gonna assemble this Gunpla not only because it's too freakin' basic, but because it's a rare souvenir item that you won't find in stores.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
areaseven replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'd have to side with Sega Genesis on this one, as that was the only console we had in the household before we got the PlayStation (the NES had conked out years prior to getting the Genesis). I already knew that the Genesis was inferior to the SNES, but we just didn't have the budget to run two consoles at the same time. Besides, it was my brother who owned the Genesis; I was more into PC gaming with my Pentium 133 back then. In terms of the Genesis games themselves, I enjoyed Sonic the Hedgehog 1, Disney's Aladdin, and X-Men. Too bad we didn't have the more hardcore games such as Altered Beast or Streets of Rage.- 6750 replies

Meanwhile, in other 007 news: James Bond Distribution Rights Coming Up for Grabs SPECTRE will be the final 007 film to be distributed by Sony Pictures. Sources say that Warner Bros. will be the next to partner with MGM. James Bond Reveals His Mission in SPECTRE Footage at CinemaCon SPOILER ALERT! Classic James Bond Villain Doesn't Want to See a Black 007 UPDATE: Roger Moore Says Idris Elba Can't Be Bond, as 007 Should be "English-English" Amidst the leaked reports of Sony considering Idris Elba (Stacker Pentecost in Pacific Rim, Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) to replace Daniel Craig, Yaphet Kotto (Kananga/Mr. Big in Live and Let Die) voiced his opinion against casting a black James Bond. Roger Moore himself was also against the idea, but some readers took his comments the wrong way, forcing Moore to clarify that his opinion was not racist. Still, he forgets that Bond was Scottish (Sean Connery), Australian (George Lazenby), Welsh (Timothy Dalton), and Irish (Pierce Brosnan).

Actually, the most anti-Carpenter film is Memoirs of an Invisible Man, as he was only brought in as director at the last minute because Ivan Reitman backed out. Escape from L.A. would be second, as it feels more corporate-controlled than Carpenter's own works.

Maybe I should do a John Carpenter marathon this weekend. I got with me Escape from New York, The Thing, Starman, Big Trouble in Little China, and They Live.
