I mean... yeah? There's no real life 1:1 version so what else should I compare to? Screenshot? DX? Random art? In all cases it looks similar, especially the DX. If you want the metallic non transparent look, I think you could paint the inside of the canopy silver and get a reasonable result.

It's supposed to be pretty dark isn't it? I feel like the painted up finished photos look pretty good.

I mean... makes sense right? Isn't it just the same plastic as the first release YF-29 and optional add-on parts, but recolored and sold together in one box? If the first release could be built without add-ons, then it follows that the Max version can as well.

Lol. I finally got something from HLJ. They added 1 set of decals for YF-29 Max ver. to my private warehouse. Still no regular YF-29 or its decal sheet in sight. And predictably the YF-29 Max kit itself went right to backorder. I guess I'll be waiting for the Max kit to show up locally, as I did with YF-19 and the first YF-29.

Yeah, hoping for a subtitled bluray release. I'm in the USA region.

The Hasegawa 1/48 kit says Vermilion Squadron on the box. But when I ran the display cards through google translate, it did actually come out as 'vermilion platoon'. So I really don't know which is 'correct'. It would make a lot of sense for Vermilion to be a subgroup of Skull Squadron. But I've been seeing it written as Vermilion Squadron for years.

Admittedly my japanese is poor and I know very few kanji, but don't the signs say "Fighter Valkyrie", not "Fire Valkyrie"? I think the signs say: 1/72 VF-1A Fighter Valkyrie Vermilion Squadron (Maximilian Jenius/Hayao Kakizaki) & 1/72 VF-1J Fighter Valkyrie Vermilion Squadron (Ichijo Hikaru)

I gotta say... it's so weird that Hasegawa has been sleeping on the VF-171 for so long. But I'm glad another company is doing it. And not only doing it, but doing many versions. I'm pretty sure the Armored won't be the last. Hopefully they'll get to the RVF-171, and didn't they promote a tan colored VF-171 when the news originally broke that they were developing this project?

For sure. Have been wanting VF-171 kits for.... a long time. Just need someone to do battroids now. Would also accept VF-17 to go with the new VF-19kai. But VF-171 battroid preferred!

So many new Macross kits from so many companies. Hasegawa, Bandai, Wave, Max Factory. Regults, power armors, VF-171 variants, YF-29s, YF-21, new VF-1s. What a great time to be a Macross plastic model fan.

1/72 YF-29 is super great news. The VF-19Kai is not my favorite, but more battroid kits is cool. Hopefully the start of a line of battroids. 1/72 standard YF-19 battroid later? And please please do a 1/72 YF-30 fighter.

I'd like a YF-30. Seeing as they never did one in their 1/72 line. A VF-11 series would also be great. And honestly, I'd buy a VF-25 and VF-31 series too. Maybe they'd actually do the VF-31E this time.

Sure but.... I got every single 1/72 Macross release from Bandai easily through HLJ. It's just the 1/100s that have been trouble.

It's funny... I preordered the YF-19 on day 1, as soon as HLJ posted it for preorder. I did not get one shipped when it was released, it went to backorder. While it was on backorder, I found 3 copies locally at 3 different physical stores. I then canceled my HLJ order. Fast forward a bit... I preordered the YF-29 on HLJ as soon as it was posted. Again, at release, it went to backorder and I got nothing. I've already found a YF-29 at my local shop, and between local online stores and local physical stores, I can easily get a couple more. I will again be canceling my HLJ order. I have the YF-29 Max and YF-21 on preorder at HLJ now, but I have 0 confidence I'll ever see a kit come in for me via that avenue. I'm sure I'll wind up getting 3 YF-19 Max and 3 YF-21 locally. I don't know why HLJ gets so little stock of these.

I got my VF-171 (and the earlier Alto type) right away through HLJ. HLJ seems to get the Wave and Hasegawa Macross kits very easily, unlike the Bandai 1/100 kits...

Dang it. I was waiting for a VF-1J Super Battroid Max to pair with the recently released Miria version. Oh well, hopefully that's still coming in the near future.

I'm still sitting on an old Imai release of the 1/72 Spartan, waiting for someone to do a modern kit. But I should probably at least try to get a copy of the Bandai re-issue since the old Imai decals probably won't be worth much use by now.

If anyone has Bandai 1/72 VF-1s they want to dump, I'll gladly buy. 😂
