anyone built the VF-31J already and not using the water slide decals who would be willing to spare them? Already botched a couple - probably wasnt the best idea to use the water slide but I am fairly committed at this point - please pm if you got a set and willing to sell....

is there any way to provide feedback to Bandai about the decals? Or just no point? Admittedly I have only build 50% of one of their kits so far but my experience has been great with the build - really impressed with the engineering and quality of the plastic - it just seems such a let down that the solid color decal sections are so poorly done....

I wonder how Hasegawa will deal with the complicated schemes in their kits? Probably will need to be mostly masked?

well maybe 1/4 thru build - thoughts so far: decals - seem to go on OK to bare plastic with some set/sol solution over them, not sure how tough they will be yet. As noted the solid color areas are not very good when viewed up close, in particular the grey bits clear canopy - given the other color clear parts it woulda been nice to have this cast in clear yellow/orange clear head visor/crystals - again woulda been real nice if they had used the pink clear plastic for the visor bit at least. I used the sticker and overcoated it with future and it worked out OK but still not super ideal Fit - with just a little tweaking here and there with a sanding stick so far fit is really good....

Yeah... the art seemed all over the place. What was with the weird "pencil squiggle" shading affect going on - looked really odd. Story seems all over the place as well - scenes of puck at the tavern and the bit with Collette & her father on the wagon seem clear from Black Swordsman, with just a bit of Lost Children chapter (the tree thing, but dont recall it looking like that though and no Jill being rescued) and Isidro thrown in to boot at the tavern. So next episode preview already Guts is captured by Farnese/Holy Knights - really confusing there - so he hasnt been killing apostles then? Nothing of the Snake Baron or Count sections of Black Swordsman let alone the majority of the Lost Children chapters?

so, well into building one of these; I am not painting but prefer to use decals vs stickers - anyone have experience using decals on bare plastic? Bad idea? My thought is to clear gloss first then decal then another coat over that but it will really slow the build down and I am a little worried how the clear will affect the transforming/moving sections

well mine finally arrived. First Bandai kit of any kind here. I have to say, from a presentation and packaging standpoint everything is really top notch. As a plastic model nut all those colorful sprues really speak to me - can't wait to dive into this one. Maybe I shall sing a different tune after I get into assembly but first impressions are great Were they likely doing all members of Delta in this format?

They look good - I like the Suicide Squad three but waiting to see if the movie is good enough to get my interest high enuf to want figures from it

new to these Bandai kits - does "aftermarket" ever come to the rescue with better decals for these?

Could be - not sure on that one but it wouldn't surprise me. I personally love the Wave 1/100 kits so far - absolutely no issues with assembly, I like the break down of parts etc. Wish they did not mould the 1A in flesh color plastic though. Also kinda annoying that they dont sell a stand alone gerwalk kit - you make that from having the battroid and jet kits together. Not terrible but sucks if you want to do a "all modes" display together (you'd need four kits to do it....)

Well I think I am going to call this done... the close ups reveal some things I wish were better and I now realize I put the intake warning triangles in the wrong spot but ahh well.....

Gloss is still a bit touchy for me as well with the airbrush, but the Mr Color lacquers with their leveling thinner and the paint thinned pretty heavy really went on well for me recently - super glossy finish. Going to see if I can replicate on a second Wave 1/100 VF-1A this time the jet version...

thx - the Mr Color paints I used are super glossy. I am debating still but will probably go with a semi gloss final clear

Ordered here as well - little worried as this is my first Bandai and it sounds like their decals are not so great? Also that is one complex paint job (especially if the decals are crap) but I guess we will see!

Hmm, inserting more levity.... Probably to try to bring it more in line with the prequels - just throw in some fart jokes and an annoying sidekick and it will be fine.... Hope not - as others say fingers are crossed they keep this thing a war movie but I guess we shall see... -

Definitely would think R if they are sticking to the original level of gore at all? Aside from the dog there is a cyborg that eats human brains - there are some quite disturbing panels in the original of that happening....
