What Topics are allowed and not on MW
TheLoneWolf replied to Jemstone's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
According to MacrossWorld's "rules" (I use this term lightly), the mods have the ability to make up the rules as they go along, and however they feel like it. What is taboo one day may be embraced the next. Questioning the mods actions is utterly fruitless. I am not bitter nor am I trying sound facetious, I'm just telling it like it is. -
One more thing to remember: you can't link images from sites like Geocities and Angelfire.

Someone posted another thread about that Valkyrie, apparently it's a custom and not a knock-off. Kudos for getting a custom, however ugly, box to house it.

I say "unfortunately" because Kojima is a modern-day George Lucas. A once brilliant man who's lost his touch. I've got nothing against "overly cinematic" scenes, just as long as they are compelling and interesting. One of my favorite games is Policenauts, which had about 5 minutes of action for every hour of dialogue. But 70% of MGS2's dialogue was redundant, with the characters repeating themselves over and over again. Not to mention the plot, which was most convoluted mess I've ever had the displeasure of watching. Even Chris Carter's X-Files was less contrived. But I will say that the game's engine was spot on, no complaints here. Konami should keep their programmers, and toss the writer. One more thing, don't believe anything you see in those trailers. Kojima is renowned for surprising his fans. For all we know, only 10% of the game could involve Big Boss. How quickly we forget the old MGS2 trailers...

Yes, unfortunately.

It's just a continuity error, very common in hollywood movies and anime. IIRC, the first episode had more than its share of continuity errors. Besides, didn't Kawamori say that he isn't going to let continuity get in his way? We're seeing it in action right here! OFF>

Or seperate themselves into two camps; The "have's" and the "have nots." So far everything' smooth sailing, but we've all seen how MW members can become catty. Btw vinnie, your title is AWESOME!

I've seen a lot of good reasons why the Q-rau could cost so much, but I think the only legitimate one was put by Omni: PREROGATIVE The Q-rau is the first of its kind, Yamato has absolutely no competition with the one, local or abroad. Yamato has seen that we* have no problems shelling out $120+ for repainted VF-1's, so we obviously have the fervor and the fundage. With a toy Q-rau being so highly sought after by Macross and Robotech fans, there's no reason why they should cut us a break. Now, a lot have mentioned production costs as a factor. I've always believed that the R&D teams are the unsung heroes of the toy market, with all the glory going to the company name instead. Can anyone even tell me who sculpted the original "chunky munky"? But I digress. R&D is large portion of the final cost. But I believe that cost is tantamount to how complex the toy is. Anyone who has ever taken apart a 1/60 or 1/48 can tell you about the copious amounts of small parts and joints involved. From the pics posted, the Q-rau appears to have fewer individual pieces than any other Yamato toy to date. The only complicated parts seem to be the hands and opening cockpit. While it is an overall beautiful piece, I do not see it's tooling cost exceeding or even matching that of the VF-1. Which brings me to my next point. sf648, you've posted an excellent piece on how Yamato was able to amortize the VF-1 line through repaints et al. This makes a lot of sense to me, but if we were to apply the same rubric to all of Yamato's releases, then the VF-11B and YF-21 should have cost a lot more than their MSRP. Both toys involved tremendous tooling, numerous pieces, die-cast, and smaller runs (they got only 1 to 2 variants), yet their MSRP is significantly less than the Q-rau's. I think Yamato's pricing scheme has more to do with what they think fans will pay, and that's smart business. However, speaking for myself, I'm going to pass. * "we" reffering to MW and other fanatical American fans. Got no clue on sales and demand in Japan.

It contained needless religious references and pictures. <_< This is a pretty fun thread and I'd hate to see it get locked.

On the old forums, I posted a comic I recieved at Otakon 97'. I've been following the U.S. Macross 7 debate for the past ten years, and it's scary just how accurate this old strip is. I didn't create this strip, nor do I know who did. The last panel was edited in compliance with MW rules.

Mine would've been a year old too, but I sold it last summer along with the rest of my 1/48's. Never had any breakages or QC problems, I just didn't like the arms and backpack.

The Q-rau looks absolutely stunning. But I cannot justify spending $120 on a non-transforming toy. All this time we rationalized the high cost of the 1/48's by noting that transforming toys are extremely complex (well, in Yamato's case anyways). Now, we have a non-transforming toy at the same cost. Yamato's definitely playing up their "exclusive" card this time. Good job on the detail, I love it. I just can't say the same about the price. I hadn't noticed that either. This brings back bad memories of the 1/72 YF-21. :shudder:

Just to note, there have been unsubstantiated reports that it does wear out the motor. As of yet, I haven't seen anyone flat out say "I wore out my motor." It's more like "a friend of a friend wore out his motor" or "it should wear out your motor." Caveat emptor.

Ugh, HK DVD's. I bought some and the subs are horrible. The video transfer is also weak, but you won't notice it unless you've got an HDTV. Also, while it's advertised as Dolby Digital, it's really Dolby Digital 2.0, which sucks donkey nads. Thanks goodness one of our members here put together a sweet DVD with excellent video and subs. And, Dolby Digital 5.1 to boot.

Phantasy Star Online is great...for ripping GC games. On it's own, it's still a decent game. I just prefer the old PS games.

While playing the emu, try hitting F9. If that doesn't work, edit the pce.ini file so that sound is enabled. [sound] ; ; sound ; -- ; y -> enabled [default] ; n -> disabled ; sound=y Have it so that sound is set to "y." From the pce.ini file, you can configure everything for Magic Engine. If the above tips don't work, a little trial & error with the .ini file is your best bet.

Totally Off Topic - But FREAKIN ME OUT
TheLoneWolf replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You know Andy, it's schedule to snow tonight and the rest of the weekend here in MD. I say, don't shovel your front door and leave through the rear, that way you'll see their footprints and where they run off too. Or, you can throw a bunch of water in front of the door and let it freeze overnight. When you hear a scream followed by a big thump, you've got your secret elf. Honestly, I think your wife and another accomplice are involved. -
Looks like someone made an emoticon for the Robotech and HG License Thread: This is where I keep my stash, help yourselves for now. http://tiger.towson.edu/~kmudd2/macross/smilies

Awesome! It doesn't look like he swallowed an egg anymore. -
Who is the person in this cel?
TheLoneWolf replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's definitely Mimsy. Although it's been a while since I've seen the Japanese language version, I believe her name was pronounced as "Mim-shee." -
Lynx7725's post is right on the money with Yamato's SDF-1. Toynami said that they won't make an SDF-1 since they won't be able to sell variants of it.

Amazing! How about some pics of the other modes?
