Southern Cross & Genesis Climber Mospeada
TheLoneWolf replied to msterling21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wow, that's the first (and probably the last) time I've ever seen Southern Cross cosplay. Lana and Louis don't look to bad either. I'm just surprised they couldn't find an old, bald and fat otaku to play Claude Leon (Gen. Leonard) -
I have it, I'll post some scans when I get back home later tonight. Hopefully we'll get this mystery solved.

Have you checked the movie program guide for Macross Plus: Movie Edition/The Galaxy is Calling Me? It has the lyrics and titles for both of Emilia's songs, and there's some kanji above the lyrics that may include the name of the singer.

1/48+fp's, 1/60, And 1/72 Picture Gallery Pt 2
TheLoneWolf replied to VF-18S Hornet's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Nice Kim figure! It looks like you gave her Minmay's hand, but where to did you get her head from? -
Yeah, I think the rainbow canopies are here to stay. They're quirky, and we all know how the Japanese love quirky stuff. I'm no fan of the rainbow canopy, but it don't bother me anymore since you can wash off the effect with some acrylic paint thinner. Thanks Kyp!

Don't like the rainbow coating on the V2 1/60 VF-1 canopy?
TheLoneWolf replied to Kyp Durron's topic in The Workshop!
Kyp, kudos to you for being brave enough to use your new 1/60 as a guinea pig. If I ever do decide to get the v2, I'll be sure to get a bottle of Tamiya acrylic paint thinner. From some of the pictures I've seen, it looks like the rainbow effect can sometimes distort the cockpit details, which I find counterproductive. -
From the angles of the pictures taken, I agree that the canopy looks pretty bad. Hopefully it's just the camera angle or just a very early sample piece.

About the Macross Chronicles
TheLoneWolf replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
sketchley, thanks for breaking down the contents of Chronicles #2. And thanks for telling us how much of the line art is recycled. -
When you put it that way...definitely MacrossWorld.

What a great use for the old v1 1/60 pilots! They look like they're in scale too! I like how the tampo markings are just peering through the red paint, it's a pretty cool effect. Keep us updated on your progress.

Where did Miku Ichijyo come from?
TheLoneWolf replied to John Focker's topic in Movies and TV Series
Did the "Mirai" name contain a cite? Non-cited information from Wikipedia (including the Japanese version) should never be taken too seriously. -
Macross Memorial Box DVD - Booklet Question
TheLoneWolf replied to lynn2009's topic in Movies and TV Series
Sorry it's taken me a while to respond, but I wasn't able to find my first two TIA books to compare, so all I'm working with is Memory Perfect and the third TIA book. As for those Yotchan design sheets, the DVD booklet has them except for the ones where he's falling face-first into the ground, the one that focuses on his eye, and the one that focuses on his UN Spacy symbol. I can also verify that some of the interviews were taken straight out of Memory Perfect because it has "Interview MACROSS MEMORY PERFECT" right above them However, there appears to be a new interview with Ishiguro since I can make out the words "25" (most likely in reference to Macross' 25th anniversary). Finally there's another interview with an older fellow who looks to be around Ishiguro's age. I don't recognize his photo so I couldn't tell you who he is. As for the rest of the character designs, I'd guess that 97% of them can be found in the TIA books and Memory Perfect. Few struck me as new with the rare exception of a 3/4 bust-view of certain characters like Kamjin. The booklet also has rear headshots of all the major characters, meaning all you can see is the back of their hair. I don't remember seeing these before either. Hope this helps! -
Fixed.

As an X-Files fan (who stopped watching after season 5), I liked the movie. It wasn't jaw-dropping, but it was still very good. As people have noted, it's essentially a 2-hour episode that is character driven, not plot driven. If you genuinely liked the characters of Mulder and Scully, you'll love the movie. If you watched X-Files for the aliens, mutants, and double plot twists, then you'll be disappointed.

Macross Memorial Box DVD - Booklet Question
TheLoneWolf replied to lynn2009's topic in Movies and TV Series
I can't read kanji, so I don't know if the interviews are new or recycled. I know what you mean about rare lineart, it's truly a treat when you find one in an odd location that hasn't been published in any of the major artbooks. I'll double-check when I get back home, but I don't recall seeing any lineart that hasn't already been published in the TIA books or Memory Perfect. -
Macross Memorial Box DVD - Booklet Question
TheLoneWolf replied to lynn2009's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm at work so I can't give you an exact page count, but I think it's around 100 pages. It's got interviews with the staff, an episode synopsis, the usual character & mecha lineart, some of the cover art from the old IMAI/ARII kits, and some of the Macross merchandise that's been offered throughout the years. It's pretty nifty but doesn't offer anything that we haven't already seen, and it's definitely not worth the price of the box set. -
The bone claws and James Howlett story makes me glad to have given up Marvel comics years ago. The movie looks good, though I question the necessity for Gambit and Deadpool. Wolverine's a strong and deep enough character to support a movie on his own, and especially with Sabretooth, Stryker and Silver Fox co-starring.

Thanks for the thorough explanation. I never knew there were two sets of Fast Packs for the VF-4 Siren. From the games' text, it's good to see that quite a bit of thought was put into the Siren, even though we rarely got to see detailed pictures of it. In my dream world, Macross Chronicles would feature an entire section dedicated to PC-Engine lineart and text.
-
I'm amazed to learn that Kawamori himself named it "Siren," I was always under the assumption that the ELS staff came up with that name. In TIA Flashback 2012, is the VF-4 referred to as the "Siren" or "Lightning?" I wouldn't be surprised if the ELS staff used those pieces of lineart as a reference. But they definitely did not use Kawamori's rough Fast Pack design when adding Fast Packs to their VF-4. The Fast Packs the VF-4 Siren used in ELS looked questionable. Can you explain how the VF-4A/S/SP/ST are different? For some odd reason, I'm incredible fascinated with the PC-Engine games.

Normally I'd cry blasphemy, but as someone else pointed out, the 1/55 toys have been in near-constant production for the past 26 years whether by Takatoku, Bandai, Hasbro, official reissues, and a plethora of bootlegs with varying quality. There will never be a shortage of "classic" heads for the 1/55, therefore I can wholeheartedly welcome these new designs. On another note, I'm very pleased to see Toynami importing more and more proven Japanese toys. This is more efficient than designing (and sometime copying) their own products from the ground up. Their pride must've taken quite a hit when they decided to shelve their trumpeted MPC VF-1 in favor of its 26 year old predecessor, but this is a decision that's going to payoff for them and all Macross/Robotech fans.

And maybe if we stop buying exclusive releases (ie: weathered Roy 1S), then they'll stop doing this sort of stuff.
-
I also used to think that what we've got is as good as it's going to get. But on the Bonus disc, Bandai's got remastered intros/closings for SDF and the pilot. It looks incredible and blows away all other SDF intros/closings to date. I'm guessing that this is just a teaser for whatever Bandai's got coming down the pipeline. Compare the CF Valkyries in the background of these screenshots.

Status of the information pages on MW
TheLoneWolf replied to CF18's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
There are other categories that are also hopelessly outdated, like the Video section. I believe the main site is manually coded in HTML, making it a pain in the arse to update. And even after it's been updated, it will still look like crap due to the limitations of HTML. Combine that with the fact that no one is being paid to work here and you've got your explanation.
