  1. Yes, that would be the point. Regardless if Duke Togo thinks the products are good enough, the point is that they were made and that's a good indicator of quality. Again, I'm not saying Macross 7 was more popular than the original Macross, but it was certainly on par if not very close in terms of popularity.
  2. Heh, a friend of mine recently had the chance to buy a Hayabusa with the 1.3l motor and NOS for around $7k. He didn't have the cash at the time, and that'd be a two-wheeled suicide anyways. Hayabusa's are about the only thing that can get the 900HP Supra boys to show some respect. I've heard there are turbo-charged 'Busas out there making around 400HP. Ridiculous. I hadn't thought of that, but the old aircooled VWs are a good way to make lots of cheap power. Biggest problem is their age, but the aftermarket is out there and it's pretty cheap. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a 308 for that cheap, and if you did, why would you buy it? A car like the 308 you're buying solely for the Ferrari name, because it isn't a very good car. Definatly the ugliest of the Ferrari's of era and pretty lackluster performance. If you want a cheap exotic, the NSX is a much better deal although they're more in the $20k range. Subsititute exotica and power for reliability and you're set. For a homemade supercar, pick up a 3rd gen RX7 (92-95) with a busted motor for about $6k. Throw in an LS1 with the works and you'd have a smoking car. Would be able to outhandle any comporable car, solid power from the V8 and the extensive aftermarket. Not to mention you'd piss off both the import AND domestic guys.
  3. Far more popular? In what universe is this, Keith? I'm sorry, I must have missed the major motion picture, toyline, and other series spun off of Macross 7. Care to point them out of me? Well, there was teh macross 7 "movie" The OVA series The manga spin-off The toys and models The video game The best selling musical CDs in the Macross series? Maybe not more popular than the original, but damn close.
  4. Thats actually really cool man, looks liek one of those black and white photos they went back and retouched in color. Either way, gives it a cool "old" look to it.
  5. Not so keen on the uniforms, as they look oddly colores. Ariel looks like an Eva. But it's just one screen shot, can't judge too much from it.
  6. Hey... just suggesting, that's all.
  7. Some idiots throw food trays (like you'd get at McDonald's) under the rear wheels and drift like that. Seriously.
  8. Funny thing about FWD, is that the older Civic hatchbacks are probably one of the best performance values out there. They can be found for relatively cheap, they're light, and they have a TON of aftermarket support (assuming you wade through all the ricey crap). You can build competitive track, autocross, rally and drag cars with them. I still have problems with the FWD though, and that's a hard bias to get over.
  9. Probably, but that's no excuse to "discuss" how much you hate Macross 7 in other threads.
  10. No, you're idiots because instead of posting something worthwhile in threads you simply post poo like "Macross 7 is stupid." Over and over again. If you want to discuss why you hate Macross 7 start your own threads about it, instead of invading other threads to piss off the people that actually (god forbid) LIKE Macross 7.
  11. I wasn't referring to anybody in specific, the problem with the Macross 7 haters goes far beyond the actions of one person. What happens is that someone starts a thread about Macross 7, and the Macross 7 haters come and start "sharing" their opinions about Macross 7, when really that has nothing to do with the topic. Then the Macross 7 defenders come up to defend the series and an argument starts and the thread is destroyed. By prohibiting the haters from starting the fight in the first place, the idea is that actual discussion about Macross 7 can occur.
  12. His suggestion is fay because he wants to do it out of personal interest, not out of any sense of fairness. Being a Macross 7 fan is a bit like being a Mets fan in NY... you are just going to have to deal with the fact that the majority of us are Yankees fans, and we are going to laugh at you because your team sucks. So because people are in the minority they don't have the right to discuss something they enjoy? I don't see how wanting to b able to discuss a Macross series without having to deal with idiots derailing the thread is anything BUT fair. Again, it's not a matter of people saying "I hate Macross 7" it's a matter of people saying it so much it destroys threads and ruins any discussion therein.
  13. Awesome, let's get these "strictly enforced" threads in place pronto. It's one thing to say "I don't liek Macross 7," but when certain people feel the need to continually voice their opinion and derail otherwise worthwhiel threads is when it becomes an issue. Don't make it out be some "oh no, I can't voice my opinion." Opinion has nothing to do with it. It has to do with stopping the individuals who have nothing better to do than belittle an anime series online to make up for their insecurities in the real world. If you think Graham's suggestion is to extreme, you obviously need to spend more time on other forums. The moderators here let us get away with a lot.
  14. The Corrado's are cool cars, almost as cool as the Scirroco's they replaced but they have a bunch of problems. Finding one under $5k wouldn't be hard, but you'd put in a lot more than that to get it into decent condition. They're chock full of nifty bells and whistles like automatically raising spoiler and heated seats, which break down. The car really doesn't age well, not to mention it's FWD. My neighbor is into them, he's got two on jack stands in his garage. Gave me a ride a few years ago in his supercharged 4cyl Corrado and it was fats as hell, but nothing in the car worked.
  15. If I had $5k right now I'd probably be spending it on a motorcycle. They really are the best performance value, but they're not cars, so.... $5k is a hard price point because their really isn't much to say for cars under that price. I'd probably go for a first generation supercharged MR2, a good amount less than $5k but with the extra cash impove the suspension and power output and you'd have a killer little car. First gen Miata? Not much in terms of power, but they're still killer in handling. If I was feeling sadistic, a turbo second gen RX7. But yeah, really, I'd just buy a bike.
  16. I believe it is "somewhat SD-ish". Beyond the auction itself there was no information. Er, what auction?
  17. that ain't real.....right? Definately not. Although it is ugly enough to be a Sony product.
  18. Er, sorry if my intentiosn were misread but I didn't mean to imply this thread was in the wrong forum at all. More just making a comment about the fan art community of Macross World as a whole. I didn't mean any ill will towards you at all, apologies if it seems like I did.
  19. Last I heard, Toynami still had the international MOSPEADA license, so...
  20. I totally agree, those initial scenes felt really stilted and awkward. Movie turned out pretty good though, was nothing amazing but a fun movie to watch. Far and away the best movie based on a comic book, I think.
  21. I think fine sports machine is an exaggeration when talking about DeTomaso's, they're cool cars but everything I've heard is that they're absolutely wretched to drive.
  22. (got this from the Macross II vs Macross 7 thread, figured it'd be better to continue over here than there) I hadn't heard about Gordon going to F1, but it would be very cool to see an Americanin the series even if it'll just be more fodder for Schummacher to run over. On the flip side, there was talk for a while that Colin McRae might start driving for NASCAR after her got screwed out of any driver positions in the WRC, but I haven't heard anything more on that. Last I heard of him he rolled his Nissan in the Paris-Dakar Rally. The idea of a Scotsman among the ol' NASCAR boys is a pretty funny image though.
  23. I find that really ironic considering Gordon is one of the few NASCAR drivers that can actually drive (y'know, left AND right hand turns) and manages to do pretty well on the road courses when all the other teams are calling in substitutes. Not discussing Macross 7 is kind of a ridiculous rule, since it's definately a large part of the Macross universe. The problem isn't Macross 7, it's those that argue about how much it sucks or how much it doesn't-- that discussion is damn near irrelevant because everyone has their own opinion. The best solutuon would be to just put a ban on stupid "Macross 7 is lame, OMG" posts, but that's easier said than done and would likely require quite a bit of work on the part of the mods since I doubt the people here could really self-moderate themselves given the apparent importance of the topic.
  24. Depressing but true, an add on reader for other types of cards would almost negate the need for a hard drive given that you can get CFII cards up to 4GB.
  25. More like Ford has no other choice but to pimp a classic name (and design) because it can't innovate worth a crap. As much as I love the new Mustang and dig the GT, I can't feel a little bit shafted because it's pretty obvious that Ford has decided to go back to an era when they didn't suck and just bring back their great designs from that time. Also see the Shelby Cobra and Shelby Coupe prototypes for examples of that.
