I'm seraching for a Mospeada picture
yellowlightman replied to danth's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's a licensed Robotech book, which meant they had access to Japanese art work but I seriously doubt they knew who drew what. Considering the art would have gone from Artmic/Tatsunoko -> Harmony Gold -> Palladium Books, contacting Palladium (especially since they no longer have the Robotech license) wouldn't be the best place to start. Easiest way would be to find the Japanese artbook(s) with the piece in it and start from there and translate. -

Mmmm... $40 for box office flops on UMD. Awesome! -
And to think, at one point in history reading was a respected skill.

Supposedly the control for the PSP Katamari game is horrible, which is pretty understandable.

About a month or two ago I sold the the phone strap that came with the Japanese version of the game. Some guy on eBay bought the strap from me for over $40. The game only cost $52 + shipping. ...

Can we play it together on the same GameCube (w/o an onilne connection?) I have a huge 50" TV that can do side-by-side Split-screen. It'd be funny to network 2 gamecubes on the same TV just to play together! 329632 Yup, it can handle up to 4-players split screen. It can get a bit repetitive, but the RPG style stats and equipment is fun and some of the later levels are very cool.

Hiring overseas production companies to do animation work for Japanese companies is nothing new and has been a regular occurance since LONG before computers became an issue. Animefriend, anyone?
-
That's partially it. A lot of it has to do with the fact that the animation industry faced some hard times in the late 90's and a lot of this computer-aided animation came from the necessity to bring down production costs. Not to mention, anime and manga aren't the easiest ways to make a buck. Masamune Shirow's manga production has dropped off considerably once he realized he could make just as much doing illustration and video game work.

Does anyone know the origin of this painting? I have the feeling it's Japanese (do to the fact it's quite nice, and most of Palladium's art staff at the time sucked), but Palladium rarely used illustrations other than their own for the RPG books. -
You might also want to check out Phantasy Star Online. It's pretty boring playing through it by yourself, but with friends it's a lot of fun.

VR-052L BERTLEY RIDE-ARMOR

Eh? 329544 She said he put the original Japanese language text through a translator. She knows his fan-novel is hard to read for native english speakers. Not sure what the last line means, seems like she regrets that we can't understand it? yui1107ã¸ã€€ã‚れ㮠ride armor ã¯ä½•ã§ã™ã‹ï¼Ÿã€€æ¨¹è„‚ã®ã‚ット? -
Ebay will probably be the cheapest, while poking around on there earlier today I think I saw one or two used copies. Otherwise there's the usual suspects like ncsx.com and play-asia.com.

Yeah, definately sounds like it was translated over from Japanese. yui1107㸠ã‚ãªãŸã¯æ—¥æœ¬äººã§ã™ã‹ï¼Ÿ -
Supposedly, Kojima wasn't entirely happy with Snatcher or Policenauts so he's probably just not very interested in either of those titles. Not to mention, MGS brings in the big bucks.

That trailer was one of the most poorly edited pieces I've seen in a long time, but it still looked damn cool.

I don't think that's a possibility. Nintendo has a fairly devoted fanbase and manages to be quite profitable even with a smaller market share thanks to decent management. But I would say the Gamecube is the last of their consoles trying to compete for the mainstream segment Sony and MS are grappling over.

I think going about debating the merits of the Revolution controller based on older games is the wrong way to look at it. It's not designed to play Prince of Persia or Mario, it's designed to play new types of games. Nintendo isn't doing this as a gimmicky controller for the same old games, they designed it to expand gaming and what we think of as games.

Science Fiction References in Music
yellowlightman replied to the white drew carey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Tha band Haujobb was based on a reference from Blade Runner. Haujobb is an incorrect translation of "skinjob." Led Zeppelin wrote some songs about Lord of the Rings, that's... almost science fiction. The Darren Hayes song, Good Enough has the line: But I like everything Spielberg's done / except A.I. -
The Revolution controller isn't nearly as bad as I was expecting, but it's not exactly mind-blowing either. My biggest fear is that it will scare away developers interested in making more typical games which could help the system actually succeed.

Pix of the new Gundam arcade game
yellowlightman replied to roxman's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Doubtful, considering it's from a cockpit perspective. My wild guess is that it's a bit slower and more sim-like, otherwise the fancy cabinet would be a waste. -
It might be because 911 Targa's are really f'ing lame.

Ladies, please. Everyone thinks your opinions are BOTH equally retarded. -
A journalist friend of mine who has spent a fair amount of time with Kojima (last summer when I was in Tokyo I called him to see if he wanted to hang out and he couldn't because he was watching Steamboy with the guy) passed along to me Kojima's vision of hsi works; that is, they all roughly take place in the same world. The Metal Gear series, Snatcher/Policenauts and Z.O.E. all take place along the same timeline.

Pix of the new Gundam arcade game
yellowlightman replied to roxman's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No. Your romanization is wrong, it's ikimasu not ekimass. I think what you mean in terms of more "formal" is the difference between "ikimasu" (行ãã¾ã™ï¼‰and "iku" (行ã). The former is the more formal version the latter is the shorter dictionary version. Ekimass is just an improper way of romanizing ã„ãã¾ã™ã€‚ -
Pix of the new Gundam arcade game
yellowlightman replied to roxman's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Reminds me of the move in the early 90's towards immerisve "virtual reality" type games. There was the Battletech game mentioned earlier, as well as a score of other VR type games that pretty much all sucked. Just about all games nowadays are expensive as hell, with the exception of fighters it seems like everything costs a minimum of $1 or more. Still not quite as bad as Japan where EVERYTHING is 100yen, even 10 year old games like Metal Slug. Well, unless you find a 50yen arcade with a limited game selection.
