1. While not a particularly well written piece (Bleemcast and the DC microphone weren't exactly big issues or even around during the DC launch), I've always felt the XBox and XBox 360 had a lot of Sega in them.
2. I bought it wanting a bigger, better, more varied version of Battlefront. That's exactly what it is. Whereas the first Battlefront got tired after a while, this one seems like it might have a better staying power. Haven't given it a shot yet on Live, will probably be doing that this week.
3. I was referring more to design, performance and handling, not reliability.
4. The funny thing is... The Z hasn't been Nissan's top sports car in a long time. In the late 80's when Japan was getting SR20DET powered S13's and the first GT-R's, we were stuck with the lame 280ZX which turned into the just-as-lame 300ZX. Supposedly the reason we never got SR20DET-powered S13's was because they outperformed the Z of the time, and Nissan couldn't have any other cars that out-performed the Z in America (a la GM and the Corvette). Then in the early 90's we had the release of the twin-turbo Supra and RX-7 and instead of the GT-R we get... the 300ZX? The 300ZX was an inferior car to the Mazda and Toyota efforts, whereas the GT-R would have actually been decent competition.
5. Scottiish... Austrailian... Welsh... Irish... they all sound the same, don't they!? Cage comes off like a whiny kid, but it's not like he's made anything worthwhile in the past few years anyways.
6. That's some good Photoshopping...
7. You can get 3-month cards if you buy the headset, which is pretty necessary for online play. Anyways, if you keep getting disconnected it's a problem on your side, not Xbox Live. I play almost every day and the only time it ever gets disconnected is when I have a router or modem issue. I'd look into that... once you get everything hooked up correctly it's great.
8. Yeah, they've worked well for countries like Japan too... 340447 weren't guns that let japan down.. it was the lack of natural resources. 340451 Uh, no. I meant that Japan is an incredibly safe country despite the fact that guns are illegal there. Anyways, I was just trying to push A1's buttons...
9. Yeah, they've worked well for countries like Japan too...
10. I totally agree. The retro thing is overdone, the overly-smoothe bubble look is overdone and in general it's a pretty uninventive time in the industry. It's a weird company to bring up, but I really like what Cadillac has done in the past few years. Not only have they managed to completely re-do themselves, their new look is modern and aggressive without looking like a copycat. Not to mention many of their cars are getting better reviews than their European competition...
11. What were you using before Wordpress, Movable Type? I have a couple sites I run using MT and I'm considering switching over to Wordpress to get rid of all the comment spam, but I'm not looking forward to transferring 500+ entries into Wordpress. Not to mention, I'd have to teach myself some PHP.
12. The Virtual Boy has always been one of those systems that was "cool" to make fun of. I played it quite a bit a few years ago and really liked it, was a shame they never released anything more than a handful of titles for it. As far as I'm concerned, Nintendo is still alive because of Yamauchi's leadership. Despite being the industry's underdog nowadays, they continue to make a profit and wise management decisions. If Nintendo was lead by the artists instead of the businessment like Yamauchi, they'd be in the financial hell Sega found itself in a few years ago.
13. Upshifts might be faster, but any decently skilled driver should be able to downshift faster than an SMT once they get familiar with the car. And really, when talking about "shifting faster" it's a matter of fraction of seconds. If you're that concerned with lap times, you should be driving a proper race car and not a street car and the whole argument becomes moot. The fact of the matter is that SMTs dont offer a distinct advantage over a regular clutch, they're designed for people who can't drive a standard but want to feel like a proper driver... I never said that spoilers didn't do anything, just that they're pretty much useless for daily driving and not put on cars for any legitimate purpose. If you're driving your car on the street at a speed where you'd need a spoiler, you're an idiot and shouldn't have a license.
14. I'm sure they get a royalty. The reason why the DaiCon video has yet to be released since the LD is that they don't have permission to use the song. Which is why the video file on Hideaki Anno's website doesn't have any sound... Lots of info on the DaiCon videos: http://www.cjas.org/~leng/daicon.htm
15. Um... check the link in his original post.
16. It's a '95 325is (or is it 328is, shows what I know ). Last year it was an STX class car, so the only modifcations was some serious suspension work. This year he's decided to move into the Street Mod class (where we're going to get our butts handed to us) but that allowed him to put on a new head. It's about as fast as a stock M3 in a straight line and handles great. I share your sentiments about being apathetic to BMWs. Not bad cars, just nothing really enticing about them. An E30 M3 would be a sweet car, but they're maitenance nightmares and expensive to keep running. The only other appealing BMWs are the E36 3-series. The M3s offer a lot of value for the money and the non-M3's are good daily drivers. The value on BMWs tends to drop pretty fast and they're pretty reliable, so it's not a bad deal.
17. Don't confuse F1 gearboxes for the ones they put on production cars, as they tend to be very different. I can't speak for the quality of the BMW ones, but comparing them to F1 gear is a bit silly. Next you'll be telling us all factory spoilers are worthwhile because F1 cars have spoilers too... That said, just because BMWs have an emphasis on handling and driveability doesn't mean they can't look good too. If I was paying that much money for a car I'd like it to look decent. And before all of you jump on my case about being a BMW-hater too, I co-drive my friends BMW racecar.
18. They're also really ugly. Bangle is getting better, but even his new designs lack the soul of the older BMWs.
19. Congrats on the engagement, Hurin!
20. At the risk of getting totally off-topic for the thread, most people missed the point of TF&TF. It wasn't a street racing movie, it was an action movie set with a street racing backdrop. A very silly action movie with a street racing backdrop. If it was an authentic street racing movie it'd be a movie about a bunch of kids in ghetto beater Honda's racing in business parks and getting arrested and hastled all the time by the cops. As it is, it's an enjoyable movie suitable for watching with some friends with cold beer (which has to be Corona).
21. Really? I never read this thread before, so I didn't notice this. Sounds like the movie has a chance of being good. Any updates? 339102 That was a very sarcastic post on my part. A few months ago someone posted info on the casting call for the movie, and from the script selections that were posted the story seemed to be about an American street racer who ended up in Tokyo. I loved the first Fast & The Furious, it was amazingly quotable and if you don't take it too seriously it's a lot of fun to watch. 2F2F wasn't nearly as well written and tried too hard to be serious, so it came out boring.
22. Is that yours? Looks lik a gorgeous car, I've never seen that paint scheme before. The grey and red looks very cool.
23. No sir, I don't like it. What does that glass roof do for structural rigidity [pshuh, as if I really knew just how much impact that had]? Still, I'd rather have a stiffer chassis for a "performance" oriented car like that, if given the choice. LOL, I dare anybody to hop in that thing on a hot summer day wearing shorts. Given car makers' penchant for leather interiors in more sporty vehicles, it ought to make things real interesting. 338651 The rule of thumb is supposedly that a sunroof cuts down on rigity, so I'd have to think what an entire glass roof does. Not to mention, there's something troubling about making big structural changes to cars like that which were never planned for by the original designers. Not to mention, why would someone by one of the new Saleen Mustangs anyways? Unless you really really liked and we're planning on keeping it forever, the previous Saleen 'Stangs lost their value damn quick.
24. SCHNEEGANS makes me think of "shenanigans." Were those kits designed by Kawamori?
25. I didn't think "self control" was part of the vocabulary here at Macross World.
