Starcraft has some Macross homages by way of Robotech.

Looks like a concept car from the late 80's/early 90's. Not that that's bad, just an unusual look. Those wheels are badass, though.
-
I thought it was an interesting mix of realism and a bit of campyness. The firefights certainly weren't your typical Hollywood stuff, but at the same time the movie had a lot of cheesy moments you wouldn't find in a movie like Heat.

Well, to be quit ehonest you're delusional if you were hoping for a remake set in the 80's. I love how Miami Vice fans automatically assume since the film isn't bathed in lame pastels and blasting Phil Collins tunes it's missing the point or an "abomination." The film actually hits on quite a few of the same ideas and styles as the original, just set in the present instead of the 80's. Given how focused the original TV series was on being relevant to current styles and trends, I would think Vice fans could appreciate the importance of setting the film in the present day. Miami Vice TV was about contemporary times, it just happened those times were the 80's. Much is the same as the new film. To those who grew up watching it in the 80's it might be a nice nostalgia trip, but it was never intended to be that.

And socks!

Way to not judge it before you see it or anything. By the way, the 80's ended 16 years ago. Get over it.

It felt pretty different than a regular Mann movie, I thought. I liked it a lot, dunno if I love it yet. People will be surprised with some of the spirit they retained from the original TV series, although no pastels.

Remastered Patlabor Movie I Is Freakin' Sweet
yellowlightman replied to Penguin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Deepdiscountdvd.com has both LE's for $59.85 with free shipping. -
Yeah, it surely couldn't have anything to do with a weakening economy and a shrinking anime fanbase that drove them to cheaper alternatives.
-
The system itself was okay, but it had horrible priority. It'd often lock you onto non-aggressive static objects instead of the enemy units actually ATTACKING you.
-
I think you're right. Really, I can't fault him for it. Can't expect the guy to keep churning out the same kind of stories over and over again, that'll get boring. People change over time, and as a result their work is going to change too. As for a direct continuation to the original series, it's never going to happen. Fans really need to accept that and move on.

Could just wait until it drops in price or is re-released on a best of label. That said, the game isn't that great. I bought it at launch and kinda regret it. Lots of boring levels and the worst lock-on system I've ever seen.

Thanks for the link Grand Cannon. I watched most of episode one and I gotta say I'm very interested. The photography angle is pretty neat and I'm curious to see where they take the whole thing. Looks like the main character will be embedded with a mecha unit? Really hoping someone starts fansubbing this.

The Miami Vice website (www.miamivice.com) recently posted a big update with a lot of clips and background info. It all looks really promising. 12 days to go...

My friends and I were somewhere in the middle shouting stuff about the 3DO and trying to start a Sega chant. It was a really dumb event. Luckily being drunk and obnoxious helped mnake it tolerable. Although a couple guys in front of me kept telling me to shut up about Halo 2 because they were trying to listen to the debate.

Patlabor 2 The Movie Limited Collector's Edition
yellowlightman replied to Penguin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, naturally. Yours is entitled "heresy". 416209 Nothing but talking heads for two hours = boring. Telling instead of showing = boring. I like Oshii films more than the average person, but P2 really pushes it for me. -
Patlabor 2 The Movie Limited Collector's Edition
yellowlightman replied to Penguin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I saw Patlabor II at Anime Expo and shortly thereafter tried to cancel my pre-order for the LE. I had forgotten how absolutely BORING Patlabor 2 is. Alas, Overstock.com doesn't allow for cancelations so I was SOL. Still a nice boxed set, though, and I really dig the archive book. -
If You Had A Say, What Mecha Franchise Would
yellowlightman replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
BGC Motoslaves would be great. Maybe some Boomers as well, a Doberman would be bad ass. -
I didn't take any pictures. I did record this, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYhNXFRj4Ks. (http://www.fansview.com is usually a good place to look for con pictures)

So why don't you? Backup all this talk about what a stud you are and your high standards of the opposite sex. Do you tell them you're a moderator on an internet forum devoted to a 25 year old cartoon before or after you ask for a girls number?
-
Post some pictures of all the hot women you've hooked up with. I bet their a LOT better looking than these uglies.

I liked Space Ghost Coast to Coast, is that show still on? I can't stand most dubbed anime, so I never watch AS for that. Aqua Teen is about the only original programming from AS I enjoyed and outside of that I'd rather just pop in the Wonder Showzen DVD than watch any of Cartoon Network's "comedy" programs.

Read the quote from Wikipedia. It's a controlling share.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the last part of that sentence... 414215 And yet they can still run a car company better than any American and many Japanese companies.

Is There An Online Macross Line Art Archive?
yellowlightman replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
Uh no, The Design Works, This Is Animation and other Macross sourcebooks have loads of lineart. More than enough to justify the prices even if you can't read Japanese.
