New enhanced version of the 1995 film by Mamoru Oshii ANN Link 1 ANN Link 2 Before and After Comparisons Streaming Teaser Considering how good it looked originally, seems really unnecessary to add a bunch of 3D and special effects to it. Still, I'll probably see it in theatres when it comes out here next month.

Animation Quality of Macross Frontier
yellowlightman replied to Zinjo's topic in Movies and TV Series
You may want to take off your fanboy blinders. I love BGC to a ridiculous degree, but the animation is old and not really up to par. That said, it's pretty unfair to compare the animation quality of a 3D title vs. an old 2D title, as anime is notoriously poorly animated (notable exceptions include Akira and Ghibli films). That said in terms of detail (not fluidity of animation), CCA or 0083 certainly outshine Frontier. Do you get payoffs now, Graham? Because that's a load of ****. The character animation in Frontier is HILARIOUSLY poor. The consistency in designs is awful, and most of the time they end up looking like poor fan art renditions of already boring character designs. There's a big difference between detail, consistency and actual ANIMATION. Animation is movement, just because a character is drawn with a lot of fancy coloring and set against a detailed background does not mean it's "well animated." -
Southern Cross Spartas Backpack
yellowlightman replied to mechaban's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Notice how the original poster mentioned he found it in an old issue of Protoculture Addicts? Looks like line art from Southern Cross, in any case. If for no other reason than it's not shitty enough to be the kind of fanart PA had back in those days. -
The Xbox 360 Thread Pro Edition

That's the thing... it's fine for flight sims and the like, but for whatever it just doesn't 'click' with me if it's a person on foot. Oh well... -

Well, you're lucky then. I really, really wanted to play it but for whatever reason I can't handle look inversion on anything other than aircraft. -
Considering the normal retail is around 8000yen, I'd say that's not too bad. And yes, the price is in Japan. Cheapest I've seen so far here. Also, the G-Fighter is lame and a waste of space and just an excuse to bump up the price. So lack of accessories in this case is a good thing.

I've been seriously considering getting one of those... especially after finding the RX-78 Char Custom for about 5000yen.

I'm amazed you can even play Gun Valkyrie. The fact that you couldn't change the look inversion ensured I played it for about five minutes and then put it on the shelf never to be played again... -

Looks like the Hover Tank had originally been planned to be able to transform into all three modes? That Rick Hunter costume is scary as fart. -
Aside from Jumbo Grade, FIX Figuration/Zeonography is my favorite line of Gundam toys, even if Katoki manages to piss all over the original designs. The toys aren't too expensive, good detail, lots of cool variations you don't often see. The Deep Striker is absolutely awesome.

I already mentioned the attempted rape scene as awkward and unnecessary. However, as I already pointed out nothing was shown and nothing happened, so while weird uncomfortable was not the typical ideal of fan service. I'm not really sure what you mean by that. Here it is in review: the bathing scene in Dynamite 7 was not that. It was not exploitive, and certainly no worse than the shower scenes in the TV series and DYRL (which had close shots of an underaged girl showering, for chrissakes). And as Renato points out, just because the bouncing boobs and fanservice has been around for a long time does not justify it's inclusion in every episode of Macross Frontier.
-
Nudity does not equal exploitive, as it's about how it's presented. When a 12 year old cartoon girl is illustrated as bathing and shown as a centerfold in Megami... that's exploitive. When a girl gets in a hot springs and the camera doesn't zoom into her naughty bits or otherwise portray the act is inappropiate... that's not exploitive. Plus, the whole thing about Japanese bathing. Not to mention the fact that the only thing Basara had a boner for in Dynamite was space whales. Ugh, and not to mention the shower scenes in SDF:M and DYRL. Which were far more exploitive than the bathing scene from Dynamite. Congratulations for missing the point.
-
And again, that bathing scene was not exploitative I mean... Basara was just as naked as she was. It was about as exploitative as the bath scene in Totoro (except that was a threesome... oohhh~~). Compare this to the boob touching, the CONSTANT boob bouncing, the vibrating cell phone gag and the panties scene. The rape scene was odd and completely unnecessary, but considering nothing transpired on screen (or even off screen), I fail to see how it was exploitative. Odd story telling yes, exploitative, no.

I believe those are the random box toys Yamato solicited a year or two ago but never released...

Uh, there was no rape. There was attempted rape, which in itself is bit odd I'll bit! But despite Elma being cute, I'm not sure where you get the fanservice bit from. She isn't exploited in the same way that every single female character in Frontier is.

I think it actually looks quite a bit like the AV-98 from the TV series, with the larger upper body. Amusing that it's using the movie license, though.

Lost treasure trove of Stoudio Nue mech designs?
yellowlightman replied to danth's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Considering that both Palladium and Dungeons & Dragons have been around for a long time with awful rules sets, I'd say it's quite possible! I'd actually be interested in seeing that, why not just post it in the thread? -
And yet Macross Frontier has at least one retarded "pervert" joke every episode. Oh man, he touched her boob and she got angry. Hilarious! Oh man his phone rang and she got turned on. Hilarious!

Thats fan art? Looks distinctively Mikimoto.

The PlayStation 3 Thread 80GB Edition
yellowlightman replied to Gaijin's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
That is absolutely not how it works. You don't get anything from achievements except gamerscore. It's not a huge deal, but it's fun and tends to be a good excuse to go back and replay the game... It's kind of the same thing as people trying to get 100% complete ratings in games. -
Dragon Ball movie rescued from dev hell?
yellowlightman replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm kind of amazed that you of all people, who absolutely hates terible dubs, actually enjoys that crap. Just because it's in Japanese does not make it good. Ugh. -
If that show was accurate you're probably best off finding a new hobby. And friends. Or suicide!
-
All three were loose, with all accessories and what looked like unused stickers. 3000yen a piece. If I were to get one, it'd be the Strong Bracchus. How are the joints on that one?

The MW Automotive Thread 3.0
yellowlightman replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ugh, yeah, I want to own a French car like I want VD but it was still an unusual find. One nice thing about Japan is that for the most part every old car you see still running is in REALLY good condition, because of the fees they charge for driving older cars if you want an old one you really want have to want it. Saw this guy today: -
So uh, I found a three of the 1/12 scale VOTOMS toys for insanely cheap, no box. The Strong Bacchus, Scopedog and Purple Scopedog. I like the VOTOMS designs a lot (especially the Strong Bacchus). How good are these toys? Someone talk me into buying them.
