The MW Automotive Thread 3.0
yellowlightman replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Take two cool cars and put them together and you get one insanely boring video. Whoever was narrating that needs to go back to reading the bullet points for the weekly A/V Club meetings. -
1993 was a "rough spot" in anime?
-
Well, maybe 10 years ago. Not anymore.
-
The only time live-action adaptions of anime are acceptable is when they're made in Japan, because things from Japan are always better. Come on, you should know this. EDIT: Looks like they've already released some shots of the VHS cover.

Sorry to butt in, but a word about the BBQ. MWCon tried it for a year or two, and while the food was great, it invariably meant someone had to spend the whole con outside cooking. Pizza might not be gourmet, but it's easy and relatively cheap and sometime that counts for a lot in these kind of events. If you haven't yet I'd recommend shooting a PM to Solscud007 or kiririth, as both of them have experience from planning the Macross World Cons.

It's Ninja Scroll... I mean, not exactly some amazing piece of high art. Call me when Hollywood wants to adapt Royal Space Force. That said, it'll probably never gonna happen and it's not like DiCaprio is going to break into your house and break your DVD of Ninja Scroll, so who cares if it gets adapted.

Uh, it's a car? Seriously, when I first saw Casino Royale in theaters half the audiencet (dumb college students) gasped when the Aston Martin got totalled. Sure, it'd be one thing if it was a rare or unusual car... but a modern production car, who the hell cares?

I'm not sure how a single art book release translates into a toy or model release of a very obscure mecha seen for all of 5 seconds throughout the series.

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)

Coming from the guy who used to troll Robotech message boards... truly an unbiased opinion. -
LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
yellowlightman replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's ridiculous dude. Just because people still like Robotech doesn't mean they don't know of it's origins, nor does it mean they think Robotech is the "correct" version. I've known plenty of Robotech fans who were big fans of Robotech and Macross, and knew all about their respective origins. But hey, how about those Macross fans who still act so butthurt over a dumb cartoon and some crappy toys they couldn't buy from way back when? -

The two Entertainment Bibles covering ARTMIC should have some stuff too. -
Straight from Kawamori's mouth ...
yellowlightman replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
No, but my point is that both are just as creatively bankrupt. You're still remaking something that doesn't need to be remade when you could be spending that money on new projects. A really good example of that is the new Evangelion movies. -
Yeah, there's some lineart of the powered armors in the first one (entertainment bible #6).

A theatrical remake of a TV series isn't much better than a clip show, really. -

Fooke sounds pretty close to Fuke. Not an ideal romanization, but it's easy to see how someone could romanize is like that. -
Yeah, I'm still considering getting one... maybe if I can find a used to discounted one somewhere around Tokyo. I might be an unusual case though in that I like big toys (Jumbo Grade Gundam's are awesome) and don't mind paying for a nice display piece. On the other hand, I'm not a huge Ingram fan, but if I was to get one this might be it.

Ditto... Macross 7 was far from perfect, but the characters (Basara, mostly) were awesome.

Straight from Kawamori's mouth ...
yellowlightman replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
I found it odd that they completely skipped over Macross 7 when they were going through Kawamori's past works. Was a cool event though, I just wish I had been able to understand more of what he said. -
As far as I've heard, I'm in something of the minority in believing that Frontier isn't, in fact, the greatest anime in recent memory. I know people have been posting up positive reviews of the series but I'm curious if anyone has seen any negative commentary on the series? For what's worth, one of the guys (not me) on Colony Drop wrote up his comments on the ending of the series, which are pretty negative: http://www.colonydrop.com/index.php/2008/1...d-the-en?blog=1

Halo 3 and CoD4 for an FPS fix. Earth Defense Force and Crackdown are good budget games, both are a lot of fun in co-op. Lost Planet should be cheap by now and has a pretty interesting single player mode, plus an underrated online mode. Lots of good Xbox Live Arcade titles... -

Robotech: The Macross Saga sourcebook
yellowlightman replied to AlexM80's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I doubt that problem will ever be fixed. Sounds like these new Robotech RPG releases are a big disappointment. Some new art, new size and the same crappy rules. Would it kill them to at least fix the bugs in it? I don't think any other company in the industry has gone as long as Palladium has without a revision. -
The All Things Video Games Thread!
yellowlightman replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Not gonna argue with that. I basically stopped shopping at Gamestop unless the game was brand new and still shrink wrapped, otherwise you're liable to get a "new" game that's already been opened and used as a display. eBay or half.com is the better bet for selling your games, although most games depreciate so quickly now you're better off just keeping them.
