  1. He's still around, posts quite a bit actually. Which convention reports are you looking for? The ones from Hobby Fest and whatnot from this past August? He posted them, I don't remember which section though.
  2. It was in an interview in Animerica, sometime aroudn May of last year. I don't remember his exact phrasing (didn't bother to buy it, just read it in the store) but he definately hinted at not caring about the continuity anymore, because by ignoring it it allowed him to create more original and interesting work. Not to say he's totally forsaken it, but rigidly adhearing to it isn't a top priority of his.
  3. Just a quick update guys, I checked out my bandwidth info for this month (September) for all of my sites combined I only went a little over 1gig. I have a 12 gig limit so we're good to go, no need to worry about cutting back, right now anyways. Come January I'll probably be upgrading to their next highest service which will double my space and my bandwidth, which will be even sweeter. Great works your guys, keep it up!
  4. The Appleseed OVAs was one of the first anime titles I ever saw, but I don't think I ever liked it very much. Can't remember if I read the manga before or after I first saw it... I've heard Black Magic m-66 was decent, only animation to ever involve Shirow, but I've never seen it. I liked the GiTS movie, it's grown on me over time although I wasn't too crazy about it when I first saw it in theatres. I think it's important to remember the GiTS movie isn't a Shirow work, it's a Oshii work. Oshii asked Shirow to let him do it how he wanted, and Shirow gave him the okay. Personally I like Oshii movies more for the feel and setting than the story itself, because the story and themes of the GiTS movie didn't do much for me. I'm surprised they're going to fo a new Appleseed series, it's so... 80's in it's source materials, i dunno how well it'd do in today's market.
  5. LOL, hey Sean. If you're a big Shirow fan and would want to compare I'll lend them to you... just don't return it like all Colonel Sanders and crap... I hope that doesn't mean what I think it means. But if it does, I suppose the joke was bound to come up sometime during the dicussion of "adult" manga.
  6. Whats the name of the book? *cough* For reference purposes, you understand...
  7. I agree that he's took a turn for the worst, the scene that was edited out of GiTS:MMI was hardcore pornography, not nearly as "tame" as the scene from the first GiTS. That said the last Shirow book I read was Black Magic, which was interesting. I liked seeing his roots, as it's obvious to see how long he's been using the same ideas and themes... And seeing Shirow draw a Gundam in-joke is pretty hilarious.
  8. It doesn't help when Kawamori himself has states he doesn't care about continuity anymore, so be wary of that. Also keep in mind this is a new series, the old destroids are well known and people are used to them. They need to make new destroids and variable fighters to sell new models and toys, it's a merchandise thing. As for he whole Edo thing, don't expect Macross Fanboy to know who he is. That was way before his time... Before my time.
  9. It is region free, or else you wouldn't be able to play any of it at all. Most likely the DVD has a burn error or there's a problem with your DVD player. Why not try to return the DVD first?
  10. My first Valk was a 1/100 Takatoku VF-1A. I stole it from one of my friends in second grade as retaliation for him stealing the head of one of my Transformers. It didn't have any arms. It wasn't until I saw the cover of the Robotech role-playing game in one of my friend's Marvel comics I realized it wasn't a regular Transformer, and took a few years after that for me to figure out what Robotech was and anime in general.
  11. Very nice picture akt, I really like the coloring... Reminds me of 80's style anime work with the soft water colors. Can't wait to see more of your work.
  12. Bleh, it's just a pain in the ass. Replaying boring levels to kill 500 battle pods, that's not fun.
  13. I loved the plastic screens you put over the screen to "change" the graphics. Loved playing my friend's old Vectrex when I was little.
  14. Heh, I must be only person who liked the Virtual Boy... Sort of. Mario Tennis and that shooter were kinda fun and with headphones you were able to block out everything around you, and felt more immersed in the game... Even if it wasjust red and black. What I mean is without the distractions around when you play games on the TV. As for damage, it was dangerous for kids under seven because their eyes or retinas or soemthing aren't finished growing yet, for those older I reccomend you getting a stronger stomach. My vote for newer "worst" gaming platforms: the Nuon and the upcoming Phantom.
  15. Oops, sorry no. I meant they used most of episode I.
  16. I think most of MZ23 wasused, minus the more "mature" stuff. It's been forever since I've seen MZ23 and even longer since I watched my copy of the movie. There was talk about HG releasing the movie, but ack, it's horrible. Even Macek hated it. <_
  17. http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/code/14630.html I dunno if it's possible to unlock everything with a code, but be warned it takes quite a while to do it using the game. I bought the game in October sometime and just finally got around to unlocking everything this summer. <_<
  18. It's more odd when you think about the other GG and Zentraedi ties. Like how GG built the VA-14 as a VF-14 variant especially for Zentraedi pilots. Or how much Q-rau tech went into the YF-21/VF-22. Yeah, I was thinking about that too. I'm guessing the logo was purposely made to resemble the Zentraedi logo.
  19. Nice work Physio, very cool. Glad to see there are some Appleseed fans still around, guess not everyone died waiting for volume five. <_< So, got a Briaeos custom in the works?
  20. Pairing up Mustangs and Ferraris... Kinda like eating with plastic sporks on silver plates. Or some other bettr analogy I can't think of. I definately agree with the Bullitt recommendation, awesome movie, awesome car chase. Why not try to dig up some F1 footage? The F in F1 might as well stand for Ferrari given their dominance, so it shouldn't be too hard to find some video of an open-wheeled Ferrari.
  21. Yeah, it's pretty unimpressive. It's basically a dating sim onboard a ship. You're a valkyrie pilot and have to manage your life (a.k.a. chase ladies) and occasionally do combat "patrols" and fight zentraedi in boring generic RPG battles. If you're interested I have a page about it on my website. I bought it cuz I had a Wonderswan and I was in Japan and it was cheap, not worht chasing after unless you're a collector.
  22. Glad to see more customs being made. Looks like a cool design too, just curious but which episode wasthat screencap from?
  23. Hrmm.. The General Galaxy logo looks kinda similar to the Zentradi crest.
  24. Yep, but as with all things attractive and allows you to speak freely, it was abused to the point that several folks used it like a chatroom. Well, whatever S&G decide, that's where I go, but for now, hopes for an OT thread looks bleak. Isn't a thread, to some extent, a chat room? An OT thread would be no different. I don't see where the problem is. Might take some of the pressure off the OT Forum idea if MW did have an actual chat then. I know there were some AIM chats a month or so ago, but I think those didn't last long. But then again, the whole chat idea is another kettle of fish. Probably would have to be member organized sense I don't think Shawn or Graham has the time for it right now.
  25. Totally agree with you Aegis, I appreciate the Macross mythos as a whole above the individual titles. As for Boomer, while Macross Plus is probably the most popular Macross title among NA fans, it isn't discussed much here because it doesn't effect the ongoing Macross story as a whole. Macross Plus is much more about Isamu, Guld and Myung than about the Protoculture or Earth's wars with the Zentraedi or the colonization efforts after Space War One. This is largely because Macross Plus wasn't originally conceived as a Macross title (Kawamori put it into the Macross series after sponsors wouldn't fund it as an original series). That said, there was a just a big discussion the end of Macross Plus, so it's not like it's forgotten or anything.
