  1. My Atari story is almost the opposite of yours. I wasn't even born when the Atari came out, but a friend of my Dad's gave me an old oen that belonged to her son when I was in 3rd grade or so. I liked it a lot, since at the time I didn't have ANY video game systems. So even if it was the SNES-era, I couldn't tell how crappy the Atari was. But eventually my Dad moved a few times and a coupel of years ago I asked him about the Atari... He'd thrown it away. I had a ton of games for it... Wish I still had it. EDIT: Might want to delete the pic in your sig whiskey, they aren't allowed. It's also trying to make me download a certificate from a US military web site.
  2. I like the 1/55ths a lot. I think to many people they're still appealing because they're actually toys, you can play with them... you can be rough with them, something you can't do so much with Yamatos. Luckily it seems like theres still a few people doing customs, KidK and Skull One recently posted some cool customs. I myself have three VF-1S's sitting under by bed waiting for some custom parts...
  3. The game was quite cool, very fun. Even though it was the PS1 I liked the graphics, they looked like anime long before cell shading became popular. Wish I hadn't sold it, I heard it's pretty rare now...
  4. First of all, read what forum you're in. It's the Other Science Fiction & Anime. Second of all I consider myself a Robotech fan, and I dont have an account at Robotech.com. I don't care much for HG or their toadlings, so when I do wanna post about Robotech I hang out on the "other" Robotech message board. I don't see people jumping on topics when people post Gundam in a "Macross board." Get over it. Don't like the topic, don't post in here. Grow up. Act like an adult, don't be an ass.
  5. The ant in Honey I Shrunk the Kids was pretty big, by comparison I mean. It's all relative. Check out the IMDB, although I tried searching and their search system sucks.
  6. Wow, how fast this thread has turned to Vostok and Abombz needing to get a room and discussion of porno. Do we sense imminent lock-down? I hope not. Back to more Shirow-specific discussion, has anyone seen those airsoft guns based on Shirow's gun designs? Those look pretty sweet, expensive though. Or howabout the Shirow-designed computer mouse? I was considering buying it, but $70 for a mouse seems a tad high.
  7. Meanwhile the real boys race WRC. Tests the driver a lot harder than F1 or Nascar, IMHO. And you can actually own the kind of cars they race in, unlike "stock" cars. Back on topic, I think in some ways it's hard to classify the "best" console. Because you have consoles with really innovative games (NES, N64), consoles with just a bunch of great games (PS1) and consoles with a few but really amazing games (DC).
  8. Looks good, I would suggest darkening the lines on the whole thing, using the contrast or something. It'd look a lot better than the light grey lines currently there.
  9. Get over it. If you don't like Robotech, don't click on the thread.
  10. Macek started working at ADV relatively recently, sometime after working with them on the Robotech DVDs. But ADVs bad rep goes back way farther than that. Using the excess cash they made from soft-core porno titles to buy choice "regular" titles and disapoint fans.
  11. That Stealth scheme is very, very cool. Someone should make a custom of that.
  12. Very cool stuff, your work is getting way better. The originality of the "surfing" YF-19 is very cool. Keep up the good work!
  13. A lot of people buy Macross items no matter what. Take your time and research your purchases, lots of reviews and info to find on all but the most obscure of Macross products. Even for those with jobs $150 is a lot to drop on a toy, thats why you gotta do your research and decided if it's worth it to you. Lessons learned, don't worry about it too much.
  14. Seeing as how martial arts movies have been around for about 60 years, I doubt they'll stop any time soon. The rebirth of martial arts movies (or should we say the birth of Matrix-rip offs) were largely because of the popularity of the Matrix, which in itself was just a slight modernization of techniques use in Hong Kong cinema for a couple of decades. Jackie Chan's crap-tastic American movies certainly didn't help, nor did Jet Li's. <_< But Police Story is still amazing, gimme that over anything made in the past five years.
  15. Could be wrong, but I think it's a Bandai Macross 7 VF-19S or VF-19Kai. Guessing the fast packs are made out of heavy cardstock or styrene. Looks like a cool custom, how sturdy are the fast packs and such? Do they fall off during transformation?
  16. Ironic that such an original guy would resort to the overdone tentacle rape plot twist. I think more than likely he's just doing what he likes; drawing pretty girls. Doing pin ups and short sequences is a lot less work than a big manga series, so I'm sure in that way he really appreciates it. Probably at the point in his life where he can pick and chose his work at this point anyways, I'm sure he made quite a bit of money between Appleseed, Dominion Tank Police and Ghost in the Shell.
  17. A.I. was kind of like spitting on the grave of Kubrick, horrible horrible movie. I disliked Speilburg's Minority Report, I thought that was really overhyped too...
  18. And hopefully it won't be an overdone CG splooge fest. Would be interesting though, Appleseed to be is his precise black and white drawings from the 80's. Seeing Deunan & Co. in his current CG style might be... weird.
  19. I think there's been three, but don't quote me on that. The trailer's too short, and shows nothing... But it's nice to see there's gonna be a new Mecha Godzilla. Combination of my favorite two parts of Japanese sci-fi: the giant robot and the guy in the rubber suit. I used to be a big Godzilla/tokusatsu fan, so I have an enduring love for giant monsters, no matter how cheesey the movie is. Gimme Godzilla rampaging through Tokyo over 95% of American sci-fi movies any day.
  20. I'm really not one to criticise for being kinky or "adult," but that stuffis pure fan service. Really, really well drawn fan service, but pointless fan service none the less. Now that I think about it, in a way it kind of sums up what we've all said. His current work doesn't quite have the intengrity that his amazing skills deserves, or soemthing like that. And that girl taking a bath with the horse freaks the hell out of me. Seriously, that's weird.
  21. While I'd mostly agree to that, Sony's money and the N64's late debut also played a role in developers jumping ship. I'd even wager some hard feelings left over from Nintendo monopoly days might have played a role, the new guy will always look good by comparison. Frankly though, looking back on my N64 and PS1 (got the N64 December of '96, the PS1 September of '97) the N64 was played a lot more. Zelda 64, Goldeneye, Turok: Rage Wars, Perfect Dark, Paper Mario... I spent way more time in front of the N64 than I did the PS1, probably had to do with the fact multi-playing was a way of life for my friends and the PS1 couldn't deliver in that respect.
  22. IGN tends to be questionable in it's reporting, but at least it's a good sign. Wish they had gotten more in detail on it, but what can you expect. Hell, they even apologized for mixing up Robotech and Macross.
  23. Whats teh story behind this and the "other" Minmay guard design? I think the other one (dark blue) looks a lot better. Was it some sort of special decal set, or a total custom?
  24. I think his fans woudl appreciate Appleseed 5 more. Other than GiTS:MMI he hasn't bene doing much other than (as you said) pin up work and short little works, not the longer narrative stuff he used to do.
  25. No, this interview was definately in Animerica, but he probably said the same thinsg in both interviews. I never said he was re-writing anything, just that with future Macross works he probably won't be paying as much attention to the continuity as we would like.
