  1. How are the 2 Fast 2 Furious too violent? They're cars? Might as well mention all the Matchbox toys as well, yeesh. Violently ugly yes, but not violent per se.
  2. I never dismissed anything, I was just asking. I just never saw the 5th Element as an anime-influenced movie, especially because a lot of the story Luc Besson claimed to create when he was a teenager.
  3. I was considering picking it up, but I rented the previous MOH and it sucked - big time. Guess I'll read soem reviews and see.
  4. Seems like we're definately enjoying the second age of Macross. Can't wait to see what this new series has to offer.
  5. Damn, I could have sworn you were younger. Sorry about that!
  6. Check out www.animesuki.com, they seem to keep pretty up to date with fansubbed bit torrent releases.
  7. The main problem with anime music videos is that 99% of them suck. The idea of just editing video from anime to music you like is pretty lame, and while it might be fun to do I've found it really boring to sit through. The best videos are those that get really creative with the use of digital editing and effects. For a good example of that see 'Chibi Things That Kill,' you should be able to find it on Kazaa. But other than original videos like that, anime music videos are lame. BTW, Macross Fanboy, how can you be in the military? I thought you were like 14?
  8. How was The 5th Element anime-based? If anything it seemed based more on European comics, especially with Mobius doing some of the design work.
  9. Awesome work, are you gonna color it?
  10. I had forgotten about Zatoichi, those movies are really cool. All... 30 of them or whatever, they made so many. I've only seen the first Samurai movie, and I liked it a lot. Very cool if you've read the book, though not many have since it's pretty unknown and weighs in at something like 900 pages.
  11. Or even better, one of the many many chanbarra samurai films from the 60's and 70's. Akira Kurasawa's stuff is a good place to start.
  12. I can't figure out if this is a joke that isn't funny or something serious that's just dumb.
  13. That's some nice hair. Very cool, one of the few people that can make that flight suit look sexy.
  14. Er, I'm pretty sure it was confirmed it's going to be an hour long CG movie.
  15. This months GMR mentioned Bobobobo-whatever. Apparently the GBA game basedon it realsed a year or two ago allows you to play the entire game backwards, from last level to first. I guess that's a first, I dunno. Random knowledge.
  16. So that pic isn't photoshopped? Kinda cool.
  17. Very cool Alex, glad to see you're among the posting again. She looks very Shirow, I think it's the eyes and hair. Very nice, either way. And I agree it should be colored!
  18. It'd also be nice if every hero and heroines since FF7 didn't look the damn same. Granted, Cloud wasn't quite the pretty boy that Squall and his successors were, but they really need to get out of their funk of having the lead characters so similar. Square I think is a good company, but in terms of innovation and game design they're vastly overrated. They're much better at making pretty CG and interesting stories (sometimes). But I love Front Mission too much to really dislike them, and FFT was pretty decent.
  19. One of the main reasons they didn't remake FF7 was because FF7 is still easily played on the PS2, and wouldn't make much sense to re-do it... now, anyways.
  20. I already have the first release DVDs, and rematered footage and a few extra clips isnt gonna make this new set any more worth it. If they bothered to include some cool extras, it might almost be. But my budget for DVDs is small enough already. I kinda hope this re-release tanks, might teach them to not pull crap like this again.
  21. Not to sound like a typical film student, but it's a shame you've been raised on typical Hollywood crap to the point were you don't have the patience to watch a decent movie. Sci-fi doesn't have to be filled with battling starships and laser guns, you know. But I guess big robots blowing crap up is cooler than an actual attempt at a story and one of the best edited and most visually impressive films of all time.
  22. They have some buildings listed on their Japanese site (www.katomodels.com) but no pictures.
  23. Harmony Gold owns the restored footage, don't they? Since Animeigo licensed the Macross sets through HG, I wouldnt be surprised if ADV used it.
  24. Thats not Roy, thats one of the guys from the Anti-UN group. Name currently escapes me at the moment, however.
  25. Fan fiction has been a big part of aniem internet fandom, dating back to the days when USENET was the big thing. I think fan fiction popularity has dwindled a bit, but compared to other series Macross lacks any substancial amount of it. Series like Robotech, Ranma 1/2 and Bubblegum Crisis all have tons of the stuff. macross doesn't. Anyone have any idea why? I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that Macross fandom didn't really congregate until the collapse of Robotech fandom around 2000, which was long past the fall in popularity of USENET, which had fostered most fan fiction works. I just find it odd, especially in Macross World that there's no real fan fiction being written. Lots of fan art, custom toys and models, and 3D models... but no fan art. Maybe because it isn't 'cool?' I have no idea... I'm just thinking out loud. Anyone else have any ideas?
