I lurked a little on Gundam.com back in the day, but I always preferred the GML for my Gundam fix. Less riff-raff and more mature/knowledgable people.

New Live Action Thunderbirds!
yellowlightman replied to VF-1S Alpha's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think we just had a thread about the new Thunderbirds a few weeks ago, but the general consensus seemed to be "yuck." I liked the original. Marionette stuff is awesome, but I also really dig older monster movies and Power Rangers stuff. On a purely visceral level there's something appealing about guys in monster suits, and cool models and that general low budget sci-fi feel without being obviously crappy. -
That's such BS, they should produce more if there's a desire for it. Trying to make it some rare collectible piece when lots more people want it doesn't make any business sense; so maybe there's hope yet they'll do a second run. Sorry man.

Interesting Zentradi website...
yellowlightman replied to 1st Border Red Devil's topic in Movies and TV Series
I foudn that site a few months ago when I was doing research for a Zentraedi page on my own site (shameless plug). Although a lot of it was in Japanese, I thought it was pretty cool... definately a more unique approach to a fansite than we're used to here in the states. And I gotta say the fanart ain't that bad at all, maybe not professional level but it's cool to see a fan make an effort to create something original for a fansite. -
I'm so out of the RPG loop, what is Hunter: The Reckoning? Er, the story I mean. The last time I paid any attention to the World of Darkness it was just Vampire, Werewolf, Mage and Changeling. Either way I hope it does better than other past RPG-based movies or TV series (The D&D movie or the Vampire TV series, anyone?). Wasn't there recently a video games based on Hunter?

Looks okay... I guess. The robot modes of Transformers aren't exactly known for their good looks. Er, at least not to me.

The big Masamune Shirow appreciation thread
yellowlightman replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I had my doubts about this, but the trailer really changed my mind. It looks really sharp and loads better than your regular cell-shaded movie. My only gripes were the colors. Maybe it's just my imagination, but Appleseed always seemed to be a world with a lot of greys, browns and greens... Not all these bright primary colors. But maybe I just prefer an 80's anime aesthetic... The city scapes also looked too... GiTS, I dunno, kind of irked me. -
My Quick Custom Humvee Labor Command Car
yellowlightman replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Cool little custom. Though I shudder to think what it'd be like to drive a hummer in Japan. Those streets are TINY. -

Dunno if peopel have already seen this, but its a first time for me. NCS just put up pics of soem new Appleseed gashapons coming out, here: http://www.ncsx.org/2004/ncs011904/x_appleseed.htm I'm guessing they're based on the new movie coming out, since i don't recognize the whip-toting cyborgs. -
Colonel Sanders leads Robotech into 2004!
yellowlightman replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
And surrender to HG? I don't think so. Yeah, don't surrender... because HG is out to kill you. Some people take cartoons waaaay too seriously. I'm wondering who they're gonna get to write this new series, if it's Yune and his cronies my expectations are definately lowered. As it is, HG has a hard enough time putting together a legitimate comic book, god forbid a Tv series. Wasn't Tatsunoko involved int he planning and story of The Sentinenls? I remember Carl Macek in Robotech Art III complaining about them wanting to focus too much on the newer characters rather than Rick, Max and Lisa. -
Retail Half Life 2 pirated in Russia
yellowlightman replied to Tristan Lindo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Every industry has their stale period, things always work in cycles. I'm sure in the future, MSW would probably see the types of games he likes start to get stale. My personal belief, however, is that there's room in this world for eveybody's likes, so I say keep all types of games coming! It isn't so much the genres themselves, just that the majority of games are just unoriginal rehashes of previosu games. Games that actually innovate and try to break out of genres, try new things, those games are far and few between. It's dispointing considering all this new technology that's capable of so much, and yet these FPSs and RPgs are pretty much the same games they were 10 years ago. -
The big Masamune Shirow appreciation thread
yellowlightman replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
From the link, it looks like it's not a movie... just a live action commercial, right? Definately is something I'd like to see, I'm surprised it's not already on the net. Anyone have it on video? I'd probably be able to encode it, or at the very least provide some hosting space for it. -
That sucks Prime, I always hate having to go back and re-do things like this, but it sounds like it might work out for the better. Keep working on the game, I'm definately interested in seeing it completed.

I think the bigger problem, as has already been said, is that Macross manga misses out on one huge part of Macross: music. Losing such an important aspect of a series in manga form, really counts against any substancial Macross manga being made.

Colonel Sanders leads Robotech into 2004!
yellowlightman replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Heh.... actually...according to B-Club's Artmic Design Works the proper term is Invid. Of course...there are references to Robotech in the same work...so I dont know if Robotech "contaminated" the people who wrote that. B and V are basically the same in Japanese, so it's more a matter of how you want to spell it. I think Invid is a bit easier to pronounce than Inbit, and certainly sounds better in English. I'm still doubtful over the idea of Tatsunoko using the new Robotech series as a Mospeada sequel in Japan. It's too old, with too little fans. Not to mention if they dont use the alterntive universe/retelling of the original story route, you're gonna have a whole lot of kids who've never heard of Mospeada going 'WTF?' -
I've only read a bit of M7 Trash, so I can't really make too much of a comment on it's quality. The plto seemed interetsing enough, but I guess in typical manga style it got dragged out. Interestingly, Mikimoto made a comment in an old interview that the game with the hover shoes was included as a replacement for the music element of Macross, since music is a hard thing to express in words and pictures. I'd be interested in seeing soem Macross doujinshi, but it seems like most of that is of the pronographic nature, so I suppose that's a long shot.

Colonel Sanders leads Robotech into 2004!
yellowlightman replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
And the conspiracy theorists come out.... Seriously, it looks just like the slides HG uses at the Anime Expo and SDCC Robotech panels. They've already mentioned plenty of times before Tatsunoko was involved, so there's no reason anyone would create a hoax like this. Tatsunoko and HG are on good standing, afterall it was Tatsunoko who sold the rights to Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada to HG in the first place, along with doing soem of the pre-production and animation for The Sentinels. -

Looks like I might be waiting for the TPB too, given everyone's response to it. It's okay, I just re-read Appleseed 1 & 2 after a few years so I've satiated my Shirow for a while. -
Looking for a UNS logo sticker for my car!
yellowlightman replied to Axelay's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I had 2 cars really!!!?? haha this is news to me haha. Yellowlightman perhaps you mean my first scheme was messed up after a lady hit my car and puched me into abenz so when teh car was fixed they removed the decals and painted my car. Then i turned it into a more subdued and subtle VFEX Really? Damn, I thought it was two seperate cars. Never mind then. -
Mospeada was done by Anime Friend. Yeah, but considering Amano did the initial designs, look how far they deviated... Can you imagine having to animate in Amano's style? That'd be painful and almost impossible with a budget for a mid-80's TV series.

Looking for a UNS logo sticker for my car!
yellowlightman replied to Axelay's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't think so, but I know of four Macross-themed cars. Nick (solscud) had two, maybe he could post pictures. There was an Integra show car that was done up Macross-style. At MWCon3 there was a lurker's car parked out front that had some Macross themed stuff on it, but I don't know the name of the owner. Oh yeah, and A7 had some custom Macross NASCAR cars for a video game he designed, looked pretty cool. Most of that stuff should be available if you search. -
So this is a streaming video type deal? Sounds cool man. You getting paid for it?

A whole bunch of high quality aniem is animated in Japan, so that's a pretty ridiculous thing to say. You'd be hard pressed to find an aniem series or movie that wasn't at least partially animated in Korea. Not to mention the fact that their are some damn good Korean animation studios. I'd advise you to check out the movie Wonderful Days, it'll make you rethink your opinion on Korean animators.

Colonel Sanders leads Robotech into 2004!
yellowlightman replied to ComicKaze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It might be released as such in Japan, but the origins of it's creation are definately going to be Robotech. It's looking liek it's going to be a Sentinels type production, where the story and scripts are handled by HG and the animation is handled by Tatsunoko. There's no way Tatsunoko woudl go out of it's way to make a sequel to Mospeada if the bulk to the finances weren't being taken care of by somebody else (i.e. HG). Mospeada was mildly successful, but making a sequel to a TV series almost 20 years old doesn't make good business sense. However, with HG using the series as a sequel to Robotech, Tatsunoko would be able to release it as a sequel to Mospeada with lesser risk of financial loss. Assuming it even gets released as Mospeada, which I doubt will happen. Not to mention a direct sequel to a series that old isn't done in Japan. Far more often you see either a remake or a rehashed alternative universe type story (see Bubblegum Crisis 2040).
