  1. I grew up watching those and I loved them, still do so I'm a little unsure about this new movie. I've actually been reading the entire series off-and-on the last few months so I'm a bit excited about the movie, just hoping it won't suck.
  2. Might want to edit that sub-title...
  3. Kawamori has stated in interviews that he's a big Stanley Kubrick fan, so similarities between Macross and 2001 aren't really surprising. Macross Plus had a lot of visual homages/influences to the 2001 movie, mostly in the Sharon Apple concert on Eden and with Sharon's red eye.
  4. Actually, I've always had a problem with this line of reasoning. I mean it's only what about 20 years difference between the PT and OT and in 20 years, design aesthetics don't generally change that much, that quickly. Using real world examples, it's 2005 now, but 20 years ago in 1985 we still see a lot of the same planes, cars etc as we do today. Boeing 747 yep, F-15 Eagle yep, Porsche 911 yep all in use 20 years ago, all still in use and/or being manufactured to this day. Graham The same could be said for Macross, where we've seen a huge amount of different variable fights in a relatively short amount of time. The truth, inevitably, is that styling changes are representative of sponsorship interests (gotta sell toys) and changing real worth aethetics. The series itself gets stuck trying to explain why things look so different.
  5. You're right, the confusion between L's and R's comes when trying to romanize Japanese words. Millia and Miria are pronounced exactly the same: ミリア. Using Japanese romanizations of character names gets confusing, since often the Japanese are inconsistent with how they romanize the names often times just misleading since multiple variations will be used within the same series. Really though guys, both Millia and Miria (and Miriya too, depending on how you pronounce it) are all correct. Just different ways of spelling the same name.
  6. Aeon Flux was a cool series, but I don't remember it being particularly amazing. It was cool there was a mature audiences-oriented cartoon on TV, but AF was no epic masterpeice. In my eyes there's not much of a legacy for the movie to "ruin." Girlfight was a good movie, substancially better than the kind of crap directors who get stuck to these kind of movies usually turn out so I have a feeling it'll be "decent." Even if there isn't enough T&A for the sexually-deprived geeks out there.
  7. Yeah, but it's not Nanashi's work either, really. He scanned it, but he didn't draw it. I'm fine with putting on a small watermark image, but trying to very very hard to prevent people from downloading them and sharing them for something he himself did not create is just a little ridiculous.
  8. Pretty sure thats based on the suits from SF3D/Machinen Krieger.
  9. I'm pretty sure hte pilot of the TV series had Christopher Lambert in it, or at least I seem to remember seeing him in an episode of the TV series. I think the TV series was just too much of a good thing, I mean... every week you had Duncan miraculously bumping into *another* immortal, then these guys are supposed to be pretty rare. I'd occasionally watch episodes of the TV series, but couldn't get into it because it felt forced and kind of hokey.
  10. Yeah, I've been trying to buy an XBox since the weekend before Christmas and didn't manage to find one in my area and until last night. Seems odd that they'd be so hard to find, maybe suppliers/retailers were caught off guard with the holiday demand?
  11. In Japanese, r's and l's are the same sound so Millia and Miria are different romanizations of the same name, Millia seems to be the most commonly used form nowadays. To me, Miriya sounds pretty damn close to Millia/Miria but thanks to it's Robotech origins it's better if you didn't use that one around these parts.
  12. Just curious Nanashi, why do you use the table background tag to display the images instead of a regular image tag?
  13. I have it on VHS somewhere, havent watched in in years though. From what I can remember, they basically edited out all references to the planet Zeist, I think instead they said the main bad guy had time travelling powers? Something ridiculous like that. Saw it twice in theatres, wasn't as bad as the first two sequels. Too much focus on Duncan, but overall a much more spirited effort than anything since the original movie.
  14. That's just mean. I've seen her in person and she's a cutie. after how many drinks? j/k hey i'm not saying shes mean or a bad person, i'm just saying i personally don't find her very attractive. there 3 types of women in the world.... 1, the one i wanna f....these are 9's, 10's 2, the one that can suck my.....these are 7's and 8's 3, the one i wouldn't touch if she paid me...this fits into the busted catagory. 6's and below. *some exceptions can be made* i.e. 2 women who are 6's equal 12 hence better than a 10. i.e. 2 women who are 5's equal 10 hence just as good as a 10. For someone posting on an anime web forum, you certainly have high standards.
  15. The website seems to have zero info on what events theres going to be, but I might check it out. I'm guessing it won't cost anything?
  16. No dub exists? I was under the impression that some theatres showed a dubbed version of GiTS2.
  17. Er, forgot to lock it, Max?
  18. Not necessarily, I watched CCA for the first time before I saw Zeta and I understood it fine. I'd recommend pciking up the original movie trilogy and CCA. Why bother skipping the best, though? CCA wasn't even that exciting. I reccomend the original TV MS Gundam and Z Gundam. Z Gundam rocks, but with ti currently only being available via an expensive boxed set.. for a Gundam newcomer, it might not be the best purchase.

  20. Rather than argue, wouldn't it be easier to just coem to terms with the fact that Lucas DIDN'T have the whole Star Wars saga planned out and obviously is just figuring out the continuity as he goes along?
  21. Ive been watching the movie in bits the last day, but just had to turn it off during the scene on the research platform in the ocean. As much as I wanted to like this movie, the total change in the characters and the contrived plot just killed it for me. The characters more than anything, the dynamic between Bri and Deunan is so different, it's really disapointing. One thing that really appealed to me about Shirow was that his stuff was so not-anime. He avoided using a lot of the cliches of the genre, his characters were intelligent, it's just disapointing to see his work turned into generic anime mush. The re-united lovers, yawn. The repressed memories, ugh. The ESWAT acting like every other anime "military" (getting their mission briefs as they run through dramatically lighted hallways towards their mecha). Just blows, give me Oshi's 120minutes of verbal masturbation any day over this. BUT, I will say I do like the animation. The action scenes are awesome, the land mates look really, really good. And I'll still go see it in theatres, assuming it's playing in my area.
  22. http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/ and http://www.shenmue.com Are good places to start.
  23. I doubt the outcome of SHenmue Online will have much to do with it. The targeted demographics for the Shenmue series and Shenmue Online are quite different, and I doubt there'll be much of an overlap.
  24. To be honest, I liked the original version better. All the extra shading and coloring (Myung's hair for example) doesn't work as well, IMO. Any chance you could post a larger version of the two pics for wallpaper use?
  25. Yeah, but not to sound like an ass JSA, but it sounds like this movie isn't made for oyu generation as it seems to be decidedly kiddie-fare in nature. So.. yeah.
