Any updates ?
-
You know what they say about a project never being finished, only put away until the next modification..
-
Cheers! But I somehow doubt that enough people would be intrested in a 1/350 to get a discount lol. That does not change my desire for one mind you...
-
I have not built one yet.. but judging on the dimensions of the deck measurement it is around 1/20000.

A 430 meter ARMD should run about 17 inches in 1/1000 scale. (430 meters=16,929 inches divided by 1000 =almost 17 inches). And nothing has been discussed about price yet. He is still working on getting the files into Vector format. That is before determining how much materials &Shipping will be before deciding on a price point for the various scales that everyone is after. Shipping on a 1/350 version is going to be ill due to the size requirement. The flight deck has to be a minimum of feet long. It might be easier to just make the vector file for purchase and let us deal with the scaling and materials ourselves.

My 1/350 Cyclops build WIP. The gloss finish led to some focusing issues with my Iphone, I will try to post better pictures tomorrow. The grey dried a lot lighter than expected so I will probably mask it off and paint over it with a darker shade. There are a lot of firsts on this build for me.. First resin kit, first panel line scribing, and first “garage kit” in general. Edit: Added 2 more pictures so it looks less like a lime slug..

Jaw dropping good work. What colors did you use for the airbrushing?
-
Any word on when they will available? I checked HLJ and they dont show up at all.

Looking around on the net I find several instances of it being 430 or 450 meters long. In 1\350 that works out to be 4' and 4'2" (and change, but let’s keep working with whole numbers). In 1/285 (6mm) scale, it works out to 4'11" or 5'2". At that size owning a scale one is pretty much a pipe dream, but would be so awesome.

I would pay good money to get a picture of my mail lady having to try to carry it... she is tiny and is not much taller than 5 foot tall herself lol. I am state side so any chance to avoid international shipping would be grand lol.

If he can get it printed at 1/350 (about 5 foot long by three foot wide) I would be very interested in one for a gaming table centerpiece.

1/350 scale Zentran Bug Eye Scout model kit
AndrewDrexler replied to tundrayeti's topic in The Workshop!
This is really a nice kit.. but the main hull is so heavy I am having issues figuring out how to paint and mount it. -
I saved all of those pictures for reference.. hehe.

Thanks.. its pretty much just a Black Aces scheme. I wanted a color test before I did my Elintseeker and all the 1:285th kickstarter models get here.

Wow my modeling time has evaporated since I started this kit. I had some free time to work on it today, and am up to the gloss sealing stage. Next up is Decals and some weathering. The canopy is just sitting in place so I can work on the pilot some more (its still too sloppy for my tastes).
-
Is it just me, or does it seem odd that this kit is already discontinued according to HLJ?
-
Not a problem, this forum has inspired me in many ways. I did not get much time to work on it over the weekend, but I did mist in a lighter shade of grey that adds in SOME contrast. My air brush was not cooperating but it definitely looks less mono-chromatic now. I should have some time after work tonight to do some work on it. If things go well I will post some more pictures later.

Well I dove into my first Macross kit this evening, a Wave 1:100 VF-1A that I ordered from HLJ on the suggestion of a forum member. The kit was very nice all things considered. I am a little disappointed in the decals offered (it looks like I am going to have to print some up to finish this VF up) but that is really a minor thing. Instructions were surprising clear for being in Japanese. While I did have to refer to the diagrams a few times, they were VERY clear and concise. There is the option to build this kit in the Gerawalk mode with the addition of another kit, I chose to build this in Jet mode only. Build time is about 2 leisurely hours, but a second kit or familiarity with the subject would cut that in half. I probably have about 6-7 hours total in the kit at this point, and its about half way. There are some funky panel lines that need correction and some touch up paint work. The preshading did not show up at all due to my shading color being too close to the bas color. Perhaps a wash or a slight dusting of a lighter color will work. Overall this has been a pleasure to build and paint. For a few evenings work total it is a nice little kit that can serve as a paint scheme or technique practice model without breaking the bank OR making you feel so invested you cant turn back. And now, a few WIP pictures to break up the wall of text. The second one is a little blurry, but the auto focus could not decide what it wanted to focus on.

And, my kit FINALLY arrived from HLJ Saturday afternoon (was not able to open it until last night). It looks pretty straight forward as far as assembly goes. I will definitely be ordering (or printing if my printer is up to it) some custom decals though. I will start a build thread later this week after I have made some progress on it. I just cant express how TINY this kit is.. Even in 1\100 I expected it to be an inch or 4 longer..

Ouch WM, that sucks. On the other hand.. since it is already "ruined", or at least requiring a complete stripping, why don't you make what happens into battle damage. Rough up the bare spots and spray in some sooty black like it has been trailing atmosphere. The use some oil streaks for some directional travel (after it has been glossed or future applied) and it could be the plane that went through heck and back to land.
-
Ahh.. And now I understand what you mean by a different beast lol. For some reason I was thinking solely about painting, assembly never even entered my mind. I am still waiting on my Wave kit from HLJ, so when I am off work tomorrow I will concentrate on my 1:1 mustang painting project hehe.

Ouch, I can imagine the mess that 5 gallons of resin on the floor would cause.. Thanks for the update. -

How is the casting on these going by chance? -
GW is Games Workshop. They are a miniatures\gaming company that puts out Warhammer 40k (among others). Sebastian is correct in that they are bulkier and are designed to be played with as opposed to display pieces. It is not unheard of to drop a GW model from a height of several feet to the floor and have it come out (relatively) unscathed. As to them being a completely different beast, that really depends on the painter. Some people will slop and go with their paint jobs, while others will take their time and add weathering, battle damage, etc. In recent years there has been a big push to incorporate the techniques of scale modelers into the 40k subject matter. Admittedly it is used more for tanks and AFVs than aircraft, but that is changing.

I will start a build thread once the kit gets here. I have been researching color and decal placement etc so it should be a nice straight forward build. I did not realize that the kit would be so small even at 1\100 scale though.
