It is true that the guys who are in the delivery slots for the first four years ain't gonna cancel. The cancellation risks occur for guys who are now suddenly in the same time slots that are available to Airbus. When you push the customers out six months, it has an effect down the road. Customers in the last six months of the queue might suddenly realize that there are open slots with Airbus earlier in the year, and if Airbus offers enough incentives, it might induce the latest takers to switch. The worst case right now is BA that just signed an agreement with Boeing. There are still 12 (or was it 18) more options for 787, those might not be taken up at all. Worse yet, because of the push out, undecided might swing over to Airbus, especially if there are good offers. Effectively that means the break even time for the project is pushed out by at least six months, probably more. And the delay means probably lost business. And lost profits. Remember Airbus is in the same boat with the A380, except they have the advantage of only having to compete with the 747-8I. But that hasn't helped their break even or profitability. There is no threat as far as the first four years worth of customers, the threat emerges further down the road. I am of course assuming that Airbus learned its lesson and the A350 goes out on schedule.

Does that mean Ando is going to be Sulu?
-
Yeah, but unlike the A380, Boeing is banking on the 787 for a good part of their revenue in the next few years. This is much more of a make or break for Boeing than A380 was for Airbus. So, one more slip (if it happens) becomes a real big deal, remember, A380 has something like 170 orders vs 700+ orders for the 787. Any more delays, then there is cancellation risk and an opportunity for A350 to start taking bites out of the Boeing's shares.

And so it begins.... http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/boei...1A9405123DC0%7D Let the penalty round commence.... any bets on whether there is an additional delay? This will kill ANA's idea of using the planes for the Olympics... I wonder how many people at Airbus are laughing their asses off right now.

DAMN IT!!!!!

I'm waiting for either Chekov or Kirk himself. And uh oh, Bennet might be dead... I wonder if this is the company screwing with him, I'm guess that the company knows what's going on with Bennet, they're trying to psyche him out. The Indian is just the conduit for now. As for DL, he's dead eh? What happened? Did he ask for too much money and the writers decide to kill him offscreen? I like the twist with Sylar.... I'm sure he'll weasel his way out.... would be fun.

Oh... wonder if it's sticking around for fleet week. I don't want to drive up from the south bay to see the A380... but who knows... when does it leave?
-
I've no doubt you're right, having flown 1st and business on different airlines, I've also had the experience with economies on all those airlines. And by far, the experience with BA was the worst. As for 1st and business, considering what you're shelling out, I expect to be treated like a king....
-
BA has been hedging their bets for a while now... personally, I couldn't care less what airplane BA picks, I had flown BA once last year, and they're kidding themselves if they think they're the Singapore Airlines of Europe. The service sucked, they lost my bag, and it wasn't even a very long flight.... Stupid BA... By the way, anyone go out to see the A380 in SFO?

I actually hope Petrelli dies at end of season, or better yet in mid season. It would make things more interesting, then it would be a nice balance with heroes and potential villians. It would put Hiro as one of the more powerful characters given his ability to teleport and manipulate time, he would be on par with Sylar at the very least.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion

The interesting part about these Four is how they will continue to interact with the crew, and of course when the cat finally is let out of the bag, how they'll interact with the other seven models (six since we'd have to remove the Bier model). I can see Tigh continuing to be loyal to Adama no matter what, but I think either Tyrol or Sam will crack sooner or later. I wonder which of those two will be the first one outed... unless Tigh gets drunk and confesses to Adama. As for the resurrection thing, I wonder how that would be possible, unless its an entirely different resurrection ship, remember, the other seven have no idea what the final five looks like. So, at the very least, it can't be the same resurrection ship. Which makes you wonder if there might be two groups of cylons. -
I actually think the potential problem with Peter's character is that he is too damned powerful. So, they have to go with these plot devices to make him less of a threat. Last season it was because he was not focused, so he can't control his powers, this season, he can't remember so he might not have full access to his powers. The only one who might have a chance to take down Petrelli so far is the Haitian, provided he can get close enough. Possibly Sylar, but Sylar is limited as he has to eat to gain power, Peter just has to be in the vicinity, and beyond that, Peter probably has the ability to freeze time, something Sylar can't do. I think in the long run, that Petrelli has to die to sort of even out the playing field.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion

I for one am glad for Youtube, I don't have to sit through Flash Gordon in order to watch the two minute episodes. I am curious to see what the old school stuff is about though, that'll be interesting. Will be sorry to see this show go. -
Don't you know, Lockheed was taken over by some key guys from the old Fairchild company, and they're gradually morphing the F-16 to the A-10. Soon that intake is going to sport a large gatling gun....

Best Main Battle Tank in The World
kalvasflam replied to Ratchet's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ah, WWII, the great tank battles in Kursk, Kharkov, and so forth. Imagine if we had a bird's eye view of those, and imagine, Leos and T-90s replacing the Panthers and T-34 of those days. But I just can't imagine that happening today though. With air support and modern artillery, these battles would not really be tank battles but more of a combined arms fight. I like the M1 myself, but only because it has seen more combat over the last decade than the other tanks here. But these others could work just as well or even better. -
Customers are lied to on a regular basis, so I'm not surprised that Boeing has other problems. If the insides of how each company operates is actually shown, I bet no one would ever buy from a lot of these so called world class companies. As for the ship dates, I'm sure a lot of these airliners have some draconian penalties attached to late delivery and out of specs products. (i.e. still too heavy)
-
True enough, the fastener problem was known, but the problem is that Boeing stalled until the last minute practically to tell people of a two to three months delay. Had they put it in front of the world about a month ago, it becomes less of an issue. This is exactly the kind of image problem that got Airbus into trouble. They kept stalling until the last minute to break bad news. I agree that Boeing isn't where Airbus is half a year ago. But it's a slippery slope they're on. Even after the flight, the key question is whether they can make the ANA delivery dates. Yeah, I saw the sacrifice goat story too... it was hilarious.

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/boei...62B8EE9CD961%7D And so it begins.... how much will Boeing end up like Airbus. Well, they still have a couple of months, but if they have delays like Airbus, it will really hurt.

Nice pictures, must be a hell of an airplane to see up close. Would be fun to finally fly in one later.

Should've negotiated the prices up to 1 billion, make sure the critical gears (weapons and such) are not onboard. Then turn around, and buy 4 F-22 with that money.
-
well put... besides, has anyone looked at Leia lately? Sure, she was a glamour girl with the drug runner, but look at the level she stooped to get her fix. Dressed up like a sl*t for that criminal Hutt, and after that, well, let's just say she's let herself go. (and she didn't go to Hawaii, if you get my drift)
-
Wow... I'm tempted to pick the Empire just because of the relative intelligence of their supporters. Convincing arguments, the empire is good for the economy (see death star), doesn't force its religion on anyone (see jedi), and aren't working with criminals and poo bearing rugs (Solo and the Wookie). Nicely put.
-
Yep, at least until direct energy weapons become available.... another reason I really don't like the F-35.... too much sci-fi... Guns are definitely still needed, if nothing else, the day may come when an F-22 is called on a gun run, it's awfully sad that the F-35 carries so little ammo, for the number of rounds it's supposed to carry, why even bother. The plane is supposed to be ground attack... it's strange that a ground attack plane carries so little ammo, and basically doesn't even carry that much ground attack ordinance. Stealth I think is becoming highly overrated, after all, there are still good reasons to have B-52s around even though they're not stealthy. They fulfill a needed role when air defenses are suitably suppressed.
-
Ah, the cold war may be starting up again. Good.... they need to buy another 300 F-22 anyway, that might bring down the unit cost of the fighter. Although I wonder what the next stage of development is after the F-22; they better get started soon I think. And the F-35 doesn't really qualify... to me, that's just a bastardized F-22.

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2007/...to-october.html Here is the first sign that all is not well at Boeing. Let's see if they slip back further.
