  1. But I do think they are trying to hard to go with the civilians in space feel that is true of every Macross series, this one however is just too shoehorned in. In the other series, they were logical, two of those were colonists, and the third was a lack of choice. But his one seems just so contrived.
  2. Thanks, I thought that was you.. but may be all they need to survive is the song of Walkure and misc. stuff you can find in the pawn shop. As for coming near another colony, then the logical thing to do is to drop off the island cluster and its inhabitants there, becasue there is this war on you know. No need to bring along civilians for that. Parts of this story seem really contrived for that reason. Ok, I get Elysion has to be with the island. But why not just go back to some place where they can drop off the island (some place still controlled by NUNS), and then come back with real reinforcements and such. Unless the cluster is really that far away, but it just doesn't seem like it since a NUNS fleet with fold jammers already on site within two episodes. So you have to figure they just didn't have the fold jammers laying around somewhere for people to just pick up.
  3. ha, that's right, Bogue's only true self is about killing the Walkure... probably Freyja and Mikumo in particular. Although I still think either he is a secret fan boy, or he is adamantly opposed to Walkure because he is a fan of Firebombers, or may be even Sheryl and Ranka. The one part that kind of bothered me about this episode as someone pointed to earlier... what the hell, they were refugees two episodes ago, how long has it been since they are forced off of Ragna, and what have they been doing in between? Because the Barrett city looks more like Island One on Frontier than a dilapidated city where no one has paid much attention. Which begs the question, where the hell are they getting their supplies from if the whole cluster is under occupation. Don't get me wrong, I like the Triangle, but I'm not thrilled with the development of the main story, too many inconsistencies, way more than the other series I think. And by the way, what was the point of the NUNS guys, they have disappeared again after a few episodes, are they villains or what? Somehow, I feel like the pacing of the story isn't quite right, they slot in character development episodes in place where it just feels awkward, like, let's put the war on pause for this.
  4. Well, considering all Mirage has to do is to take off her jacket, and she's half way there, kind of, we can have sports bra and mecha action. Sports bra and mecha. Too bad she is the only one we can get to do that. in the interim...
  5. The thing about autonomy is interesting. In the first episode of Frontier, the Ghosts were on their own, and got their heads handed to them. It was not obvious that they were running by themselves, they could've been directly controlled by Frontier, so their level of autonomous function could have been reduced. (i.e. the Ghosts were run like Predators are run today) If you go back to Frontier in episode 7 when Luca's Ghosts were first introduced, you'll note that his drones were not interfered with at all, even though one would assume that the Vajra was doing the same thing as they were in episode 1. The one possible conclusion there was that the link between Luca's RVF-25 and his Ghosts were stronger, but Luca still had direct control. Cut to the last episode where Luca releases the Ghosts to fight against the Galaxy V-9s He is shown to specifically activate a certain system, perhaps allowing the drone access to a higher level of autonomy. Something the V-9s likely already have. Again, no intereference from the Vajra, and they were there at all three instances. Also note in episode 24, the Ghosts run by Luca became much more effective against the Vajra, this was before gaining their higher level of autonomy, but they didn't seem to be special compared to earlier version of the Ghosts. So one conclusion is that direct control by Luca or at least within close proximity, Vajra could not affect the direct communications of the Ghosts with the parent ship, and hence not affecting the combat performance. I would think that it is likely the Ghosts autonomy is not affected by the fold waves, but their communications might be. So, in episode 1, it became perfectly reasonable that the Ghosts there without a higher level of autonomy active lost links with the mothership due to jamming and were easily taken out. Of course, the only way we can know for sure is if the Kawamori told us directly.
  6. You know, it is kind of hard to tell how well the AI on the Ghosts worked. The ones from Galaxy were certainly quite a terror on the NUNS pilots, and were only matched by the Ghosts from Frontier after Luca released them. Would the so called "Juda system" sentient? Because there are huge performance difference there right? But then, there were the generic versions that were in the first episode of Frontier that just got smacked around, those seem to be more remote piloted drones than AIed Ghosts. Yep, that's another thing that hopefully someone will cover before the show ends.
  7. You know, it had to be Windermere that dropped the bomb, at least to me that would make sense. Wasn't one of the reason stated earlier on about the fold bomb creating a fault that restricted travel there. It makes no sense for NUNS to have done it. Because if they want to win the war, they have tons of resources that keep folding in. The only reason that NUNS stopped if Windermere did drop the bomb is because they couldn't get in more reinforcements. But then, one question that comes along is how is SV able to fold out, or for that matter the AKs. They would've had to travel a long way before their fold engines became effective. So, how did they do it. After all, NUNS couldn't fold in. Otherwise, Windermere would've been screwed. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?
  8. I just can't see that, combined arms still means a level of coordination, and we just don't see that in Delta. You can't argue that the Windermeres were anything but outnumbered from the beginning. The reasonable explanation for the mooks were that these guys were castoff in a backwater sector. In combined arms tactics, you still have to do your part. The tactics of a carrier centric NUNS fleet means the pilots have to be especially competent, because they are both the striking arm and just as important the defending arm of the heavy guns and the more vulnerable carriers. From that perspective, even if the individuals aren't all aces, a full squadron of them should be able to work together to fight off the ace with few if any losses. Because if they can't do that, then they would fare very poorly against any kind of truly organized fighter attacks.
  9. would be interesting to see the type of VFs currently serving in the sol system. I wonder if there are any fully AIed Ghosts around. I would bet that the sol system probably has a Macross or Battle class around beyond the standard Gitmos, Uragas, and Northamptons. It would be absolutely hilarious though if sol only had VF-11s still
  10. Although I can imagine after a while in that cockpit, the wind might become a little smelly. Oh, I just realized another silly reason why Roid is interested in Mikumo; her full name is Mikumo Guynemer.... which contracts to MiG. Roidis looking at another class of fighters to base things from, after all, there is a base for VF-1 (F-14), VF-171 (F-17), VF-22 (F-22), VF-19 (X-29), VF-24 series (the love child of a SU-27 and F-22), the Drakken (duh....). May be he is thinking Mikumo can help start up the MiG line. The one thing I really hope they don't do is to have Keith do a turn at the end of the series, they've kind of set up Keith for this in this episode, and you can see some of the Knights already grumbling, one can only hope that those AKs are killed before they have to flip flop. Give them a meaningful death I say.
  11. Have you seen Mikumo? I'd be interested in her too if I were Roid, The man may need decorative glasses, but he is not blind. What??? and have the Aerial knights need more than a one shot kill???? That is just blasphemy, it's hard enough as it is that the Aerial Knights can't point to something and shout bang, to have it blown up. Yeah, the NUNS pilots may vote for that, but the pop idols will all refuse. 1. It puts their lives in the hands of incompetent NUNS pilots. 2. They can't move around in that tiny cockpit for the VF-171, so no feeling the rythms. 3. The helmet will mess up their gorgeous hair.
  12. More likely it is a plot device. After all, no one cares if a Uraga dies, but a Macross or Battle class. That will make people howl. This is always a problem for making hero units. The death must be rare and climactic. And not many people care about Northamptons and Guantanamos. Now, what might make sense is that there are a few Macross and battle class ships as stand alones, but as each colony fleet settles, the corresponding Battle or Macross are released and become I would guess the defender of the system. As the system defense improves, the corresponding class is then released to join a local group of heavy ships. Sometimes they are called away never to be returned, sometimes they get killed, sometime a single ship out of several in a cluster of system is set up as a defender of the cluster (especially if the cluster is peaceful or a backwater) or even get turned over to private contractors. That might explain the Elysion situation. Especially if all the local planets got stronger and stronger fleets. I know I am just rationalizing here.
  13. I'm not so sure I'd agree with the force projection through colonial fleet concept... because that isn't the primary charter of the colony fleet. The NUNS principle charter is to essentially spread like cockroaches so that it is hard to eliminate all of humanity at once, Battle classes would be the key defenders of each said colony. But in a serious conflict, would have its hands tied defending the colonist and not be quite as free to operate with impunity. I.e. making a tactical withdraw when necessary. I would think that it still make sense to have certain very large assets in major developed worlds against the potential of a rogue Zentradi fleet or the Vajra show up. I would agree that it would be reasonable to not have a bunch of big guns free floating, but you would suspect that there would be major bases around which significant naval assets are based. You can imagine for example in the Earth system, there could be a couple of major orbital bases, where Battle class, or Macross class are routinely docked. They would periodically go on cruises just like USN carrier groups. They would potentially follow the deployment pattern of the USN, i.e. one or two battle class with support ships roaming around a certain region while other SDF classes attached to certain regional commands are usually docked and at a lower state of readiness. It would be an interesting to see more about it, sadly, we won't get that chance in the series. There is also the question of how fold travel actually works, and the topography of the galaxy given the existence of fold faults.
  14. I would be interested in how a standard NUNS battle fleet would be organized. The general doctrine appears to center around distant strikes using carriers as the long arm, and Northamptons and stealth cruisers more as defensive units. Have we ever seen a formal NUNS battle fleet or battle group? One where the ships would be used in more direct combat. The closest one I can think of is the Galaxy rescue by the Quarter, there, the Quarter launched with Uragas, Northamptons, and Guantanamos in support. The fleet that was sent to Windermere is perhaps another example, but that was not different from a standard planetary defense fleet. It seems like outside of a Macross type centered group, the NUNS fleet isn't centralized about any particular type of command ship, perhaps a Uraga or a Stealth cruiser type ship. In a lot of ways, this seems strange since there are still rogue Zentradi fleets. In such a case, a standard defensive fleet would hardly seem adequate compared to the Zentradi ships that are more close combat types. I would have envisioned a battle fleet being centered around a standard Macross class (SDF type) with secondary carriers, stealth frigates and cruisers in support, and may be a couple of Quarter type ships in advance combat role. That would give a rogue Zentradi fleet a run for its money. The Northampton heavy fleet with Uragas just doesn't seem as plausible.
  15. Regarding the new opening, it seems to be generic, and didn't do a lot of foreshadowing at first glance compared to Mac F. But I suppose it is a bit too early to tell.
  16. Of course, they must gather the ingredients for their yummy yummy uminekoman, the people of Ragna simply cannot live without it. The danger of course is that they don't know how long they are stuck in outer space, so they are already starting a breeding program to ensure a steady supply of ingredients.
