Thoughts on Flashback 2012
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to VF-15 Banshee's topic in Movies and TV Series
There really doesn't need to be more continuation of the story of the three main characters. The ending of SDFM is the ending. -Misa found love. Just like the zentradi soldiers. She isn't such a bitch anymore like when Hikaru first met her. Her journey has ended. -Minmay has matured from a whiny girl with ambition into a star who also knows the importance of duty so she can see why hkaru fights. At first hikaru was just a normal guy wanting to chase pussy like his older bro Roy so he would not be "left behind", and now he has all the responsibility put in his shoulders after Roy's death and doesn't have a guide anymore. His original motiviation was to impress his GF so she wouldn't think he was a coward who contributes nothing, but then it changed and now he is doing it to protect others not just impress his GF. -Hikaru used to be a guy who didn't respect soldiers to a guy who is now a dog of the military killing the "end of game boss" which is a giant brain in a jar that is the leader of the evil zentradi. The "Messiah: in the minmay song. The hero (the space knight in shining armour) did not just rescue the princess and live happily ever after with her though despite saving her with his valkyrie in GERWALK mode.. The princess had more imnportant duties to serve: her fanbase. While the hero fell in love with the woman he hates from the beginning of the show which I suppose was "the twist" you were not suposed to expect. That's it. you don't really need flashback to tell us what happened afterwards imo. It's just a bonus for those who want to see images of happy people celebrating victory and moving out into space. Global mentions at the end of the tv series that the only way to ensure the survival of the human race and secure the future is to spread ourselves to other planets in case another laser attack happens again that makes the humans extinct like the protoculture of the zentradi legends. There are still rogues out there so it might be safer to spread out. Same message at the end of DYRL "...but there are still rogue zentradi stil out there.." right after beating the alien leader. The zentradi have been wiping out planets like that for ages. Humans are just one on a list of species that could have gone extinct. To me the story finished right there when global give misa more responsibility (making her have a new ship to keep humans alive in other places) and human spread their seed around. That doesn't mean we have to see it literally happen. But the message is humans should not go down the same path as the PC who obviously lost their great civilisation thanks to the very things they created which destroyed them. (ie much like the story of atlantis where the atlantenas were punished by god) The alien ship which crashed to earth might have been a gift that gave the world the abilty to stop fighting its own global wars, but it also was a ill omen that now they would have to die to aliens. So in many ways regardless of the ship humans were already being in danger of destroying themselves like the zentradi,. Zentradi are not unique in their warlike natures. When misa tries to explain to her dad that the zentradi are way too powerful he doesn't believe her. (possibly because he suspects the aliens might have brainwashed them while they were captured.) But it's this need to dominate the other race that created the "global punishment from god" of having those lasers being shot down to earth and almost wiping humans out completely. I guess the TV series wraps everything up nicely. -You killed the big bad boss who has mind control over the aliens.. -three main characters have ended their journey and they have changed from the start of the story -earth is rebuilt while humans spread their culture to other parts in the universe to avoid the fate of the PC who no longer live. Humans have grown from the terrible experience and paid the price of the first space war: The blood of all the innocent who died fighting aliens or just living on earth (poor little destroids lol) who were not lucky enough to be on the sdf1 during the conflict. The "punishment from god" taught them a lesson so now they will act/behave different from before; when they were in global conflict amongst themselves; pre-crashed alien spaceship hoping to conquer the other side instead of tolerating the differences and just living in peaceful co-existence. I suppose for story reasons you could put the blame entirely on the evil "anti-un" who are supposed to be the bad guys but they could just as well be seen as good guys fighting the draconian control of a corrupt global government. Would be interesting to see the war from their point of view much like gundam tries to do with zeon so it doesn't feel too biased. Maybe paint the UNG as like the "Titans" in gundam. Having said all the above, it's not that I would not like to know what happened to Misa Minmay and Hikaru. I just think taken alone SDFM was all we needed. It's like trying to make a story about what happened to the old man in the Monster MK II. Who cares. lol Maybe he got sick of fighting and used the rest of is life to doing non-violent tasks working with construction robots and alien giants to help rebuild buildings after the space war. Details about that doesn't seem all that important. You can imagine at the end of SDFM Misa and Hikaru getting married having kids without needing to see it happen onscreen. -
macross II haviing the sdf1 being destroyed wasn't a big deal for me. It's not an invincible ship and the UN Spacy not being invincible was the entire theme of that sequel. Technology alone is not what gav humans the freedom. It was the awakening of the zentradi ancient memories causing them to remember who they are really that made the difference, since the soldiers are just mind controlled. I guess you could say the song gave them something else to live for. This was the "legend of the alus". The legendary ship was not special because of weapons but the culture it would bring to the barbarians which only saw war as the sole reason for living due to mind control by thier masters much like the clone soldiers in star wars who were created for one purpose alone and used and exploited as tools.. Yes I know macross is just a mech show to people but like gundam its an anti-war story too. Having a ship be blown up only makes that part special because it tells you that your fave thing is vulnerable again which is what the drunken guy at the beginning of the story was trying to teach the young reporter; that the military is not invincible and it is not safe to assume you can rely only on one little trick for every encounter. (ie pilots might get the idea that training hard is not necesary now that they have enjoyed peace for so long) The key to understanding the legend is not knowing the ship and finding it to use as a weapon to defeat the enemy, (its power is not the weapons) but instead using the memory of the past to remind the soldiers that there is no need to destroy everything if you can just find meaning beyond "fighting things for fun". The aliiens are only warlike because that is what they are taught, but that is artificially programmed into them so they forget they can be more than soldiers and actually be other things too. (not that soldiers are not needed for defence of course, just that it is not the sole reason for your existence) Macross 7 goes way too far into the other extreme where weapons like missiles, and bombs and traditional weapons are pretty much useless so you feel as if the war is no longer physical at all and as a result that means much more boring combat and lack of exciting dogfighting. People want to see some "gritty action" not just be preached to about the futility of war that inevitably escalates into planetary destruction and extinction of humans.

Good to see an official transformation vid. Looks good how they did not make this toy glossy like the old bandai chunky monkey toy. -
The curious case of the VF-22S's guns
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to VF5SS's topic in Movies and TV Series
I think max and milia using the vf-22 is mostly to stick to the whole QRau theme for milia and max from dyrl. Maybe milia is a stylish and agressive battroid mode fan and loves to ram the fist into an enemies cockpit with a pin point barrier punch, and finish the pilot off with a point blank shot to the face of the poor sucker inside the victim mech? You guys ever consider the importance of doing flashy, up-close finishing moves or are you just interested in stats only? Max did this in dyrl with his special modded gunpod which could shoot forwards while still attached to the forearm of his vf-1 in bot mode in dyrl, ...and milia did it to britai's soldiers who she could easily defeat without bothering to rely on the dreaded micromissile spam move. The Qrau/vf-22 is a LOT better for pinpoint barrier punching people in the face and blasting them in the gut than the vf-19. Maybe when you are on special missions you need to go "metal gear" style and not use up so much ammo so these up-close attacks and silent take-downs are needed more? Does anyone remember that part in sdfm when milia first delivers those three zentradi spies on board the sdf-1 and she has to go in all stealthy without being allowed to waste time fighting? Thats the kind of thing I think the vf-22 would be better for because the weapons are more neatly hidden within the body/frame. VF-22 is probably more advanced imo. Having to change clips like the yf-19 is stupid and slower than swapping weapons. It's all about quick reaction speed and battle readiness not just how fast you can go in a straight line in fighter mode. Maybe the mission is very time critical? You don't want to alert the people that you just delivered spies (by being slow to get out of there) or the whole stealth mission fails. -

DRM is the reason I think he should track down a copy of Capcom Classics collection. If you can't get that go illegal and get a rom with the final burn emulator. Won't bother to link that here. He's a smart boy. -

Here is one other title you might like: It is known as Burning Fight on the Neo Geo (appeared in the 90s as a arcade console for the home to compete against the super nintendo and the sega megadrive) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJgaJFsvAWs not as good as FF but a decent attempt by SNK to clone the success of capcom's walk-along-beat-em-up. Other games I would recommend if you like Final Fight is Double Dragon Advance on the GBA: I enjoy this more than FF because fighting is more deep and choosing the right combination of moves for the right situation is more crucual to survival than in FF where it is just button mashing, throwing people into other people and spamming spin kicks. Double Dragon Advance is like a combination of DD 1 with Double Dragon 2 enemies included and withsome new stuff included (like the Agent Smith guys who can block and attack with insane speed). It's like a remix of Double Dragon. I play this almost everyday for years in my DS Lite. Best Double Dragon game ever imo. Just too bad the GBA has bad music chip. If you ever get sick of final fight check that out by getting the cart or playing it on a good GBA emulator. (using a console game style controller) -

If you ever want an arcade perfect port (not like the GBA one lol) and not downloading the game illegally or needing to buy it from a XBLA pr PSN online service, there is a game on psp called capcom classics collection with final fight included as one of the retro arcade classic games. This is perfect if you like to play old arcade games on a portable (the legit way without relying on modifying your game devices) I am also generally a fan of most of the capcom action titles like megaman, ghouls n ghost, most of their one-on-one fighting games too. So I keep up to date on all their later titles. One thing I wish for: strider 2 port. I remember having this game on ps1 but it suffered from slowdown compared to the arcade game. I think with today's console they can re-release this game again and not have it slow down at the last boss section. Strider is one of my fave capcom characters. I always choose to use him in marvel vs capcom fighting games. Was so disapointed that they had taken him out in the third MVC sequel but all is good now that they have added him back in. Another series you might like which is similar to final fight is Streets Of Rage (AKA Bare Knuckle to the japanese) which started on the megadrive during the days of the 16 bit game consoles. It's using the template of the final fight games but has a bit more of a deep co-op experience where you can use your partner together to do certain moves you couldn't do normally by yourself which is great fun if you play walk-along beat-em-ups with a friend a lot. (personally I don't since they always hog the chicken and scroll the screen too far which fills up the screen with too many enemies) Final Fight One on GBA: (released early on in the GBAs life) This is quite a decent port of the game but not as good (MUCH better than the SNES version though) as I'd like personally. Still worth checking out if you like FF and want to see everything for research purposes. Damage on all punches has been modified in GBA FF so that you wouldn't spend ages on those Andores using Guy. In the arcade you had to really exploit the throw damage and knee kick damage in order to finish off Andore enemies quickly, but the GBA version made it so that his punches are a bit more damaging but his health was worse. Final Fight on Capcom classics collection (XBOX 1 version shown) slap an old xbox in a arcade cabinet and load this game up for the time when the real one dies. That way you can pretend you still have a working arcade version. lol Seriously though: hunt down capcom classic collection (the one with Final Fight on it) if you really like Final Fight. This is as good as owning the original arcade version and is not a "port" of the game like the GBA or Sega CD version of FF. It IS the arcade game itself so all the enemies and things should react just as they did in the arcade. If you can't find them after your arcade cabinet dies, you will probably be left having to download the new version that appears on PSN and XBLA. do a youtube search for "final fight double impact" for reviews of this. not a fan of the changed music in that though -

I don't own arcade cabinets but I am huge final fight fan. I think games like Street Fighter III were arcade games that burnt out (I think this had to do with being a disc read by laser which eventually wore out) but my guess with final fight is that you are right and it is just like a cartridge being in a game console. It probably won't die from overheating or anything like SFIII. I know that when Street Fighter III was in the arcades I would always see an out of order sign, but rarely would I ever see a final fight arcade cab like that. I actually still play the old GBA port on my DS once in a while. "Final Fight ONE" This is pretty decent port for its time but the enemies lack their neutral stance and always have their guard up which is not faithful to the arcade game. But it is a harder game too since enemies are more responsive. In this version you can play as Stree Fighter Alpha 3 Cody and Street Fighter Alpha Guy as unlockables. Pretty funny seeing these sprites in final fight. If your cab does die, have you ever tried entering the world of the emulator?: despite the title it is not full speed but you get the idea -

Ah yes I am familiar with that. But this is even worse than just being buggy. This is unplayable framerate after a long period of time playing the game. PS3 version is more severe but the 360 and pc are not as severe with frame per second stuttering. The patch helps a bit, but the problem is still there. Those who played fallout new vegas on ps3 (the last bethesda/obsidian open world titles using the engine) also had this problem so it might be hardware-related (ie the game was really coded mostyl for the pc and 360 platforms but doesn't go well on ps3) more on that here: http://www.eurogamer...n-skyrim-issues and http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-vs-ps3-skyrim-lag Reviewers of skyrim were never given any access to ps3 versions and had to buy retail copy to be able to do reviews. Oh I wonder why? lol -
I think it should be a LE Toy. Like the Low Vis 1/48. Most people don't have time or skill to build kits and they will be angry.

Yes please be a toy. And if you are going to make it expensive please give us a stand with 30th anniversary engraving on the base of the stand or something to make this toy feel more special as a limited edition thing. I wonder how rare this will be and how many will be made?

In defence of gundam: it is a robot that transforms into alternate mode and gundam is all about space people vs earth people copying each others ideas and relying on psychic abilities to dodge beams and stuff.. In that show they have special robots for ground fighting, space fighting and air fighting and even under water.. It's not really fare to attack this for chunky appearance since in space things like this do not matter as much. They rely on armour and shields and cover, not just dodging things by doing crazy tricks in the air that would kill the pilot. It's not better or worse, people jut prefer different universe and argue about whose is cooler that's all. Please lets not make this into some gundam vs macross debate about which is more 'realistic' since they are both animated sci fi shows hehe I'm a fan of both and think you can still have something that looks good in both alternate mode (whether it be a fighter or the robot) and the primary mode. (whether it be the robot or fighter) I don't really like the chunky look of old valkyry toys. I just think certain parts look wrong. (tiny gunpod for yf-19, tiny feet for yf-21 etc) It's more the overall appearance in that mode, not that I love chunky fat hulking robots that become fat planes or anything like that. I did not like the 1;48 GBP armour as it did not resemble what we saw in the show as good as the v2 1/60 vf-1 GBP. I just think it is time for a new yf-19 based on the popularity of this mecha and to update it. -

Although it is true that the valk is a fighter with a bot mode not the other way around, I feel the yf-19 still needs to be redone. yf-19 with a locking chest, bigger gunpod, and lack of gullet and good posability in bot mode would be great. I bet you'd be the first in line to buy it again. I love the vf-19 and am happy with that in bot mode and when I look at the tiny gunpod of the yf-19 I laugh. Posing the two together side by side in bot mode is not good. Update would be nice. -

skyrim is what has occupied all my time. This game is beautiful but anyone here who bought the ps3 version you might like to consider the game will start to stutter a lot and drop frames about 50-60 hours in to the game which has made a lot of fans of the es games who bought the ps3 version angry and disappointed. PC and xbox360 versions are not nearly as bad as the ps3 version. Search the internet to know what this is about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81Cz9zefTW4 Not a good game to get if you only have ps3. Worse than buying a yamato macross toy with exploding shoulder. lol I have the 360 and pc one Not so great combat mechanics (dark souls is far better) but a great sequel with a bit more polish than oblivion (animation, graphics, dialogue). Still uses the same engine as before but modified and renamed. As usual the real reason you would buy this is for the sheer scope of the game. Although the various systems have been oversimplified for my liking. No attributes for instance. -

my bet is yamato has the license to do vf-25. Everyone who just bought v2 vf-25 from bandai will be pissed because they have to fork out money a third time. man that'd be funny. lol wouldn't mind v3 yf-19 though. Come on of all the popular mechs that need redoing this is the one. Tiny gunpod. lack of locking chest. gullet. this is the most popular mech in mac plus and has recognition in both western macross fanbase and in japan. Lots of money to be made doing this again imo Then maybe they can redo yf-21 but give it more beefy calves like in the battroid mode lineart. I love fighter mode of this toy but its got tiny feet and skinny legs in bot mode. The theme of the recent yamato toys seems to be to make more chunky looking robot modes and let them be more posable. -

yes can't wait till a v3 yf-19 comes out. . I knew the YF-19 v2 gunpod was tiny. As much as I prefer the YF-19 over the VF-19 in design, the VF-19 toy rips the v2 YF-19 a new a-hole. lol -

i love the himetal. One thing to note however is that the arms are double jointed now on the strike roy vf-1. In the link you mention the VF-1J is only single joint at the arms. I didn't know that since I am more a fan of roy than hikaru who obviosly isn't as great as roy or max as a pilot and survives mainly due to plot armour. lol *ducks attacks from butthurt hikaru fans* VF-1S is a much better-looking robot thanks to the extra head laser firepower offering better chance of success to shoot down missiles. Everyone should buy a strike roy imo to show love/appreciation to this line of toys. It's what I wished those cheap banpresto toys were from the past. One thing I don't like about the 1/60 yamato is how chunky the gunpod looks. The himetal version of that looks a lot sleeker despite the yamato toy still being overall the better product and being more close to getting a perfect transform with regards to landing gears, gunpod (himetal is a swappable piece) and heatshield. -
missed it again lol

Looking forward to seeing reviews of this first before taking the plunge. It IS expensive. But yamato are the only ones doing it at this scale so we have no choice. Maybe in future they'll do some v2 and somehow get the perfect vf-17 with perfect gunpod gimmick. Just be happy it is not another vf-1. I wonder if bandai is considering doing 1/60 vf-171? -

I think if you just buy one of each type you should be able to get the toys but you definitely have to plan your saving up for them in advance as the prices are getting higher. Yamato have improved though so the value that you get from them should be better. (no breaking arms/shoulder complaints on these more expensive newer toys as of yet lol) I think the fact that they all lock into place in all modes,(my beef with the yf-19, which feels wrong to handle when things flop all over the place) have more clicky joints (one of my suggestions to brings these things closer to being toys than display pieces), and seem to have better plastic now, as well as better proportions in robot mode without destroying fighter mode.... all makes buying these thing still worth the money in the end. On top of that they are posable unlike the stuff of the past. I think robot mode fans should be happy since the joy of leaving them in this mode is to try to recreate the dynamic poses from the shows. I hope yamato does v2 vf-11c (give us more posable arms) with Full armour! Please..... its one of the best looking mechs in macross 7 imo. Just make sure it has one really good joint in the arm to hold that massive gunpod up without drooping. lol -

Yes and considering that its not as popular as the other shows, going smaller scale might mean more people can afford them and likely to buy them while they are saving for the other mechas in more popular shows. It's just things like landing gear and stuff that will not be PT which I am ok with. (but as mentioned the vf-0 is larger than vf-1 so maybe yamato can pull off PT gear after all) The only thing is yamato would compete with itself for sales (the 1/100 vf-0 vs 1/60 vf-0) but loads of people probably want to save space anyway. The SV-5`1 for instance was huge. Maybe they have gotten skilled enough now to make a downsized version in the same way they did vf-1 1/60 ver2 after the 1/48 vf-1 which was once thought of as the king of vf-1 toys? 1/100 is a decent enough size for enemies like the zentradi power armour or things like the glaug which really are too simplistic to demand really huge versions of in toy form in this day and age. I personally would like to see a 1/100 Qrau with superposability like the revoltechs. -

haha, If bandai were not so stupid as to not let the gunpod be attachable in fighter mode right out of the box, then I would have bought the vf-19 himetal already. I suppose yamato needs the money more desperately than bandai though since bandai already have the gundam crowd to milk as well as the mac f license. Personally? I would like to see mac zero toys the scale of himetal at 1/100. And bandai to continue himetal yf-19. But give us the attachments for gunpod in fighter mode for crying out loud. VF-1 himetal is great though. Maybe they just rushed it out?
