It looks ok, not as cool as the yf-19 which I'm sure won't be limited when yamato eventually will do version 2 of. I think VF-4 is a little overrated to be honest. Fugly head. Fugly feet. Top-heavy robot mode design. Doesn't look at all threatening as the VF-17 (which has giant gunpod as well as arm guns and a stealthy shape). Part of the hype is how long it took for a toy to be made of it really. Yes fighter mode looks good, but no head laser to shoot missiles down? No gunpod to shoot with? No shield for the forearm to help absorb damage? The swing wing design of the vf-1 is probably still better in the air too for times when it has to dogfight outside of space. (obviously this is biased towards space fighting by the look of it) Variable Glaug is way more interesting to me. It's a glaug that can transform. How is that not awesome?

If it got a reissue with a 1J head I think it would be awesome. Those who already bought the 1A would now have an excuse to buy multiple.
-
I know. Still.... hopefully it gets a reissue like the VF-1D did (which I missed BTW HLJ told me my order was too late grrrrr...) at some later point with the option parts if I do miss it, and for those who were too busy saving for other valks. I still need to get VF-1D and Cavaliers. Than I can at least pretend I am done with buying new VF-1 repaints. lol If they DO reissue, maybe they will put the un spacy kite symbol on the other wing? (in order to justify releasing it again for those who do not want a tv-accurate "canon" version?) Some people expressed interest in Fast packs and urban camo GBP to go with it. maybe yamato can milk the fans for more money if they make specially made super valk release of this? (like max and miriya supers with painted FP in red and blue) Low vis was also unpopular when it came out and then people cared about it later on. People are strange. I've always thought the DYRL "white with colored trimming" was so boring, so all these variants I see as more cool than the plain white stuff. The only time I care is when a valk is in a greyish scheme like low visibility, or a bright red or blue like the max and miriya releases. (To me even the brownie CF is more appealing than the DYRL scheme) I think yamato should seriously consider doing the urban camo GBP for this one, and FP.

1/55 chunky monkey for sure. You can mod these to make them more posable. Just look in this forum for old posts by people that did mods. I saw guys making the arms and legs more posable and they turned out pretty good. This was a long time ago. I can't be bothered digging up ancient stuff. There is way too many topics. Good luck. Even though they are bricks they still match some of the badly drawn frames from the original tv series done by artists who drew everything out of proportion to the lineart. lol so technically they are still "accurate to the show" in the same way the Toynami "Jack Archer" masterpiece VF-1 is accurate *wink*

If this toy was a non-transforming toy and only had fighter mode but was 1/3rd the price do you think people might buy it stil? Loads of people are just going to leave it in fighter mode. lol They could save sooo much money. Sounds crazy but I have had my konig monster in only 1 mode for ages, (GERWALK of course) never bothering to transform it. I agree with those that battroid head looks fugly on vf-4. Kawamori should modernise the design like he did when he made the VF-0 I reckon. (the phoenix is really just an updated version of the vf-1 with more curves) The feet look like crap. No detail. This is one design that needs redesign imo for battroid mode.

I wish I had never come into the thread. Now that swoosh has put up his pics I have to buy one of these. I didn't even know they had a name and just thought originally they were just ordinary valks that were put into a dark shadow which make them look black. an old post discussing this lol: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=19776&st=0&p=421111entry421111 Now that I know it is part of the canon it makes me want this even more. If yamato were smart they would do another one but with the 1J head which I think is the more popular variant. Does anyone remember the super limited 1/48 "credit card valk"? http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=14581&view=findpost&p=287640 it reminds me of that.

What I think they should do: if you pay up front, you get a free stand with the 30th anniversary logo engraving on the base to show you bought yours in 2012 which is the year the love triangle in SDFM tv series finally ended. (see the photo album close in the end credits on the year 2012 for the last episode) Most won't be able to, but for those who saved up for this for ages, it would be a good reward. I think VF-4 deserves it's own unique base. Make it out of clear plastic where it attaches to the fighter but have the actual base be black as if it was the shadow for the plane taking off from the ground.

They take a while to send stuff out.

Let's just hope there are no QC issues on these things and that the factory workers are elite trained. Expensive I can handle. But it should at least = high grade feeling and good build quality to last a long time. To me, this thing should be $300-$350 (shipping incl) personally. And that is with stand. We aren't getting any extras, it doesn't look to have any cool gimmicks and is only about the size of a VF-1. I think if they made it cheaper people would buy multiples and then they might even make more money if they lowered it to around the $300-$350 mark. It's rarely seen in shows, true, but it is popular for people who are familiar with it. People talk about how expensive the vf-11 was but at least you got the fast packs lol. I think yamato should chuck in the stand. They did it with the sv-51.And shipping should be cheap since this is a smaller toy.Don't tell me Yamato is back to using those big boxes again? argh..

The price is very high. Yamato wants you to become a gigolo to earn enough to pay for these things. I think the least they can do is offer a free stand like bandai. Times have changed yamato. Bandai is kicking your arse in terms of value now that they can offer just-as-good toys. If only they made them more available though..

HLJ has so far worked fine for me. Graham hates them for some reason but all my yamato stuff I got from them. (what you got to do is send emails to them telling them you wish to ship the item out immediately if you want prompt service because they have a system where they prefer to wait for you to buy extra things and combine the shipping to save you money. If you don't want that, you have to explicitly state that you don't want to wait, and for them to please send the item alone as soon as they can. They assume everyone will add an extra item to the shopping trolley so they don't send out the item until certain that you only want 1 thing) I hope yamato are able to use HLJ as a supplier of future online exclusive macross goodies for us outside japan. I would prefer to buy Vf-4 from them just because of the convenience and extra protection people here have talked about. One thing I don't like is how Bandai gets a whole online video show on HLJ (teaching you how to assemble gundam kits) while macross doesn't get crap. I think yamato should get them to promote valkyries on it all the time to act as free advertisements. lol

I am going to get this and hopefully a Variable Glaug (if they decide to make it as a surprise release one day much like the konig monster) If the quality is there then I am happy. I can take a high price if the toy isn't going to self destruct. I don't really collect any other line of toy accept macross. (maybe a few transformers here and there) It all comes down to how badly people want something. $300-350+ might be a lot of money, but I spent about that much for a nintendo 3DS when it launched. I bought a PS Vita too. Remember that unlike the VF-1 yamato will not be able to milk this release with half a dozen different repaints. So I can see why all the wallet rape for the rarer mecha. I think when masterpiece prime version 2 released he was something like $300 and he is a popular well known character. This thing is not as well known. What if it ends up like VF-11 (which I heard did not sell that well just because the mecha was a cannon fodder so isn't as popular as the hero mechs) I only wish they would do Mospeada toys too. Bandai has the mac F license and it does not look like we will see anything from yamato for a long time. (if ever) When I first came to these boards people were always so depressed about how little macross toys there are and people would take pride in hunting down the rarer stuff from the past. Nowadays they can have new stuff that is better than before but complain they can't afford it. I think as long as the toys are still available to buy when you do finally get enough money saved up to get one, then that is fine by me. My only complaint is when they get so hard to find that you end up paying the scalpers the money. (this is the case with bandai toys) I would much rather yamato get my money (and use the funds to do more risky mech designs) and rape my pockets than the ebay scalper. Bandai may have improved their toy quality but in exchange they have also made it a pain to get access to anything.

I can see the majority of people displaying this in fighter mode. Looks really nice. I bet people will mod it so it can hold the gu-11 gunpod. I wonder if the hands are detachable?

I think in future macross shows they could probably have drones that carry the weapons for the valkyrie and deliver them. The ghost could hold it with magnets and the valk would just catch it in its hands like when Roy Fokker did it in macross zero. lol Anyone heard of an old shoot em up on the playstation 1 called einhander? In that you controlled a little spaceship that had a little arm mechanism on its bottom side that could use all the enemy crafts own weapons against them. It's basically an arm to catch the weapons so you can fire it. Maybe that is the future of macross drone? It hold the weapons, follows along, and then if needed it passes the weapons on to the pilot after he needs a change of weapon? A good example might be that guy who has the sniper rifle. He could equip the normal gun pod, the drone would follow him in stealth mode, and then when he needs the sniper gun the drone exchanges the normal one for the sniper weapons?

I thought it actually could have one if needed, much like how the yf-19 can have wing missiles or underarm launchers in robot mode but they just don't get used for us to see it often? Is it official that a vf-4 never has a gunpod because it can not be used for some reason? Or is it that it just doesn't need one?

Macross Zero Valks - any chance for 30th re-releases?
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to lechuck's topic in Toys
Maybe we should all look for signs of him selling his old macross zero valks on ebay to prepare for announcement of newer version 2 releases? It might be a good hint of him knowing something. lol Hopefully if they do try version 2, they design the Roy VF-0S to handle the reactive armor. Remember the vf-0 is a bigger toy than vf-1 at 1/60. It's going to need tight joints and stuff to hold heavier parts. No floppy limbs please. It's time they built them to last like chunky munky toys for the money they are asking for these days. -
If yamato won't do it, please do the Variable Glaug at least. I know it's not seen much but just like the koenig monster it is an interesting looking mech to me.
-
Bandai should just tell us what they plan to release and then release it on the dates they tell people. It would help sell armor and super packs because then people who are considering buying the packs will be more likely to buy them if they know they can get an ozma later when it gets reissued. So easy. Maybe macross toy sales are slowly eating into the sale of their more-loved gundam toys/models so they are deliberately limiting things. lol Then they can say: "see? there is not much money to be made from macross, no cannon fodder plane releases for you macross fans. Everyone wants more gundams. Must sell gundam. Must never tell the public that macross toys even exist."
-
I read through the entire thread and I must have missed it: Has it been confirmed if there will be a gunpod with this? It might actually help balance the robot mode if they have one in its hand. And will the feet be diecast to keep it upright? Much like the YF-21 with its tiny feet and the QRau with the huge backpack, this looks like it would easily blow off the shelf on a windy day.

So how limited will this be Graham? They will only make like 100 and get us to fight each other like the people fighting for the last droplets of fuel in Mad Max? When all this is done I hope they do the variable Glaug. I like all modes of that. What is everyone's prediction of the price for this?

When yamato announce it I would be very happy. I was always annoyed by the tiny gunpod of the existing yf-19 and after seeing the vf-19, I think it blows the yf-19 out of the water. I have no buyers remorse for being an owner of yf-19 by any means. Just thought that it could have been much better (gullet, lack of locking chest, and small gunpod being the main criticisms I have)

Yamato should do version 2 1/48 one day. All the gimmicks of the old 1/48 kept intact, include improvements from 1/60 ver2 line (better articulation, feet thrusters that don't look fake etc) , and designed it for 2 seater variants and GBP armour this time. (1/48 never got 2 seater variants) You'll say: "No way I have just completed my 1/60 vf-1 collection. I will never buy more VF1 toy ever again." Yamato will laugh and release a whole new 1/48 range of vf-1 toys and you do the opposite of what you said. Because the new ones are better than the old one. (1/60 ver2 has a long neck, old 1/48 had GBP big boobs, old 1/48 has tiny hands, 1/60 ver2 has no gunstrap, etc etc)

Hopefully bandai overproduce a little of the reissue just enough for the random latecomer. It is unreasonable to think people who watched MacF would not recognise the main characters. I think overproducing some of the popular characters would actually be safer to bandai than only making tiny amounts imo. Also some people might buy 2 just to display a naked valk along with the armored one because they are lazy to take the armor on and off. I love ozuma enough to want two. One for naked display with the skull logo. And one with armor. Maybe a third with super but he is more commonly seen with armor pack. As for Alto, for some reason I do not like the head type of his VF-25. Just looks like a hamburger. lol I love the VF-171EX though. Already preordered the armour/extra weapons pack.
-
One thing I have noticed though is how some say they would buy something but then they will say "I don't have the money to afford it unless I wait for it to go on sale". I want another ozuma vf-25s (grey planes are the best) but not at ebay prices. The more people that say they hate it the less chance this would get made at all. If you hate it, tell the companies that you would not buy it. If you like it, tell them you'd buy it but indicate what kind of price you'd pay. Personally I think a 1/100 PT like the bandai vf-1 and vf-19 should be attempted first. Then if people buy it, maybe they can do a 1/60 later? (release in that order so people who bought a smaller version would be tempted to upgrade to the big one - ie double dip) You got to remmeber that what sells is based on whatever else is out. So if say there is a 1/60 VF-19 coming out and bandai release the 1/100 vf-19 they might not get as many sales as they did from people who are into a bigger scale) This is what happened, and now people claim the HMetal Line isn't worth continuing. Nonsense. It was because they had an alternative, and it only gave the impression that HiMetal sucks due to people preferring the bigger scale yamato toy which is in scale to many other toys they own at 1/60. Which is why I think if yamato were to make the mospeada stuff now, it would be ok since no other toy companiy is currently touching it. (last time you had several scales of the same thing for ridearmor toys and by the time the beagle ride armor came out, nobody had any money left) They have milked the vf-1. they are doing vf-4, now the future is Mspeada legious and tread (unpopular to the masses but loved by fans of the show) and the ridearmor (skipped by many because they bought up megahouse and CMs) that were done by beagle which is the best toy of that bike ever done.
