Oh if you want one that kinda blends with both tv series (robotech) and movie(DYRL), get the Roy VF1S plus a fast pack strike parts set. You'll get DYRL pilot in DYRL space suit, a 1S head turret with wrap around visor, and white skull on black background on the heatshield which is distinct. Now people who accuse you as a robotech sympathiser they also have to admit you love DYRL. The plane looks similar in both movie and series so you get people who like either one recognising the valk. Having the strike parts will make robotech fans jealous, while keeping the look of the tv series roy will also make the robotech people happy. At the same time as the plane looking as it should from DYRL. Best of both worlds. Maybe yamato should make a tv series 1/48 vf1s with Roy's flight suit with super pack and bubble hands like they did with max and milia? I would buy it if it looked distinct. (say a more greyish tone to the dyrl roy) I want to see two pilots: 1 for hikaru after roy dies and he becomes skull leader, and one for roy before the use of fast packs and super valkyries. You would have a valk from the series that was started right from the beginning of the series when roy first appears, to one that got upgraded to the end of the series with the fast pack. Having both tv flightsuit pilots would make it easier for fans if they preffered a 1s hikaru or 1s roy in either: vf1s at beginning of the series, or the vf1s at the end.(but still be the same plane) I like the dark grey with black colors of the tv series flight suit.

I would get either the max or the milia super vf1j. The max bright blue and low vis were my first valks. The super max is great if you want a super valk instead of a naked valk. Not just that but the good TV "clown hands" are also included. What will happen though is, you will see the beauty of other valks and want them too. I'm tempted to get a milia to match with max. Their paint is striking and distinct just like in the show, and it's this striking color that makes them stand out in a crowd of boring CF who have to meld with the rest of the crap pilots because they get blown away too easily and having them stand out can only make it worse. I think somebody should make a robotech custom yamato 1/48 with Jack Archer head. I wonder if this would sell for lots on ebay if robotech fans were told it was a limited edition with only 1 made?

Maybe Yamato decides to lose interest in macross like the doomsday prophets predict and we never see any reissue of 1/48 ever again for a long time, then maybe. So long as people keep buying, (how much money are they willing to sink into existing releases and any potential new releases?) the prices will probably stay about the sameI reckon. Is it a case of a dedicated fanbase all buying the same stuff, often buying multiples or trying to get everything (or even buying everything and then getting multiples of everything) or are new customers coming in and wanting 1/48 and increasing the demand for them as time goes on and word of mouth spreads? If there is no new customers anymore and as time goes on yamato does not release or reissue anything due to lack of incentive (everyone who has the money and finally got all that they wanted no longer buys up) then the price will go up based on if any new customers (late-comers) discover the yamato VF1 and find they can no longer buy them. It all depends on yamato: if tommorow macross is a dead name, forgotten series, and the fanbase decides to start spending money on other things, prices will go up gradually. But I'm optimistic that what will happen is we'll see reissues to keep the competition for $ against the bandai chunky munky releases - so that competition will naturally result in the need to keep milking. There is also the possibility that price might drop: Maybe one day bandai might decide to make a perfect grade 1/48 valkyrie of thier own (complete with shoulder light leds ) which is better(imagine super posability with crouching poses and everything, but with very high detail too), marketed more agressively, and cheaper (you assemble it yourself?) than yamato 1/48. Who knows? I just hope they don't stop making macross toys and that maybe we see more mecha other than VF1. (perhaps they should start release toys that you assemble yourself: buy a destroid leg set, then buy the bits that make up the destroid you wish to make?)
-
The posability of those looks really good at least. (maybe the light weight increases the chance they won't topple over) I will end up buying the whole lot eventually since I am a BBC fan. Hopefully they won't break like some toynami or a banpresto. I can bear with an expensive toy, so long as it holds! (in fact I would pay full price for the alpha and beta toynamis had they proven sturdy) I would be very interested to see if they bring out the motoslave. A powered suit riding in a transformable powered suit doubling as a bike: I always thought that would have been a cool toy to have as kid.

Miyatake Design Works Coming At last!

Whatever the dimensions, I hope it will live up to the standards of the 1/48 in attention to detail. (or maybe surpass it) I loved the fast packs. Hopefully no fragile pieces. Wonder how heavy the fast pack drone thingy will be and how the wieght will affect it? (assuming one will get made? Those things are heavy.) Then add possible GBP fat suit. I hope this thing is light (no saggy floppy limbs like diecast legs of the yf21 FP) but strong. (more like what the 1/48 or vf11bFP are - 1/48 are not delicate if you are careful) Posability and articulation is my main concern. I don't like statues that will just stand there. Or toys that fall apart when you try to hold them. (witness the loose backpack of the yf21fp in battroid mode ) I hope it includes a pilot and missiles. I'm just glad it will be perfect transformable.

I think post macross 7 things are going to get more ghostbuster-ish. I wish it was just guns, explosions, gory death scenes, robots and music. What I think they should do is assume the events of macross 7 never happened and start again (like with the superman movie or even the batman begins movie which starts again to repair the damage the later batman movies did) and see how they go.. It could be risky, but think of it this way: they already stole the music from macross II and assumed the events never happened then, (and now we won't see toys made ) so why not do it again this time (say macross 7 never happened) until they get it right and everyone likes it? Everyone will be happy. Perhaps even make an alternate universe macross like they do with gundam? heh VF-1 after getting remade would then suit the advance from the vf-0 and look more natural.

Max is still da best: -Beat milia 3 times while perving. (there is no excuse since in the arcade they had equal sized valks) -Was not at any point worried about death unlike hikaru who was scared poo of kamjin in the battroid vs glaug fight on the hull of a ship in space. Note the sweat on his face. A pilot in complete control should keep his cool like max -He didn't lose focus in any situation unlike roy who died from a meltradi grunt. Unlike shin there was no 'learning curve' of failures before getting better through experience and making mistkes like normal people. Max is a genius! -Max = the Amuro Ray of the macross universe. Does not matter what limits of the technology, he will make the most of what he's been given. Roy and Hikaru had a slightly better machine in the tv series. (the head laser and visor) He survives everything. Maybe one day he will die protecting someone by going on a suicide mission with very high chance of failure. But guess what? Max is also very lucky. Number 7 seems to pop up alot. Macross 7, 7 daughters, 7 days in a week etc -Glasses don't mean he's a weak nerd. He fights very well in the resturant. What he lacks in brute strength he makes up for in speed, agility, keen senses, and intellect. He will push himself to the edge and even modified the gunpod so that it could be used as an arm cannon. I think success in 1-to1 dofights are the best measure of a pilots skill since it means there are no distractions like stray fire or SDF-1 main gun being fired at you by accident or Big bird humans frying you from behind or other such nonsense to get in the way. This is why I was disapointed that roy didn't finally get to overcome his teacher. I wanted to see him pull off an interesting move like shin that the his teacher might not have been prepared for. As for Guld vs Isamu: yf21 was a better machine which is why Guld said that isamu has less chance of beating it. (moving at the speed of thought gave guld the edge) The ghost, having no pilot, could probably pull off moves that would kill a pilot giving it the greater speed, so it makes sense that Guld would stand better chance with his machine. If both pilots had not spent all thier effort fighting against each other(wasted ammo) and had Myung not been held captive, they could have both double teamed the ghost and lived. It was a team effort. Isamu still had to fight the sdf1 and guld had the ghost. Isamu is probably better than guld overall and tried much harder due to his reckless attitude and willingness to break the limits. But that doesn't mean Guld's skills can't be developed and sharpened more with time. I think like with the street fighter characters of Ryu and Ken, they were both destined to challenge each other and through the competition raise each other's limits to make them both get better than what they were before. ...Then as they reached a new level and raised a new bar for themselves, they would have the needed skills at fighting sharon and the hacked ghost drone. (maybe the love triangle was a blessing in disguise, without it, the world might not have been saved and Sharon's hypnotic spell would have everyone under her control? The "recklessness/rule breaking" was a good thing in this case.) Akthough robots can think and react faster, humans can adapt to changing situations and come up with new ways to cope. Notice that the one weakness of a computer is that it cannot truly "create" its own original music? I think that was why Guld defeated the ghost and isamu defeated sharon because they could think for themselves and break that hypnosis and ignore the rules that was being brainwashed into thier minds. And the tactics that they thought up in real time in changing situations allowed them to win. An important thing to remember though is that just because you have experience fighting weak enemies who are way worse than you in skill does not mean you are getting better. (in fact this can only make you more complacent. True skill is always surrounding yourself with people at your same level of skill or better and then challenging them to make yourself the top dog. Isamu was bored where he was formally because all the people were way worse than him meaning there was no challenge or excitement. It wasn't until guld that he was sweating his ass off. This is why I say 1-to-1 dogfights are better measure of skill than "total number of enemy kills" since inexperienced cannon fodder enemies poses no threat and you can just rack up heaps of points with little risk. (which is what I suspect might have happened with roy which cost him his life due to having such a relaxed attitude) As for the Qrau being a bigger target: no excuse since the speed of the machine is amazing (when it first made its debut, note how the Qrau could fly rings around the VF1s and Roy's surprised expression at the sheer speed of the thing on first sight?). There is also the fact that it can hold more micromissiles. Things which pretty much spell certain death for those victims who can't dodge between them when released all at once on a single target. But max managed to fly through these. So milia, having a faster machine (well for space at least) can't fall back on that excuse. Speed = means you can outmanuever fire easier and strafe like mad. Max used his brains and led her to an enclosed space with lots of buildings and obstacles which would pose a threat to a bigger machine, which gave him the advantage. (bringing me back to my earlier point about intelligence vs brute strength in combat) One thing I wish would happen is if they introduced the bits more in combat. There were little support drones in macross II. If you combine these with the BDI and BCS you will have one killer machine. What I propose is a 2 seater fighter with both pilots hooked into brainwave controller, and one would direct the bits and the other would pilot. This would have helped greatly against the protodevlin whose soldiers seemed to have superior firepower in mac7. Gubaba could pilot using the BCS (don't laugh) while mylene could concentrate on singing.

http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/m3/variableglaug.htm ^ Would love both a un spacy version and zentradi version. And then they can easily make the neo glaug which is very similar. That's three unique-looking but similar mecha forcing people to buy each one since it is more than just head difference and the variants stand out from another more. The reason I like the variable glaug is because its gerwalk mode look natural. (I've never really been a huge fan of gerwalk mode to be honest) The arms are in front (like a kangaroo) rather than at the sides as if it were designed for it. And the fighter and battroid looks unique enough from the typical Un spacy design. Then after that they should make the 1/60 vf11 and release the gbp armor for it: heh I like the bigger gunpod that comes with it. I've alwas wanted a toy vf11 full armor. Come on yamato, you know you want to make this.. Obviously a vf11 is totally naked without it.

Cool, thanks just what I needed. VF11 and yf21 would be nice too. Any other markings for fast packs and stuff?

I can see lots of uses for this in RPG though. Imagine telling the shopkeeper the items you need instead of selecting them from menus? The shopkeeper might ask what items you have for trade and you just read out the type of item and the number of them you wish to sell instead of using menus. In a FPS you can talk to your bot team mates to stay here and stuff without having to push buttons leaving you free to do other things with your hands. In the days of ultima you had to actually type text out to perform lots of functions and even when you talked to npcs you had to type in what you wanted to say. (nowadays it's menus with selection of topics to usein a conversation. This is a dumbed down version of the use of keywords that you typed out to get the information from npcs since it takes the guess work out of what to talk about, but its advantage is the convenience of getting things done quickly) Voice might make it easier and more user friendly for newbie people who can't stand that type of complicated interface. (a game that is wholly controlled by nothing more than voice might be one extreme example) In Knights of The Old Republic 10 you might tell a chewbacca-like wookie NPC to bash a c3p0-like droid in the head to shut him up. No need to do everything on your own. So in a rpg world you can still control yourself but chat to the people to order them around, get information from them, or trade stuff instead of menus and button combinations which might take up space and time as well as use more effort.

I like the new tv series because it is has a dark look to it but has humor. I think the only reason people like the old tv series was out of nostalgia. But the fighting and action is not as good. If the movie is more like the newer tv series in tone I would see it. Shredder actually looks menacing in the new tv series. (kinda like "Big Trouble in Little China" scariness. )

Excellent so when's the 3D CG Macross tv series remake coming out? I imagine dogfights on the level of zero with the celshaded look of Appleseed but on the scale of a epic star wars movie. If he can reduce costs this might mean more Macross Zero like stuff. jk 3d imo is better to use for static objects like spaceships and mecha (watch the rotation of the camera sweeps in appleseed - beautiful, MUCH better than a crap "flat 2d landscape with the pan across a static drawing" technique so common in anime) while characters are better as hand drawn animation. (because the "way" something moves gives it's own character - see shrek or toy story for examples. Also 3d character models are in danger of looking lifeless. see the "wooden acting" in Final Fantasy: the spirits within. Barely any emotions on the faces!) When doing a dramatice rotation shot of two mechas fighting (remember the max and milia battles in Macross?) having them 3d would help. Macross plus also used cg well in the virtual reality vision in the last episode when guld and dyson were fighting in the city. That stuff hand drawn would have taken far more effort to do. (basically anything with a rotation of camera simulataneously as machines are fighting against each other would benefit) So what I want to see is a massive scale macross battle scene like that what you see in a typical star wars or indpendance day. Millions of little zentradi mecha fighting against the human race in realtime with detail-infested valkyries that look photorealistic and move realistically. Sort of like in the ending of macross II where everyship was used in a mass attack. So long as effects don't stick out like a sore thumb (macross Zero episode 1 which shows a hand-drawn anti-un mech instead of a cg one) I'm all for it.

Emilia, lucy, Ishtar and Sylvie would all make great centrefolds. Although I liked those cannon fodder women pilots in V Gundam the best. That's what Max's daughters should grow up like. Form up as a battroid assasination team and kick ass like milia in her early days. But be not afraid to show off and bare breasts in at least one scene like lucy. See that's the part of the distraction in ovecoming the any rogue zentradi. Distract, then kill.

Were there any discernable differences in each reissue to tell them apart or are they identical? I hope to see more destroids and maybe in future the variable glaug. (love that thing)
-
I have one of these. The strike roy pictured in the first post. They look kind of chunky and have limited posability and articulation. Plus they don't transform. Reminds me of the battroid models I use to buy in the 80s but now in a toy form. I would rather use my money getting the banprestos: -can tranform -better posability (accept for hips which can't rotate) -looks better proportioned Only downside is they are not as sturdy as these pvc toys. And shoulder limbs need tightening with some nail polish or blutack. I wish some company made high quality versions of these..

Yeah does anyone have a good stickered up one to show? I haven't applied any stickers to the vf19 but what I did for the yf21 was just watched the entire ova and whenever the plane came onscreen I paused it for any sign of markings that should be there and applied the ones in the show which came closest to what was on the stickersheet. Took ages. Doesn't seem to be much markings on any of the planes in the anime.

Yeah but they reissued the mac+ vf-11 FP didn't they? So someone must be wanting more? My guess is they will milk whatever they can from the old toys (if people are genuinely buying them, then after a long time when they can't sell them anymore: finally start on 1/60. But say if news got out about a future 1/60 line of mac+ toys, that might change a person's mind about buying another 1/72 and affect thier behaviour, know what I mean? Goal being: to make them buy everything in every scale - spacing releases being the key ) ..though, personally I would not care about a yf-19 FP version in 1/72 if I knew for sure we'd get a 1/60 version in the future. Sucks not knowing when and what is going to come out. I was expecting new releases to just be things like a new paint scheme for the konig or a green qrau. news comes out suddenly.. I was going to spend all my money on boxes of gashapons or another VB6 monster but now I at least know what to save for. Really looking forward to seeing a whole line of perfect transformation Zero toys. (hope we see Anti-UN fighters too!)

Scupuda!! *impersonates excited photographer in dyrl* Been away from the forums for a while.. and knowing that this will be out is great news. I wonder if it will be as detailed as the 1/48 vf1 releases though? What about armor, will they design this in anticipation for a possible future gbp for the vf0? What about a pilot? If they were willing to upscale this, how about a 1/60 macross plus line? (I get the feeling that if they were to do this it would compete with sales of thier existing 1/72 releases reissues though - are people still buying these?) The only thing I didn't like about the 1/48 vf1 were the loose wrists of the chicken hands so I will be glad the hands will be more sturdy to at least take the weight of the gunpod. And I also didn't like the 1/48's feet where the big circle thing splits in half rather than looking like the circle thing is housed deep inside/within the leg instead of part of the feet itself. Please do not make us use stickers. Print the details on. It makes a huge difference. (my macross plus stickers are starting to come off now) Who knows, after they are done with the vf0 maybe we will see the 1/60 monster (the one in macross zero with claws)

Bandai should just reissue the blue vf19 blazer imo. I'm new to getting mac 7 toys and I want to buy that. I like the vf17s apart from the fact that you can't bend its knees backwards in batroid mode. Thanks for voicing your opinion on these boots I was tempted to get them. They don't look too bad in the pics though.

Survey: Ten Worst Comic Book/Superhero Movies
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Guyver Looking forward to the fantastic four, batman, superman and Battle Angel Alita movies. Hulk I actually liked. The fx were much more bearable than spiderman 1 but the ending was really silly. -
I know you think that. But then why do stereotypes even exist then? For example somebody mentions only the 'japanese' men are this way or that way? (how do we know that story is even real? If it is I'd be scared.) Or how only certain geeks (99% of MW I've been told) hang out on X-type forums and measure themselves by thier collection, because they don't meet women? I don't think that is true. But its a good experiment to hear this, because if the poster who wrote it, is a regular on the board and thinks it, there is a 99% chance they might be one.. Or that people talking about porn collections and trading, and women, are somehow socially inept? (as if couples don't talk about it and watch porn together themselves ) People will generalise because there might be some truth to it despite a lot of it being bullshit. The pedophile thread about the cops profiling star trek nerds as being suspects is quite scary imo. They also mention left handed people are doomed. More generalisations about the community. As a reaction I think parents will generalise too to stay on the safe side (which they have a right to) because the ariticle is warning that anyone with a toy collection will be seen as a possible threat. The cops believe the old "offering the kid candy to get in the car" trick doesn't work so now the pedo might be using new tricks with toys. But you can neither be angry at this or insulted because if it is true, they are just trying to do thier job of catching offenders. But more than saying people with "toy collections are pedophile suspects" one other thing about that article that worries me is it might be used to actually justify child porn: (it's very subtle but read this snippet from that article) It almost gives the impression that child porn reduces crime since they've tried to point out that people looking at the child porn are less likely to become a pedophile and do a real act if they've viewed kiddy porn.. ignoring the warning sign that people are even viewing it online in the first place and that the people in the porn are victims. Could this be used as justification to try to legalise child porn in the future? That's the scary thing.. In future they might say "in order to reduce pedophiles taking innocent children as victims we should just legalise child porn". You'll see they are slowly trying to force kids to grow up quickly, so I can see real pedophiles using this as justification that the "child wanted it", and twisting it around saying children have rights of thier own seperate from the parent which we need to defend. You may think I'm crazy for saying it but there actually may be a hidden agenda here. They will then use science fiction fans' "general wierdness" as the scapegoats by linking them with pedophiles, and listen to what the psycologist says. The writer of the article might even be a pedophile. So, just as they've tried associating violent videogames with school shootings (we all know this is BS and VG are the new scapegoat in the mainstream media, criminals can get away from taking the blame by saying the game influenced them as an excuse) when it is more likely the unsafe mind-altering drugs the kids are prescribed which affect thier behaviour, then...similarly they'll need a scapegoat like trek nerds or star wars fans to be blamed for criminal behaviour and people will start to believe it if they can repeat it enough times until people buy it. Look if there was an "ignore poster" function on the board it would be a boring place. People are entertained that's why they keep coming back.

Maybe the chunky armor has little springs undereath so it can eject just like the show? Press the lil button on its body to eject. That'd be a fun gimmick. Yeah but anything is better than nothing. It's like the special olympics..
