YES! a metal one would make it so i don't have to worry so much. i take great care of valks and keep the handling to a minimum but this part still freaks me out, i'm always worried about snapping it if i want to remove/attach the FPs. i don't know anyone here who feels comfortable taking a set of FPs on and off their valk....not one. kensei, seriously dude, whens the last time you had to take a set of FP's off one of your valks? probably never considering you got(my guess) 6 of each, 3 w/FP in each mode, 3 w/o FP in each mode. so you don't really run the risk of snapping it like the rest of us poor folk.

it depends... 1/60: completist. they're cheap enough(excluding 0 and 19) that i can own one of each varient and do some customs for the ones yamato skipped on. i've stickered and panel lined a couple of them but most of them are crispy in their boxes. the only ones i display right now are the ones yamato hasn't made in 1/48 scale yet such as the VE, VT, 1D. go 1/60's! 1/48: recovering completist. they're just too expensive that i feel no need to own them all. basically i stick with the TV and non canon valks. to me, the DYRL scheme while cool, isn't worth it since i can just buy a bunch of cheapy 1S roys any time i want then paint them accordingly. who cares if they're original or not, its a simple repaint a blind man could do. i can't do that with the TV and non-canon valks(full repaints) so to me they're far more cool/unique/collectible/desirable. i've stickered one valk(too lazy) and panel lined one valk(got rid of it) but otherwise most sit naked on my display shelf. i pretty much play/display all my toys at one point or another, i mean whats the point of buying them if you aren't going to play with them?

HERESY! Thou speakest treason! An iconoclasm most foul, sir! 421513 haha, i'm just saying how many different versions of the VF-1 do we really need? what if they made the vf-0? VF-19S? shoot the even VF-11B would be cooler than yet another VF-1, but thats just me. now thats not to say i wouldn't buy it if they made it(i'm a sucker for this stuff), but it would really depend on the price, not to mention cost of shipping, and i'd also want some kind of guarantee that it won't come broken because i damn sure don't want to pay to ship it back to HK...ouch!

these look pretty sweet just to mess around with for $20. i can't wait to have a dog...errrr crash fight with my friends.

whats with the cheapy stickers? the least you could do is cut them better so i don't have to. and please for the love of god tampo print the UN SPACY on the gunpod. this is my one and only wish. i know it seems ridiculous but the sticker turns the gunpod into an eyesore.

but you do. you have to remove the heatshield/canopy depending on the mode. take a look at it again, the heatshield and canopy designs are similar to 1/60s. you can't leave the canopy on and have it in battroid or the chest plate doesn't lock down. you can't leave the heatshield on and have it in fighter mode since it looks stupid...especially with the raised skull emblem. i know i sound like a broken record here but the reason why i'm so unhappy about the $20 price tag is simply the fact that i can get a 1/55 for $20 more. think about it, the 1/55 is far superior in every way compared to this thing, its bigger, better, more durable, bascially more bang for your buck. so how is this thing not a rip off? how can anyone justify a $20 price tag? *shrug* 421912 Your comparing 2 very different scales and products. The way I see it, $20 either buys you the 1/100 toynami toy, or the 1/100 bandai/imai swap transformation variable kit. The whole review is basically going about talking about what the $20 is getting you. For $20 I don't think anyones expecting a 1/55 or 1/48(which for some reason everyone is comparing this to, come to think of it, I don't think anyone dared compared the banpresto to those 2). And where as some of you make it a point to compare it to the 1/48 or 1/55, why is there no mention of the old takatoku/bandai 1/100 toy from the mid80's? Same scale, and all. Toynami's got more articulation than that thing, the only thing that the old taka/bandai 1/100 has over the Toynami is the retractable landing gear, not like they were anything to write home about in regards to aesthetics. And on THAT one, the canopy/heatshield were the samepiece...in fact...PAINTED even. The canopy WAS the heatshield on those ones. Me, I've always wanted something small and those model kits fit the bill except all models break in my hands. That is why I want the toynami and don't really think its a rip off. For $20, I want something I know will not break in my hands, not something that I have to build, paint, and assemble myself only to watch it crumble. (This is my experience I manhandle all my toys and models, and my models break, my toys do not). 421937 i wasn't really comparing it a 1/55 other than what $20 more dollars would get you, thats was really the only point i was trying to make. if i had a choice between owning 2 of these to 1 chunky, i'd take the chunky, thats my choice, for some they may choose to go the other way. don't get it mixed up, i'm not swearing these off, i still somewhat like the 1/100 for what is it(outside of a handful of gripes i can list on one hand), its just for the price i was expecting more/better. the reason why i(i can't speak for anyone else) didn't mention the older 1/100 scale toys/models is i simply don't own any of them to draw a comparison too. perhaps that would change my opinion a bit, who knows? but the long and short of it is, if ones expectations are too high, they'll be disappointed in these which is the case for me.

when i used the phrase "toynami supporter", it was for a lack of better words, sorry jenius. but you do. you have to remove the heatshield/canopy depending on the mode. take a look at it again, the heatshield and canopy designs are similar to 1/60s. you can't leave the canopy on and have it in battroid or the chest plate doesn't lock down. you can't leave the heatshield on and have it in fighter mode since it looks stupid...especially with the raised skull emblem. i know i sound like a broken record here but the reason why i'm so unhappy about the $20 price tag is simply the fact that i can get a 1/55 for $20 more. think about it, the 1/55 is far superior in every way compared to this thing, its bigger, better, more durable, bascially more bang for your buck. so how is this thing not a rip off? how can anyone justify a $20 price tag? *shrug*

woowee! finally got a chance to read the entire thing, nice review. i think you're being a little too generous towards toynami but thats just me. one incorrect detail in your review, you stated that these are perfect transformation(Charm & Collectibility) which they clearly aren't. you might want to change that before people start thinking its a mini 1/48.

that looks freakin awesome! i really like it alot, especially the swivel thigh mod, it makes such a huge difference in the toy. keep them customs coming!
-
i hope they make it but seeing as they can't release multiple varients, i doubt it. i hope i'm wrong but i doubt it. if they do make it, i hope it'll be bigger than the 1/3000 scale. it doesn't have to be the size of my house or anything but big enough that beats out the matchbox/takatoku versions.
-
uhmmm... not yet.... nope... But, uhm, heyyyyyyy, do you think... uhm... yamato will release non-canon repaints of the yf-19? 421547 why not? people would probably buy it. they got the beige version, the blue version, and possibly a low-viz version and anything else they can come up with. me, i'd buy the biege and LV version, no hestiation. and i may be sucked into buying the video game version because i like crack.

jenius has been a toynami supporter for a while now so if i read a review about a toynami product from him, i know he's going to find more good things to say than bad. i on the otherhand, dislike toynami so if i were to write a review, i'll find more bad things to say than good. i try to read each review knowing that it mostly peoples opinions. everyone has their own standards of whats acceptable when it comes to toys so you gotta decide what is fact and what is fiction. fact: the shoulders are kind of big. fiction: this thing sucks more than a $2 hooker.

have you tried the stuff that bryan(gunsandcasca) got? made by chameleon products? he was raving about it not too long ago. i orded the gel(supposedly better than liquid) but i haven't had a chance to test it out yet...yeah yeah yeah. he posted some pics and it looked like it did a fairly nice job but then again, he tried to strip the paint off a DYRL valk which simply has too much paint on it. if you're going to do customs, i suggest getting the 1J hikaru's as they have less paint to remove overall.

whats the point of making a VF-1 if it doesn't transform? if i wanted something that large in fighter mode, i'd pick something more unique/cooler than the vf-1. keep in mind, doyusha tried to make small scale non-trans valks and they couldn't get rid of them. granted they were a bit overpriced at $35 a pop but still.

honestly, i can sit here and bash the toy all day but until you actually hold one and play with it yourself, you won't know why it sucks. don't get me wrong, if i spent $5 on this thing i wouldn't be complaining at all but i paid $25 plus shipping and thats too much for what this is/isn't. you know how we recently had a poll on "Which form do you care about most in development of a new toy"? well toynami skipped that question altogether, instead they asked themselves, how can we make every mode the worst, then released this work of art.

i got mine today....now i know why exo was so pissed off about these things. damn you toynami! you got me once with the MPC, you got me twice with alpha, now a third time with this little POS. i was really excited about having some 1/100 valks but these are seriously weak...i mean i just can't believe how shitty these things really are. its just unbelievable how a company can continuely put out a shitty product and stay in business. most companies get better over time, but toynami is just the opposite and progressively gets worse. oh wellz, like i said before, i'll end up paying MSRP for the first one and wait to pick up the rest on the discount rack. there no reason on gods green earth why anyone in their right mind should pay $20 for these things. and as far as the FP kits that are being sold seperately(whack!), just judging from the rest of the accessories, they damn sure can't be worth more than $2.
-
the thing is to work it out so your hobby doesn't cost you anything. basically sell whenever its profitable, wait, buy another and try to make your hobby free as possible. if you keep up with this(and you're somewhat lucky), you'll get most of your money back and your hobby will be somewhat free. i do with yammies, i do it with lego, i do it with skateboarding....now all i have to do is work it out so it works on women.
-
since this is about mospeada.... honestly, i think toynami is having the same problem with the beta link up as yamato was having with the 1/60 FP kits(remember those?). much like yamato, toynami didn't plan ahead as to how they were going to make the beta attach to the already existing/released alpha. like everyone keeps saying, theres no logical way to attach the beta to the alpha and expect it to hold together so whats the point(outside of just satisfying fans)of toynami continuing with the project? maybe if toynami had half a brain between them, they'll follow suit with yamato and release a large scale alpha with the beta mind. but until then, i'm going continue to wish for it but i'm certainly not going to hold my breath.

the one thing i really want tampo printed on every valk is the UN SPACY on the gunpod.....how hard can this be? i can live without it on the legs but no matter how you slice it, the sticker on the gunpod looks something awful. the gunpod is black and when the sticker is applied its opaque which makes it look bootleg as hell.
-
balance between all modes. whats the point of concentrating on 1 mode only to let the other 2 suffer? personally, i like gerwalk mode the best, theres just something very appealing about seeing both halves of the mecha at once.
-
i got the super stealth, its nice and all but how many VF-1's do you have?, not just 1/48's but all together? as opposed to VF-0's? therefore, i'd go for the VF-0.
-
I would normally agree with you, but the StarScream looks great IMHO 419784 i was j/j dude, the SS looks friggin awesome. i'd pick it up but i know if i get the SS, thundercracker and the rest of them aren't far behind. the last thing i need is to start another collection of toys i don't need. i'll be getting the vf-0s, vf-0a, yf-19, and vf-1AB all for the low low price of $700 or so.

It just would mean they have access to a bigger overall market. More people buying them will accelerate profits as a larger audience has access to them. If they can't deal directly with us, it adds an extra barrier for someone to find the toys. Why do you think the first thing a newbie on the forum says is: "where do I go to buy valks from?" They want to know where the best place to get these from is as they are not within reach. On top of that you got robotech fans unable to know what yamato toys even are because they can't even speak about other products, so there is no community to help each other out. How would that affect price? The same way there are two different prices for scopedog and megazone 23 toys. As for the quality of the toys: who ever questioned that they were not high end quality toys? (besides the diecast nazis and those who expect chunky munky levels of robustness? ) 419561 What were the 2 different prices for both of those toys if I may ask... I honestly dont know since I dont have either. I'm just going by other toys I have bought and the fact that I can't go in and buy these are TRU or Walmart means I have to get them shipped anyway. 419564 i agree. as much as i wish that yamato toys would be sold in the US, its not like we'd see them sold everywhere to begin with. buyers decide what merchandise gets sold in their stores, whether its a big store like TRU or a small one like KBtoys. if the buyer for XYZ company doesn't think the item will sell, thats the end of it. theres only 3 plus sides i can think of having them here in the US, 1. cheaper shipping, i think we can all agree that overseas shipping is killing us. 2. the possibilty of finding them at a discount/sale/clearance, though you'd still have to go to a anime/comic/hobby store, theres still hope. 3. haggling, i'm not one to really do this but its far easier to try to get a deal on something thats being sold throughout the US, as opposed to something thats strictly an import item.

at the rate these things are being pumped out, the question should be which of these are you NOT getting for christmas. i'll be picking up anything thats macross, transformers is for losers.

fight the power! its saved me from 5...you forgot the 1S max....man i miss that valk. i was wondering when i'd see that on ebay. no matter, you should get a pretty penny for it, not everybody knows of the upcoming release. hehehe
