really? then how is it that they retail for $80-$90 in japan? the guys with B&M shops in HK charge the true MSRP. every consumer in HK pays on average $80-$90 retail per valk. sellers with wholesale accounts pay on average of $40-$45 per valk wholesale those who have to go through distributors pay on the average of $60-$70 per valk discounted. that $120 price tag is considered the "norm" here(in US). we've all gotten so use to seeing it, we forget how cheap these toys really are. theres not a single seller out there thats buying these for $120 or even $80....they're all paying a lot less than we think, and charging us a whole lot more, plain and simple. no seller will ever admit this outright but i want them to know, that i know, they know i know.

the only problem is....no destroids. how tall is a 1/48 in battroid mode? i'm thinking i could get one of those 12" action figures and use some of the accessories for a custom valk....Schwarzenegger steez! if i can find a mini-leather jacket like he wore in terminator, that would really make the valk official! finding the sunglasses might be tough though......hehehe. i think they make 12" kiss dolls too. maybe a gene simmons valk would be cool too? KISS ROCKS!
-
Yeah, that wouldn't create any drag or anything... It would be so sleek, so eligant... can't a brotha dream? and BTW, it would only be used in battroid mode. that way i could have my own arnold swarznegger(sp?) version valk.
-
thats actually not bad idea....kind of like a laser sight. you look, you shoot, you hit the target. i don't see the big deal of making a custom valk that isn't canon? i think i'm gonna try to make one in a gunpod....that would be too friggin even a shoulder mounted laser sight would be kind of neat. now if someone were to make a side mounted chain gun for a valk that would totally be the freshest crap out!

well i found the neodymium magnets at a pretty reasonable price here. CLICK ME about $10 with shipping for 25 of them suckers. now to the hard part... has anyone figured out a way to open the leg piece on a 1/48 without breaking it? any help would be appreciated. *added* nevermind dudes. with the assistance of Gary Coleman and David Hasselhoff i used the search function. "WE DO IT" i forgot who posted that but that was probably the funniest thing i've seen here. customizing underway should be done in no time.
-
yeah sure why not? sounds like it would be cool IMO. whatevs go to it and make sure to post some pics when you finish it.
-
oh dude, i know its a simple fix but i don't like having to cut into my valks. and as you said i shouldn't have to....whatevs i'll live...i haven't killed myself yet over it.

its not that yamato products actually cost that much, thats just how much everyones is selling them for. simply put, the foreign market sets their prices based on what we americans are paying. basically overseas sellers and US sellers are all in cohoots(sp?) with one another and charge as much as they can for these. how is it that these valks retail for $80-$90 yet guys in HK are charging us $120? mind you, they also have wholesale accounts, so its not like their paying retail and re-selling them. better yet, they can find macross stuff on clearance for less than wholesale and they still charge $120 for a $40 valk. i mean, why charge less when they know they can make more? and why make enemies with US sellers? instead keep the prices high and everyone makes more money. my point is that yamato prices are actually really reasonable, its the sellers who are gouging us. if we all stopped buying all macross products for the next year, retailers/etailers in the US and overseas will drop their prices to a reasonable amount, but until then, we will continue to pay inflated prices. i can't wait to get flamed for this one but let me say, if i had an account with yamato, i would hook up everyone here at wholesale prices. no gouging, no inflated prices, no hidden fees of any kind. we'd all pay the same amount and we'd all be happy campers. sorry if that sounds communist, but thats how i operate, i'm not out to make a buck off anyone here....we ain't having fun unless we're all getting some. p.s. i have tripod display stands at the wholesale prices, if anyone interested in not paying $21 each, hit me up.

yup, i noticed that too but i didn't bother to mention it since i've bitched enough about the millia....and i don't need any more grease. i'm the one dude who voted for a refund if it didn't cost so much to ship it in the first place.....its an MPC i tell you. re-issues?, not likely. i don't think they made too many of these to begin with so why the heck would they go through the trouble to reissue them? and besides(according to someones math) its not like they'll do something about the arm armor(my biggest gripe).

well i'm glad its being re-broadcasted. i don't see the big deal? if anything you macross/robotech horders will make a bundle if new fans enter the market...hello $100 for a matchbox regult. also they'll be some old timers with deep pockets so watch out....the competition on ebay for toys will be fierce. i'm a robotech fan cause thats what i grew up watching. i watched DYRL and mac+ but i have yet to watch the original macross series. i guess i'm a RT loser right? -
is that minmay giving me the finger? why that no good..... and yes, clearly matchbox was ahead of its time in comparison to toynami.
-
i know no one is happy with the floppy/sagging arms in fighter mode for the 1/48's...not so much w/o the FP's, but w/FPs, some stay in position, some don't. well i just scored these tiny, really really strong ass magnets today so it got me thinking....toynami did the magnet thing with the MPC's(not that it worked with the MPC's since none of them were lined up correctly LOL). anyhow, the sagging arms have been bothering the heck out of me so i'm gonna give this a go. it should work out nicely and if so i'll try and track down the magnets and get them wholesale to offer here. well thats it, i'll keep you guys posted in the next couple of days to see if it works out. if anyone else found a solution for this, please post as i would prefer not to dismantle my valk unless i absolutely have to.
-
ditto, but i the matchbox/exo releases are kind of crappy. i still have an officers pod but its been in storage as it looks disgraceful next to all my yammies.
-
thats the nastiest! that guys legs was off the meat hook...literally....ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! good thing i live in the city...there really isn't many if any spiders in manhattan.
-
same here, that movie freaked me the f-out. i grew up in brooklyn with mice, rats and cockaroaches so i never even saw a spider til i was like 10 years old(we moved to the sticks). i got bit by a wolf spider when i was younger...boy did that suck. i threw on my dads shoes(which were outside) to get the mail all of the sudden OUCH! WTF! homeboy bit my foot and took off like the wind. it hurt like a mofo for a while and started to swell...not too bad though, more of like i had one giant hive screaming in pain. from then on i never felt the same way about spiders. i always thought they were cool...you know cause of spiderman and stuff. but since then i STOMP them to death. i actually had a family of wolf spiders living in the attic and eventually made their way into my bedroom....dude i had 20 palmed sized spiders running around my room at one point. we called the exterminator but i didn't sleep for weeks after that. til today i'll have an ocassional nightmare about that crap. these spiders need to be wiped off the face of the earth....imagine if those f-ers jumped at your eye!.....i'd be screaming like little bee-otch.

What do you use to remove the paint on the 1/48s
do not disturb replied to Godzilla's topic in The Workshop!
30 min? and hour? if you're doing it correctly, it shouldn't take more than 15-20 seconds. be sure to rub the painted piece on the cloth DO NOT rub the cloth on the painted piece or you'll be sitting there forever! also a napkin won't cut it....i've tried that and it just tears into pieces. take a old cotton t-shirt and use that. you can fit it into the heatshield and slide it back and forth with enough pressure to remove the paint very quickly. either way, whatever works for you i guess but it really should take that long. -
what he said. and what he said. i want more LV'z but i still want some non VF-1 stuff.
-
the millia QC is borderline MPC steez. nuff said as i have said all i can say about this.
-
guess which one i picked? most of you dudes know how i feel about this so i'll just end it there.

do not disturb replied to Godzilla's topic in The Workshop!
Godzilla, you don't have to soak it at all. just put a quarter sized amount on a old cloth or rag and rub the paint piece on the cloth with a little elbow grease and it comes off in 15-20 seconds. either way i'll PM you too in case you don't see this. -
nice review JsArclight, i am not alone. its not so much that the gunpod doesn't stay on, its the principle of paying an arm and leg for a sub-par toy. i don't have a serious problem with the paint job as much as having parts that don't work/fit together. just like the loose ass missiles...why? why can't they make the fix? people can argue, its mass produce, it cost less, it would slow down the releases, then why the heck are we paying just as much for a bad valk as a good valk? if yamato is gonna shaft the buyers with degrading quality in their products and defective parts, their price should reflect it, shouldn't it? if they screwed up and made some crappy parts and want to "pass the buck" to their consumers, the price should be lowered IMHO. how would you feel if you went to buy a car and the dealership knows theres something wrong with it? lets say the sunroof leaks water but they won't fix the problem and still want the same money for the car? is that right? granted a car costs a lot more but getting ripped off for $100 is the same thing as getting ripped off for a $1000....you're still getting ripped off! it doesn't really matter now i guess, i have them sitting there and i'm not stupid enough to return them. why would i? then i'd have to live with the fact i paid more $$$ just because i looked at the damn thing and didn't like it. basically i'm stuck with them for now. i should've opted to just buy the strike armor packs for these guys and throw the TV armor out or sell them at a hefty discount and recoup some of my money. BTW, anyone looking to score some TV armor?

first off, i'd like to thank everyone for showing their maturity and not flaming my butt. seriously though, thanks. well i can't say everything is posted was 100% true but i KNOW the GBP is $15-$20....and thats retail. don't forget, most of vendors have been doing it for a while and more likely paying wholesale prices....some even wait for stuff to go on sale or it hit clearance which generally means they'll be paying even less than wholesale. if they're paying retail, they got a friend who tracks this stuff down and you gotta throw the guy some loot for his troubles...shoot, we ain't having fun unless were all gettin some right? if you got a friend with a shop in HK or something, you think hes paying retail? hes paying wholesale and you're paying wholesale too....plus some extra loot for his troubles. again we all gotta have fun. if they got a family member helping them out, heck you don't have to "grease" a family member, its all love. how much do you think a 1A max goes for now? toy-wave got em for $89....you think this guy paid retail? wholesale? or clearance price? my guess is he paid clearance price. most all retailers got them for $120+ why is that? do you think these people paid retail, wholesale, or clearance price? seeing as they're kind of old now, my guess is they paid clearance price too. but so many of us are willing to shell out $120+ for a 1/48 that retailer wouldn't think of selling it for any less. i mean, why would they cut into their own profits? even if they found them at some flea market in japan for $20, do you honestly think a smart business man would sell it for $40 when they know they could easily get $120? if you found some valks for $20 at some flea market here in the states, how much would you sell them for? $40? $80? or $120? maybe you'll hook up one of your boys but everyone else is gonna pay $120....plain and simple, its your find, so you should reap the benefits. yeah we're all nice guys here but no one here is a total sucker...selling something that goes for $120 for $20? either you gotta be a total retard or the biggest hippie know to man. look, i'm not saying theres anything wrong with peolpe making money....we all gotta eat right? i'm all about the capitalist society folks. what i don't like doing is telling XYZ company/vendor how much i'm willing to pay for something, basically helping them set the highest possible price on new a product. like i said before, why would you show anyone all your cards? would you flash someone your cards in a game of poker because you "think" they aren't looking? yamato is looking whether we want to believe it or not, here and all the other macross/robotech fan sites. its in their best interest to have as much info on their consumers as possible, thats how a smart and successful company is run.

if they fixed the arm armor, it would've gotten a 8 out of 10. i still didn't like how i had to sand down certain parts. i still don't think its cool that they used to different shades of red and blue for the chest plate and airbrake flap. the sloppy paint job is taken care off...i cleaned/touched them up a bit last night on the really bad/noticable spots. oh and i did paint the head lasers(first time i've painted a 1/48) in the metallic dark grey, 3 parts mythril silver and 1 part black, using citadel(warhammer) paints. looks nice! look guys, don't get me wrong, its not like i'm going to throw these out or try and return them or anything. i'm just stating my concerns regarding the new valks in the hopes that yamato reads this and makes some kind of fixes. i for one would like it if they offered a corrected arm armor piece. production costs/convience aside, if you make something wrong, its in your best interest to correct the problem not avoid the issue and continue to offer a crappy piece. some of the better companies will do this kind of thing....though yamato is highly unlikely to do so.....they don't really give 2 shits cause if they did, they would've made the fix from the get go. i'm losing faith in yamato and it will show when they calculate their quarterly earnings. as i said before, i dont think we should be buying anymore yamato products if this kind of inconsistences continues.
