Hey guys. Are there any spoilers in this thread? When I opened it up I quickly hit the "Reply" button. I don't want to see any spoilers and I don't have the will power to not read them 'cause I am super excited about this movie. Someone PM me and let me know if there are any spoilers in the thread... Yeah. Even before the retcon, it always seemed kind of ambiguous on the "continuity" (such as it is). SDF Macross is required to have a frame of reference. IMO, rather than an attempt to create a new continuity it was simply a "let's do this since we now have a bigger budget" without saying the tv series way didnt' happen. In the "fictional DYRL movie" Vrlitwhai did NOT destroy the population of the Earth. The script writers did. A1, you know you wanna live in the M7 Universe and be a Fire Bomber groupie. Ya know what man... M7 is a fictional story, so is DYRL, therefore if ewilen wants to discuss it, he can.

I know what you meant. Should have put a wink. More precisely I'd ask if there IS THERE STILL a DYRL continuity given that it's "just a movie in the movie" thing now. ... Ok dude... lets just pretend we are all listing to that lame-ass Basara sing on the Macross 7 because we all live there... Thats right I want you to imagine that you are living in the M7 universe. * NOW: In the fictional movie DYRL, was the Vrlitwhai Kridanik fleet responsible for the destruction of the earth? I would say, we are left with no other conclusion to draw. *it should be noted that the entire movie within a movie thing was made up 10 years after DYRL came out.

Thanks UN Spacy! The movie looks good... lots of ass kicking. I will be seeing it as well. Kind of bothers me that I am going to be watching an action hero that looks like a sissy next to me though... I like action heros that look slightly tougher. Then again there is a toughness of attitude (example: Gene Hackman) that is hard to see in that trailer, however that actor may have.

They weren't going by Kawamori's direction, they might have had no idea what Kawamori had in mind for the protocluture to be... In fact no where IN M2 was the term "protoculture" used to denote a ancient race. I think the M2 writers knew much less about the original SDF-Macross, DYRL, and the Protoculture than we as fans do. well, fwiw, at least the MII team didnt redefined protoculture as a flower and brought in the Zor/Masters, Invid and stuff.

Don't know about the "active" part, but yes the Grand Cannons still exist (IIRC, there is still one in Brazil, Africa). Active? Most likely no. Heck, they barely had the one in Alaska up and running by SWI. Are you sure about the Brazil thing?... I think that might be a Robotech Uprising thing.

I tend to agree with you on this Pat. What Kawamori has done, time and time again, with his own creations is create new interpretations of the story. I acutally like that... Imagine if Hikaru, Minmay, and Misa had been in M7... If they were any more affiliated with M7 than they already are (mentioned in story telling as a part of M7) I would probably lose my stomach for even SDF-Macross. The whole thing would be ruined for me.

Sounds like someone hangs out at 3D Realms forums some times. Joe Siegler is always locking threads over there and it's usually something along the lines of: "Welcome to Locksville, population - you." ... never heard of it. I don't know where I saw that.

He could have just left it mysterious so IF he had a good idea he could eaily go and revisit it.
