I live in an apartment in Los Angeles, so i'm in a similar situation. Basically as far as fumes go, it's important to get them out of your place. Just having the windows open isn't enough. Also since you're indoors, another thing that's VERY IMPORTANT is a respirator mask. Unless you like poor health. For fumes, I just use a fan facing out the window. I know some people that use a spray booth with a hose sticking out a window that sucks the fumes out as well. My windows are pretty big so the fan works for me, but I still use the respirator when i'm painting. As far as paint types, Acrylic is pretty safe. Enamels and Laquers have more fumes, but if you ventilate and wear your mask it shouldn't be a problem. I'd recommend keeping your fan on longer for those when you're done though, to get out lingering fumes. If you have roommates, you may want to stick with Acrylic or else be prepared for smell complaints. my setup:

I agree that Tamiya chips like nothing else if you don't seal it.. I use Vallejo Matte Varnish sprayed through my airbrush to seal my Tamiyas. It is acrylic too, but when it's cured, it dries pretty hard and thins with regular water. Maybe i'm weird, but I don't like future at all
-
What's your reason for using future between layers? The reason I ask is because future is generally used to seal the paint for washes and such. Is that what you're doing?
-
Me too.. The only reason i'd ever buy a variable model, is.. well.. I wouldn't.. oh wait, I thought of one, if it's the only option available. (i.e., Zeta Gundam, ReGZ Gundam) I haven't seen any variable Macross models that look "right" though.

That kit looks really nice overall. I hope you're going to make it a flight display though, IMO the landing gear is way overscale and too tall and make it look goofy when it's 'parked'.

which 1/16 tank? I'm going to guess one of the Tamiya R/C tanks. They're around $500-700 bucks with the radios.

hi bhop. Thank you for the compliment. But I cant remember what was CMC. I used to post images at gundam.com , starship modelers ,AMA Model Gallery and Galaxy Mech Works . I hope to post more here . My next projects after this one , are a VF0B Gearwalk , and a Pod regult 1/72. Hmm.. CMC was the Cybermodel Competition. I used to do the web part of it... it's dead now though.. I could've sworn you'd entered it before.. maybe I just remember your stuff from gundam.com.. dang, I feel dumb now.. regardless, i'm still loving your SV-51

Hey Fernando.. I was a fan of your work in the CMC days, this is no exception. Looking real good!

Yeah, Battlestar is a good example. I love the original. I bought the dvd boxset when it came out and watched it from start to finish, which was the first time i'd watched it since it first aired. A lot different from when I was 6 or 7 years old.. but anyways, I still like it even though it's cheezy. I also really like the new version even though it's like watching something completely different than what I loved as a kid.

Personally, I like watching a story done in different mediums. It's like, watching an anime and also buying a Manga version of it or something. I'll watch the live action NGE movie. I'll watch the live action Transformer movie. The thing with the live action vs. the animated versions is that you can't go into a live action movie comparing it, or you will be disappointed for sure. I treat it as a separate entity. Worst case, the live action sucks, you still have your original, so how is it 'ruined'? A perfect example, Godzilla. The U.S. version is a waste of film. Does anyone love the original any less?

If those are Thai recasts, i'd stay away from them unless you enjoy pain and suffering.

Here's a tuner company that's doing it. http://www.prototyperacing.com/f20kit.htm

I think it looks cleaner, but hey, it's ok if you like the red. You could always have a body shop do a custom conversion if you get one.

I think the current rear looks better.

You forgot the RX-78-2 Version Ka Gundam, which I think is the best looking version.

Have you guys seen this 1/1 Votoms Scopedog? All metal. I did a search but didn't see anything.. http://www.ironwork.jp/monkey_farm/botoms/botom-top.html

I'm pretty sure. In fact, I just searched for the GT 500 Supra's specs, apparently it's a V8, which makes sense due to the way it sounded. JGTC GT500 Toyota Supra Specs Engine Code: 3UZ-FE Configuration: V8 DOHC 32 valves Displacement: 4,480cc Bore x Stroke: 93 mm x 95 mm Air Restrictor: 29.6mm x 2 Power: 480+ PS @ 7600 rpm Chassis Code: JZA80 Length x Width: 4520mm x 1910mm (178 in x 75.2 in) Weight: over 1100 kg (2425 lb) Wheelbase: 2550mm (100.4 in) Track: F: 1600mm (63 in) R: 1580mm (62.2 in) Transmission: 6-speed sequential Transaxle Clutch: Carbon Triple Plate Suspension: F: Double Wishbone , R: Double Wishbone Brake: F: Ventilated Disc , R: Ventilated Disc Tires: Bridgestone , F: 330/40-R18 , R: 330/40-R18 Wheels: F: 18 x 13J , R: 18 x 13J Engine Tuner – Toyota Technocraft / TRD Here's a pic of some mechanics working on the engine. Yeah, dedicated race cars usually take out anything they won't use for weight saving. One thing I noticed when I was at JGTC that was surprising, we were allowed in the garage area to check out the cars. One of the Supras had the hood off and it was non-turbo. They were still fast as hell though.

I saw one of those here in L.A. once parked in a really ghetto part of K-town. Made me do a double take, not just because it was a Skyline, but because of where it was.
-
Yeah, I know, but technically it is a real racing car. You may laugh because the street version is a low powered car, but the Celica for example, I assume is in the same category. I went to the JGTC last month, and even the Celica was beating up on the Porsches that were in the race too. The Porsche finished last actually.. About Skylines and RWD. I've heard that you can disable the 4WD and make it RWD by just removing one fuse.

So that's where your dislike of Japanese import cars comes from. I'd be bitter too, but don't take it out on the cars. Also, just because you don't like it, doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't or that it's crappy. It's just your opinion that it's crappy. I think most American cars are crappy and ugly, many people think they're the best. This thread has gotten crazy.. heh, heh..

Yeah, I had to shoot some fool the other day cuz he tried to skip out after I beat him. He was just too scared to jump that bridge, plus my 4 nitrous bottles smoked him pretty bad... too bad my floorboard fell out while I was racing though, that kinda sucked... Next time, I'm lettin' Hector hold the money, he's too slow to take off with it.

What kind of polyester putty is that? I use Tamiya, and it's green, not grey, so I assume you're using something different? .. I don't really like the Tamiya putty and wanted to try a different brand.
